His was a smell of fading fire. A charcoal stench, remiss of the warmth so radiant beforehand. Extinguished, spent, useless. Blackwater was a page in the history book of Westeros, and he was not written as the victor. His folly, a belief that numbers certified victory, leading to defeat.
Damnable fool. A larger army does not mean victory. Five hundred men were all that was needed to hold Storm’s End; I have led my army to the depths of the Seven Hells in my arrogance.
Where was the Red Woman now? Where was the Fire God she spoke of? The sound of his men burning, Davos - loyalest of them all, haunted his mind. It bounced from ear to ear, allowing him no rest, no measure of peace.
Fingers gripped the stone table. Digging inwards, crushing flesh with a great rage unseen. The Lannisters, the Tyrells, Renly — they all laughed; they all mocked. He would make them burn.
Movement behind him caught his attention, a fragrance not of flowers, but of immortality; the Red Woman.
❝—— Less than a third of my army remains. Those that did not die in the Wildfire have feld. Tell me - where is your god now? ❞
S i l e n c e . The room was filled with silence – morbid and heavy, much alike what the red priestess had sensed from the army that had come back from their defeat. Bodies had burned in the Blackwater Bay. Those who had not either perished on the land or had the chance to survive – But was surviving really such a luck, Melisandre wondered, when there were yet many great and terrible things to come, holding more importance on a grander scale than any defeat against an army of flesh and blood. For a few long, relentless seconds, the priestess did not make a move, not merely observing the king back from the war, but the s a v i o u r she had seen in him. Then, she took a step forward, and another, her burning eyes never leaving him. He smelled familiar – Like light, and f i r e , and things yet unseen -, as if he had just been born from the ashes and flames he had just fought against. << The Lord of Light is always w a t c h i n g , though I am his eyes and ears. Those were not his fires which burned your men, not his will which set your ships a b l a z e . Yet, leaving out his eyes and ears, his ways might not have reached you in the manner you e x p e c t e d . >> Her tone was cool and serene as she slowly made her way to Stannis’s side, hands joint in a peaceful and collected manner.
<< You are a l i v e, my King, is this not what ought to be your first observation ? >>
Sine Qua Non
Kain hadn’t really intended to linger in this world, but he was curious about this land. Legends of dragons and such had piqued his curiosity, causing him to travel and learn what he could of this world. And then he’d heard rumors of a red priestess. It hadn’t really been his intention to find her, as he was mostly just wandering, but here he was. The night was dark, but the fire was inviting. Fire was always warm and inviting. It consumed, but it was also a source of life, as he well knew.
He paused for a moment to stare at the woman standing near the fire. Perhaps this was the red priestess he had heard of. Her words spilled forth, heard just over the crackle of the fire. Kain stepped forward and his feet carried him close to the fire. He stopped just short of the fire, turning around to look at the woman, his back to the flames. He had no fear of the flames, they would not harm him.
"Is it not also ill-mannered to speak as though issuing a command, and to someone you know not?" He asked. "It is not my place to judge, of course, but I do believe I have a valid point in asking." Well, perhaps he didn’t really, but this woman was interesting. Kain stared at her still, curiosity ablaze in his violet eyes.
"I do not often find myself in the company of others so in tune with fire." He added after a moment of silent consideration. "And even when I do, the company is not usually mortal by any means." Honestly, meetings of this sort were more often when he found himself in the company of other dragons. While Kain was mortal now, he was still a dragon and bore that blood and legacy upon his soul. His other half was usually silent, but the darker side, the immortal of his past, was always with him.
There was something about the stranger which seemed utterly unreal – The poise and manners with which he spoke and held himself were rather transparent as to how he saw himself. Yet, he did not seem quite like a knight – not any of those that were in Westeros and surely none currently under Stannis’s command, Melisandre would have remembered. Yet, his words rang fairly true – A fact which the Red Priestess could not possibly ignore.
