This is an old photograph of a legally grown marijuana crop in rural Crittenden County, Kentucky that was taken in 1942. During World War II, the U.S. Government paid farmers in rural Kentucky to raise marijuana for national defense purposes. The marijuana plants were used to make hemp rope. Legal marijuana growing ended at the end of World War II.
In 1945 Willie Francis at age 16 was charged with murder of a drugstore owner in St. Martinville Louisiana. The murder went unsolved for nine months until Francis was detained due to an unrelated crime. Police claimed he was carrying the wallet of the drugstore owner in his pocket. A short time later, Francis confessed to the murder in writing after he was interrogated. He later directed the police to where he’d disposed of the holster used to carry the murder weapon.
Despite two separate written confessions, Francis pleaded not guilty. The state-appointed defense attorneys offered no objections, called no witnesses and put up no defense. Two days after the trial began, Francis was convicted of murder and was sentenced to death by the electric chair.
On 3 May, 1946, Francis was led to the execution chamber. As the lethal surge of electricity was applied, Francis screamed: “Take it off! Take it off! Let me breathe! Another report states that he said “I’m not dying!” The electric chair failed to kill Willie Francis. It turned out that the portable electric chair had been improperly set up by an intoxicated prison guard.
After the botched execution, Francis appealed to the Supreme Court citing various violations of his Fifth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendment rights. The appeal was rejected and Willie Francis was executed on 9 May, 1947.
The goldschmidt toad has a mutation that causes its eyes to grow inward into its mouth. Therefore it needs to open its mouth to see.
During alcohol prohibition, the brewing and transportation was prohibited. Moonshiners often brewed their moonshine in the middle of forests or meadows as to avoid detection. These “cow shoes” were often worn by moonshiners as to disguise their footprints. The idea behind this invention was that if law enforcement saw shoe prints in a forest or meadow they would think nothing of it and not investigate.
Before the 1960′s, when the TV series Flipper became popular, trained sea creatures such as dolphins were a very rare occurrence. Richard “Ric” O’Barry was a dolphin trainer at Miami Seaquarium and helped to capture five wild dolphins that would be trained to star in Flipper. He carried this on for 10 years until Kathy, who was the main dolphin to star in Flipper, died in his arms; he strongly believes she committed suicide when she didn’t resurface for air. It was this one event that completely changed his stance on what he was doing. He suddenly realised that imprisoning and training these beautiful and intelligent creatures for human entertainment was abhorrent. On Earth Day of 1970, Ric founded The Dolphin Project which is an organisation dedicated to educating people about the plight of dolphins in captivity. This organisation rescues and rehabilitates dolphins and releases them back to the wild. As well as this, Ric leads an international effort to stop the hunting of dolphins and the trafficking of dolphins to theme parks such as Sea World. He has written two books: Behind the Dolphin Smile and To Free a Dolphin, and also appeared in the documentary, The Cove.

Walmart is recalling nearly 4,000 bottles from a line of aromatherapy spray products linked with a bacterial disease outbreak. A bottle of “Better Homes & Gardens Lavender & Chamomile Essential Oil Infused Aromatherapy Room Spray with Gemstones” tested positive for B. pseudomallei, a rare and sometimes deadly bacteria that causes melioidosis.

Customers will also receive a $20 Walmart Gift Card upon return. Consistent with CDC recommendations, consumers should immediately stop usi
Current as of October 22, 2021
When I saw the headline I thought it would be something like Staph, not fucking Burkholderia pseudomallei. B. pseudomallei is put on the “tier 1 select agent” list because it has strong potential as a bioterror weapon. Also on that list are Bacillus anthracis (anthrax) and Yersinia pestis (black plague).
I really appreciate the 20 dollar Walmart gift card in exchange for being exposed to that
If you were exposed to this, don’t accept the gift card and definitely don’t sign anything. There is almost certainly going to be a lawsuit and Walmart’s lawyers might try to argue that the gift card constitutes a settlement and anyone who took it isn’t entitled to anything else.
