Something I've noticed in media with male leads – especially if he is clearly problematic, or has major flaws that get worse by the end of the story – is that people will always say that its the female lead's fault for them getting worse. I've seen it in with both 'Backrooms' and 'The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes' but there's definitely many other examples from other movies/shows/books.

"Well, it was basically [Female lead]'s fault for [Male lead] doing what he did" is something I've been hearing about Backrooms, and I've also constantly heard it in relation to TBOSAS. Like, don't get me wrong I think the people saying this don't mean any harm really, I can understand why they would think that. BUT— saying the female lead is directly at fault for a mans declining mental state really rubs me the wrong way. Like the male lead was already an asshole in the beginning and any part the female lead had in their eventual downfall was purely accidental.
