What is marriage? Oxford dictionary defines marriage as a, âformal union of a man and a woman, typically as recognised by law, by which they become husband and wife.â They are working on changing it after same-sex marriage has been legitimised legally. In most of the romantic movies they either show life before marriage culminating into one or 20 years later. In my country, if you have to stay with the person you love, you must marry him/her and if your parents are against it, you must stay with a stranger they chose for you. Itâs creepy. Letâs not get astray. What is marriage? Let us speculate.
I dated my husband for one and a half years before marriage. It was a gorgeous period. I wasnât supposed to fall in love with him but the day he left for home, I missed him like crazy. I always thought these things happen in books and movies. On Sundays, I would go to his place and he cooked for me. Nothing special, just a mixture of everything he had at his flat and fruit cocktails. Amazing! I preferred that food than a date at a restaurant. We used to eat on the bed from the same plate. Total bliss. The day I was convinced that I wanted to marry this man was the day I went through his office drawer to get a pen. I found my broken clip, broken pair of spectacles and the first letter I had written to him on a torn piece of paper. He stored them all, safely. He kept all the broken pieces of me.
Letâs scroll to the picture after marriage. We have a maid for cooking. I never cooked before. However, I tried making something special from time to time while heâs lying on the bed watching something on his phone. Thatâs ok, I say to myself. He bought all the vegetables. Like I said, Iâm no sous chef, the taste wouldnât be that of a restaurant but it wasnât bad but you have a critic anyway. We were too lazy to plan anything. Ladies please tell me how irritating it gets when you ask your husband what he wants to do for the weekend and he says whatever you want? Ugh! Once in a blue moon suggest something. In all probability, we will refute that but at least weâll have something to refute. At the end of every fight, the patent dialogue is âwhat do you want?â If we knew we wouldnât be women. Surprise us. Itâs not always the glamorous things that light up our day. Something as little as a hand written note or preserving our broken clips can make us smile. Itâs always the little things for us. Call it motivation but for us women thatâs love. Men shouldnât expect us to say it loud. Doing that destroys the very essence of it. At least Kenny Rogers realized it. âI bought you a rose, on my way home from work; to open the door to a heart that I hurt; and I hope you notice this look in my eyes; cause Iâm gonna make things right; for the rest of your life.â
