I’m re-watching “Swan Song.”

In the scene at the lake, when Hook dies, the camera cuts to Rumple and he is shaking his head in disbelief. 

He planned to take the Darkness when Emma when he believed Emma was going to die. He did this for Henry. I really believe he did this so that Henry doesn’t lose both biological parents (and yes, I believe Regina is Henry’s parent too.)

This is what Baelfire would have wanted him to do. He doesn’t want the Darkness, but he took it on for Henry, his only surviving family. This. The boy would be his undoing - but in a way we never saw coming. See, he believes Belle is gone for good. The only person he can redeem himself to now is Henry. 

This is what I’m going with until the writers prove me wrong in March. :)

This, I’ve just had the same though… that maybe he in fact did another heroic thing… he wanted to sacrifice his freedom to save Emma… because why not? he had nothing to lose…maybe he was sure that there will be a loophole because of his pure heart or he just didn’t care at all… he didn’t expected that “heroic” move of Hook… he wanted to save Henry’s mother and a woman his son loved the most. That’s why he couldn’t even look Emma’s in the eyes during that last scene and didn’t even tried to tell her the truth because he knows she won’t believe him…because before Belle come to the shop…he didn’t look happy at all, he was just sitting there, drinking… I think if he’d do it just to have his magic and power back he’d be happier, much happier…

Oh I love Rumple DO but what you said about him doing it for Henry just made me want to hug you and him *hugs*

I really really hope you’re right, that’s the only acceptable reason I’ve found too.... I think he says he has nothing to loose but him to Emma and wasn’t sure it would work so maybe it was to protect them....

Furthermore, he has a fucking PURE heart and has pulled out excalibur, how could he have done this if all he wanted was to go back to darkness?

I love Rumple, I love Bobby playing him as DO but I also love him as hero, as the man Belle sees in him....
