Tl:dr; We asked for 2¢ on the streaming dollar. ...They said "Nope, can't afford it." ...As we say in New York: "...Yeah, no."

Time to take a stand. Not just for ourselves, but also for the writers who'll come after us... and who, unless we draw a line in the sand here, will never make enough to establish even middle-income careers.

*The people who, when we proposed that we should have a guarantee of a paid second-draft rewrite on scripts instead of the too-routine demand for multiple "free tweaks", refused to even consider it—but suggested they were willing to do a meeting to educate execs on why screenwriters don't want to work for free. (...DUH.)

KIM JOHNSON held leadership positions in social justice organizations as a teen. She’s now a college administrator who maintains civic engagement throughout the community while also mentoring Black student activists and leaders. This Is My America is her debut novel. It explores racial injustice against innocent Black men who are criminally sentenced and the families left behind to pick up the pieces. She holds degrees from the University of Oregon and the University of Maryland, College Park. Kim lives her best life in Oregon with her husband and two kids.

The Mighty Grand Piton is a short film about a young British girl, Connie, who travels to the Caribbean Island of Saint Lucia for her school holidays with her family. There, she accidentally awakens a giant robot buried under the Twin Piton mountains on the south of the Island. This robot seems compelled to protect Saint Lucia but his origins are mysterious. No one knows where he came from or how long he’s been there. During the many years he’s lain dormant, The Mighty Grand Piton, became nothing more than the stuff of legend.

Today (7/17/16) is the 103rd birthday of Chicago architect Bertrand Goldberg (thanks for the reminder, MAS Context.) Marina City appears in a number of set-in-Chicago movies, but his other buildings don’t get much attention from filmmakers. One notable exception is Stranger Than Fiction, where Goldberg’s River City played a major role (the building also made a brief appearance in Running Scared.)