<< Perhaps. >> She conceded, her voice serene as she merely spared him a side-glance before her red eyes went back towards the mesmerizing flames. His violet eyes were uncommon and rare, his skin-tone of a shade she had yet to encounter in Westeros, but thought she could vaguely remember in Essos. For now, however, this man paused no direct threat to either her goals or her person, and so perhaps letting him warm himself so close to the fire was acceptable. << However, you came closer. >> The argument in itself was unnecessary. He stood, tall and dangerously close to the flames’ burning embrace – closer, even, than her -, his back to the stake as if to prove he was not afraid. Thorough all of this, Melisandre’s face remained unreadable, focused on matters broader than what a stranger could have to say about herself or about the fire. And if the flames claimed him as theirs – If they planted their kiss upon his skin and rotted him to the core – the Red Priestess knew she would not save him. Instead, she would chant to R’hllor again, like she had already done tonight, and perhaps spare a few words for the fool who had tried to be unafraid of the flames. She supposed he knew this, too – If not in its entirety, at least partly. << Men oft fail to comprehend it is fire which spares us from darkness. >> She commented coolly. << I have been shown more than most would accept as truth. >> There were no questions asked as to who he was or what he might want from him. As of right now, in the sanctity of the fire – so close to R’hllor’s light and teachings -, it did not yet matter.
Everywhere, the war
//Alright, so - bed would be a good idea now, which means I'll likely crash down for the new foreseeable nine hours, but in the meantime, if any of you want to plot or thread or just have a chat or whatever, feel free to message me :3 Take care ~
{Red gaze seems lost, out of focus on the human world and looking at nothing in particular - Staring into nothingness. Her back is straight, but her hands are slightly shaking and she unconsciously grips the armchair she is sitting on tighter, her breathe bearly observable but even.}
"Intelligent words. However, I like to see before I believe in some situations. And this would definitely be one of those situations. So, if you really strive to impress, why not impress me now?”
<< I impress. It hardly means it is something I strive for, my lady. In fact, I assure you my aims are far greater. >>
❝ Vengeance is what brings me here—I would presume bloodshed is action enough. ❞ He had no desire to aid Stannis Baratheon in the war. Lucius only came in search of the whore that killed his twin, nothing more than that.
❝ Those that are responsible for my twin’s death will be found and made an example of. They left from Dragonstone not too long ago. I presume, so long as I follow their trail, I will be able to find them. ❞
Vengeance. The concept in itself was petty and unexceptional, but not necessarily disappointing - This would assume some sort of expectation Melisandre did not have towards the stranger, and she had much better and greater ideals to ponder on than one as human and flawed as vengeance. << And what of if you do not? >> She asked instead. << Whatever gain would you have then, of letting this sort of darkness claim your soul? >>
Yes, the t h r e a t .
Any of whom lay in association with Stannis fell under suspicion; the red priestess’ presence alone a cause for concern, in relation to the boy-king’s security. Incapable he stood not of felling her, should surprise lay on his side- yet oh, how dishonorable it would stand, to fell a woman upon his blade.
Though not q u i t e so dishonorable, as action previously taken. Against A e r y s .
Cold he would stand, distant from others to focus attentions upon Tommen- for the young boy so desperately required those of whom might secure his defense. Yet all too trusting, the child stood- any might deliver harm unto him, in making the child some empty promise to secure their place near him— awaiting proper time to strike.
A time of which it fell to Jaime to prevent. He and his sworn brothers; though trust he held not in them.
While Sers Balon Swann and Loras Tyrell might well present more in regards towards previous standards which the Kingsguard held.
❝— It does not make me impervious, no- one but needs only to glance upon my hand to behold that of which has already been made all too plain to see.❞
By all means, he appeared relaxed as he gazed upon the woman, remaining hand resting lightly upon the hilt of his sheathed sword. Even maimed, none there lay who would dare say Jaime Lannister lacked the deadly grace about him- mannerism still ever naming him the lion that he had been raised to be.
