🙌Shane’s positivity is inspiring & not lost on me, I am so grateful for that reminder of perspective *** <<yet >> as a collective member of society I gotta rant because this issue needs lots of words and voices*** so if feeling like fueling on with me regarding current procedures and experiences around required mobility devices when traveling via the airport.., I know the dream of modern travel came from a childlike in privileged unawareness and am happy we have progressed to the points we are at in so many ways as far as mostly being able to afford to budget in travel while also aware that when air travel was being designed the era only saw paper doll cut outs as potential passengers it seems, and we as humans are great at figuring out how to fit within boundaries and one size fit all scenarios for the most part ease aside, though we are also now privileged to have voices and information and change and options (there could so be a plane designed with adaptability in mind)
For belief in progress I just want to begin here in my own world to spin the web of thought further or simply to take up using and sharing words for adding to any and all noise around the issue of how it is unacceptable overall there is still the obvious exclusion of accessibility accommodations which are prevalent in air travel, we are asked about what accommodations are necessary other paces we are aware as a society yet this issue of motorized wheelchairs being broken or the imminent risk there of and accommodations to mitigate that are for as long as exclusion and plastic bite sized practices have existed and exist uninterrupted in our airline industries existence a part of the loss to the once magic of modeling of customer service as incentive to fly into the unknown.
There are also still no solid mandated or required as a reliable option to not be placed in a child booster seat rather then the ease and familiar comfort of the functioning extension of “body” or it seems very little plans in place for how to deal with the violations caused by these requirement of fitting into the one size fits all structure around an unadaptable restrictive infrastructure in which if your “body” (in Shane’s case his chair is a literal extension there of) also if it “body” doesn’t “fit” it risks being broken with careless handling or and in some cases a person must purchase a second seat to fit in if their “body” needs more space then allowed.
I wonder with motorized chairs do they make waiver signing a priority like when parachuting 🪂 - if so & also what insurance options are available for motorized chairs offered when flying and is there an extra charge?.
It’s silly we once only had these visuals of able one size fits all bodies fed to us to agree on of what a “perfect” utopia people were who could fit into little “perfect” once glimmering now stale seats with only the dust of past passions for customer service incentives and magazine style promotion💺 it’s silly because where has it gotten us other then on a decline and the beauty if airlines is the fact that there are ups and downs and distance made; has it not been long ago realized to be in reality a shallow fraud to expect the masses to fit in these magazine flat pages and little seat boxes acceptedly uncomfortably without “exceptions’ in the least even for the functionally diverse who are in so many unique yet similarly a part of the beauty and functionality of our society as customers...and the experience of customers who with the appreciation of the fact we all want to fly also want progress as a people in existence together and response or a new airline investor or just working with what we have even to call out the fact people’s literal extensions of their beings are being routinely broken after being forced to conform to this one size must fit, non-innovative, antiquated infrastructure of travel option (I feel we can & have been creative around the pandemic as good practice even for adaptivity of all individuals comfort levels) really even down to the numbers I get that big change is costly yet what is the worst from actually trying this fair society thing out where when a person is required to use their motorized chair as an extension of their ability to fully function they are also able to fly functionally because the process has been inclusive being attentive to such things. Or simply why not just have, if forcing this procedure-still, strict protocols in place for how motorized wheelchairs are handled by trained specialists in place by a check box on the ticket purchase saying it will be needed and also a guaranteed on site wheelchair repair technician or expert available??? I am, in a privileged position to our current structure of how things are catered to my able body who is not able to myself to fully in all of the ways it must be be awful to experience what I keep seeing of people’s wheelchairs being broken while flying yet I get it, I am certain common sense of airline procedures can get that too, this is the point, don’t we all get it enough to start to see adaptive changes & accountabilities and assurances put in place reliably just like accessible entry or parking options … just a train of thought hoping to continue to spark lots of 🔥thank you for creating awareness Shane and @hannahayl
I need to outlet somewhere.
What does that even mean? To outlet, to vent, to release?
I use to make up songs for strangers, usually after nights of imbibing; or I’d write poems to be left behind, hiding behind cigarettes always with others in these spaces or alone when the desire to create spirals into depressions abis, cigarettes my main outlet, and in a little over a week I’ll be getting my tonsels taken out, so no more cigarettes...plus I do want to quit smoking & using them as I have all these years, it’s as though they have been a some sort of tangible leash to life for me or sanity or just simply a way to mask not allowing myself to REALLY feel my feelings.
I am remembering how I use to journal & I see this post as possibly a beginning, a new option in the least ? A way to merge my old outlets into a new form.
Playing at attempts to use this platform in the past, let’s see if I can allow myself this space, semi-hidden like behind a cigarette yet putting myself out there on a limb singing my own unique song of perspective, releasing some of the weight of troubles I mull over yet have not fully formed acceptance to feel to see in the structure of who I am or what it might mean to me to live a life at peace. Here’s to hoping rambles eventually amount to clarity.
Kindness is strength, a choice from all perspectives to remain rooted in bravery. To be kind is a choosing to grow in resilience rather then
Friends figuring life out. We share this dream of life.
I now believe in the ability to figure out tangible struggles from playing with a Rubik’s Cube; also I learned to be unconditionally hopeful from a special love I found in a chicken. Perspective is a gift. connecting with another soul the greatest treasure.
