Title: Sunday mornings with a workaholic.
Fandom: Jewelpet Twinkle
Pairing: Alma Jinnai / Akari Sakura
Word Count: ~800 words
Summary: Alma attempts to wrestle her workaholic mangaka wife away from her desk on their rare day off.
For most working adults, weekends were a chance to catch up on rest and sleep in. A chance to destress and spend time with loved ones. Or if it were a particularly lazy day, stay in and cuddle until the heat death of the universe.
The Jinnai-Sakura household was no different, or at least that's what Alma hoped, as she was currently trying to wrestle her mangaka wife out of her desk and back into bed.
To her misfortune, years of being raised by a strict editor mother, and working as a Shojo mangaka, have almost completely deleted the concept of a rest day from Akari's dictionary.
"No, Alma, you don't understand. I just have to finish this page and then I can I sit down."
"You said that two pages ago, give me that pen Akari." Alma had managed to snatch her lover's stylus away, but Akari was too quick and lunged back to get it. They tumbled down to the floor with a loud thud, Alma taking the full force of the hit.
The sudden change of position had stunned the brunette, she had just accidentally tackled her wife and she desperately needed her to be okay or she will cry, stylus be damned.
"Alma! Dear, are you okay? I am sorry. I am so, so sorry." Akari had moved to hold her.
"Ouch—" Alma yelped, reaching out to hold her left elbow, her face scrunching in a pained expression.
"No!" Akari reached out, "I am so sorry, baby, I am such an idiot." Her hands hovered over her wife's elbow, looking on the verge of tears. "Are you alright? Let me see. Should I bring you ice? Wait here, I will go get it."
She quickly stood up to head to the kitchen, before Alma's hand shot up and held her wrist.
"Wait, Akari." Alma whispered and Akari immediately dropped to her knees and held her hand.
"What? What is it Alma? Does it hurt too bad? Should I call an ambulance? Oh god no, did you break it?" Akari was all but hyperventilating at this point, her eyes were brimming, a stark contrast to the stubborn mangaka she was just a minute ago.
The sight proved to be too comical for Alma to hold it in and she let out a snort, then a giggle, then full on laughter.
"Alma! Seriously, It was a prank this whole time?" Akari looked furious, she tried to snatch her hand away but Alma's grip was too tight.
"Akari," Alma said through giggles, "you should have seen your face." She wiped a stray tear from her cheek, "a one meter fall on a carpeted floor isn't going to break my elbow, darling."
"Hmph, you are such a meanie sometimes." The younger woman turned her head away, trying to keep up her furious act, but the sound of her wife's giggles was just too cute to resist.
"Well, can you blame me?" Alma fully pulled Akari into her arms, right on the floor, "my beautiful wife was ignoring me on our rare day off for the sake of some pixels on a screen. I had to do something."
Akari's eyebrows furrowed, her mouth curving downwards. "I am sorry, I know I can be hard headed sometimes."
"Only sometimes?”
"Alma! I am trying to be sentimental here." Akari looked up at the Jinnai currently holding her.
"I am sorry, I am sorry," Alma chuckled, "but luckily for you, it's still only 10 am." She stood up, helping Akari up with her. "Let's get back to bed."
They walked back to their bed, still holding hands. Akari was the first to jump onto the mattress, immediately melting into it. As much as tried to hide it, being a mangaka was an incredibly tiring job and exhaustion has made itself a home in her bones. She needed all the rest she can get.
Alma soon followed, draping the blanket over the two of them. Akari immediately snuggled up to her, spending the last of her energy to sit up and plant a soft kiss on her wife's lips before falling into a deep sleep.
The older woman stayed up for a few more minutes, studying the face of the sleeping beauty right next to her, a face she's known for so long yet she would never get sick of. Those eyes that had only ever looked at her with compassion even all the way back in Jewelland. That bright smile that saved her heart from the cold, harsh grasp of the Battest.
A soft, sleepy "Alma," interrupted her train of thoughts.
"Okay, okay." She kissed Akari's forehead and settled her head on the pillow next to her. "Sweet dreams, Akari. I love you."
A muffled "love you too," was the last thing she heard before she, too, dozed off to Dreamland.

while on the topic of magical girls this ⬇️ show has been my favourite since childhood its so underrated pls watch it ok idk how to spread propaganda its just rlly cute and sweet and magical and utterly nonmalicious please ive met like 2 people who watched it in my lifetime 🌀🌀WATCH JEWELPET TWINKLE🌀🌀🌀
🃏💎 Jewelpets and the Clow Cards : Everything will be fine
A positive message which might sounds mellow for some, but not for me and others 🫶
(Long explanation for why I did this drawing below: ⬇️)
Has someone ever cried by sadness with laughter ?… I am. If I should say what is the intense pain-from-suppressed-depression expression, that could be this : Crying by sadness with laughter.
It happened one time when I was watching the episode 46 : The final judgement from Cardcaptor Sakura in 2018. It wasn't… a great year to be fair. Like Sakura, i was feeling alone in a world which didn't seem not my place. Today, I watched it again, 7 years later. Well, I didn't have the same pain feeling, but I'd be lying if I was saying I didn't feel like crying…
I did the same for Jewelpet Twinkle by watching the episode 51 again. And strangely… I saw myself with Alma (like I'd felt in 2018, but with Sakura) : the loneliness feeling, the fear to trusting other, the conviction that I must handling everything of my own, etc.
Nowadays, I keep going ✊ As long as I share my love, whether in my drawings, my cooking, my interactions with my friends, etc., I know I will emerge from any pain victorious, whatever happens :
Thinking of starting a daily drabble series for Jewelpet Twinkle on AO3, inspired by the word of the day. Just as a little warm up for the longer Twinkle fics I have planned.
One of my (sad) Twinkle head canons is that Alma passed away at a young age, like a really really young age, due to the effect that the evil magic had on her body.
I imagine her, Yuma and Akari were walking to school normally one day, laughing and talking and then the next day she's just gone.
This headcanon also includes Diana and Opal not knowing about it since they're far away. So they spent the whole entire time looking for the happiness flower alongside Ruby, thinking Alma was back home waiting for them, but in truth there was nobody waiting.
