Sunny afternoons.....just love em! #skykisses #sunnydeal #bringonthesummer
Well, itâs done.......My first half marathon! What an incredible feeling it was to run with my daughter H and cross the finish line together.

Deal Pier!
Hip Hip Hooray!
It might be obvious from the title but my hip is definitely on the mend.....yay! After hobbling around for a few days popping Ibuprofen, I watched some Yoga videos on You Tube specifically designed for stretching the Hip flexors.
The results are.........my hips are well and truly flexed. H came home for a few days, we had a 6 mile run and it was pain free. So now I have become a Yoga bore and I have to say Yoga is truly the way forward. I will be Yogaing (not a real word) on a regular basis.
And what did we listen to on our run, I hear you ask?........... each other!
Till the next timeÂ
J :)Â
Hips donât lie....till they do!
So, my last run didnât go too well. I started off well and planned to cover 5 miles. After a mile my left hip started hurting........a lot! I carried on for another half a mile but then had to give up đŠ and walk home.
So, not highly motivational but on a positive note the book Iâm listening to, After youâ by JoJo Moyes, is really holding my attention. In fact Iâm not sure I can wait for my next run to find out what happens next.
Till then

Snowy Sunday âď¸
I havenât had a run in over a week.....so much going on in life.........so today I thought Iâd have a short run to get back in the saddle!
I really wasnât feeling it, so thought Iâd get an audio story in my ears to help me get going. âAfter youâ by Jojo Moyes was my choice, Iâm up to chapter 6 and even though I wasnât very motivated on my last run with it I thought it was worth a shot.
Well, thankfully the story has moved on and there are a few twists and turns that are definitely holding my attention.
Todayâs result, 4.5 miles in 48 mins! A bit slower than Iâd like but hey at least I got home before it snowed....âď¸ which was a bit beautiful actually.
Till next time,
J
Today was like a scene from âA Christmas Carolâ âď¸âď¸
Short & Sweet!
Plan was to have a shorter run but go a bit faster....I thought Iâd ease into the first couple of miles then pick up speed for the final 2!
That was the theory but with my running playlist in my ears and the first tune by The Killers, Mr Brightside.....a personal fave.....I couldnât stop myself and flew down Deal promenade! Big mistake, after a mile I was exhausted and staggered the next 2 miles finally recovering for mile 4!!
Lessons learnt for next time.......and the result
4 miles in 42 mins
Saturday long run!!
So, before todayâs run I did a bit of research.........always a dangerous thing to do, I knew Iâd be running around 8 miles and wanted to find out if I needed a drink to help me do it. The answer is âYesâ and as I didnât have any âgatoradeâ in the house I had to make my own. The result was a bottle of water mixed with elderflower cordial and a spoon of honey, tasted very nice though not sure it would be accredited by any sports association!!
My next challenge was to find something to listen to that would take my mind off the distance I was planning on running. This week I went for an audio book, got an app from âAudible Amazonâ and downloaded âAfter Youâ by Jojo Moyes. Iâd enjoyed the film âMe before youâ by the same author and this book was the sequel.
The result was a 9.1 mile run in 1 hr 49 mins. The drink was helpful though I might buy something proper for next weekâs outing. The audio book was a great distraction but I hadnât realised how sad the beginning would be, the heroine is obviously suffering from a type of depression caused by grief, so maybe not the best choice as a motivational tool, however, Iâm into it now and need to know what happens at the end.
Speak next week

Rainy Sunday Run!
Todayâs target was 6 miles. It was dry when I started out but after half a mile the heavens opened. Lucky for me, I had a hat...........Christmas pressie from P my husband. Note to self, always be prepared. The sea was calm and except for being a bit wet the conditions were good.
My podcast playlist started out with âRedemptionâ a piece from BBC Radio 4 on the classic Bob Marley track but through the eyes of musician John Legend, Jamacan Poet Laureate, Lorna Goodison and Bob Scott, to name but a few. This song had a different meaning to them all but was powerful nonetheless.
Then I moved onto Desert Island Discs and listened to Kirsty Young interview Bruno Tonioli, a judge on Strictly Come Dancing, a series that I adore!! Very enjoyable.
Finally, listened to an interview chaired by comedy historian Robert Ross with Matt Lucas, who was discussing his memoirs. Very funny.
Great listening today which helped me exceed my target and run 8 miles in 91 mins................Iâm very happy with that.
Speak next week.

Run and listen to....
This is my first blog and I'm feeling excited about putting pen to paper, so to speak!
Iâm not a seasoned runner, more of a ânow & thenâ 5k & 10k amateur. My daughter H talked me into running a half marathon due to take place in March 2018, so I'm looking for some inspirational words to listen to as I start training in earnest.Â
In this blog I'll illustrate my progress and the podcasts that help me through the miles to come.
See you at the finish line.....J