❝Why is it that you’ve come to this place, Lady Melisandre? S t a n n i s is not here; I would think it no place for one of his supporters. Least of all his red priestess.❞
There was something undeniable in Jaime’s words – Something missing, replaced by an abundance of pragmatic logic, of a narrow and clean understanding of the world. He was by any means more of a warrior and a knight that many capable men including those under Stannis’s command, and would continue to think like a warrior and a knight probably even if he ever started to consider these notions disgraceful. He thought like a warrior, then – Like someone who had an enemy and a purpose. Melisandre was not the enemy – Not really, not if she did not wish to be and this possibility, she knew, would poorly suit her purpose. And so she smiled calmly, quietly, in a manner similar though less genuine than a shy maid who had just been paid a compliment.
H i s red priestess. While Melisandre found she seldom cared about what was being said on her account, the sound Jaime Lannister’s words made as they rang into her ears was that of a blatant and simplistic refusal, a divide. It was the whole of King’s Landing’s army against Stannis. It was also, undeniably, the misguided faith for seven gods that did not exist against the faith of R’hllor. Explained in this manner, the whole conflict seemed easy and clean-cut and, by definition, if the red priestess was not with King’s Landing then she was against it. Her fight was much broader, much brighter than these divides. << I am not his. >> It was true, of course – Melisandre was R’hllor’s and by addition, Azor Ahai’s. She belonged to the light, the fire, the faith – Concepts much different than that of warrior or knight. Azor Ahai was Stannis, and this was who she would defend and stand with, but she was not Stannis’s – Hardly. She belonged completely to the idea of him and of what she had been shown of him and trusted in. Still, a simpleton would have understood this statement as a vague affirmation she had switched sides, or could be convinced to do so. Jaime Lannister was many things, but not that sort of fool. << My presence here might be merely a harsh and unnecessary reminder that Stannis will prevail. It might be an alliance proposal against some common enemy that might have arisen. It might also be my searching for a specific sort of fire. Would any of these answer make any d i f f e r e n c e, Sir Jaime ? >> It would not.
//And of course, it seems very important it's really not to mention I am catching up listening to this, at past midnight where I'm at. Very Melisandre. Obviously a good life decision.

//So, in between other things, my Live-Box crashed. Luckily, it was replaced today aka - My landlady did her job today, but this also explains my unpredicted absence, as the time I took on slow university computers were mostly for presentation-making purposes. I'm going to try and catch up sometimes this week-end/beginning of next week. Sorry about that :3
//I will be off for the night :3 to bed; not that I'm doing anything exciting at past 2:00 a.m x). Friendly reminder for all of you peeps you would want to para that this is open. Other than that, message if you want to plot or thread or anything? Bye ~
{ Her stare was cool, considering for a few seconds before quietly, precisely stating - } << I woul vastly appreciate you not calling me the next time you will need someone to bail you out of jail. >>
❝ From beyond the Great Grass Sea, I take it. ❞ Despite her smiles, he was quite sure that they were false. So many people were liars—the only ones he could trust were family. This woman in red only gave him feelings of bad tidings. Nothing good would come of this, he thought. Yet a part of him felt drawn to her.
❝ A mere interest in Dragonstone and the lands that lay beyond—nothing more. ❞
The red-headed - and, in fact, red from head to toes - woman nodded almost impercetibly, as a confirmation of Lucius's words. << The furthest - Asshai. >> Her tone was cool and calm, denoting a clear absence of emotion or of reminiscing about the place she had been born and brought up in. These were mere circumstances, a past she had since long left behind and willed herself to forget. All that she was now, and would always be, remain to the God of Light. << And so as well as your interest and knowledge for geography, you would also be a man of action, my lord? Dragonstone would have much to offer you, were it the case.>>
“Melisandre, whose madness must not be allowed to spread beyond Dragonstone.”
