Into the Arms of the Wolf
(Ariel runs onto stage crying where Bryce is sitting in the dark. Ariel sits down on the park bench.)
ARIEL: "Ariel you are just a child", they say. "You don't understand yourself, how can you understand anything else!" "There are things children just don't understand". I. AM. NOT. A. CHILD.
BRYCE: Well then what are you?
(Ariel jumps off of the bench)
ARIEL: SOrry, I didn't see you there..
BRYCE: It's alright. Do you want to talk about your problem?
ARIEL: No it's okay. I...I should probably get back home.(Moves to go)
BRYCE: That is a very adult disicion.
(Ariel walks back to the bench)
ARIEL: Really?! You think so?
ARIEL: Well, you see, my mother and I just finished arguing about my age? I guess you can say. And that's why I'm here. I needed air.
BRYCE: I come to the park when I need air too. What is your name?
ARIEL: It's Ariel. What do you need air for?
BRYCE: Just to take a break from being an adult.
ARIEL: Try being an adult and having to convince the other adults that you are one of them.
BRYCE: Ha! You do have it tough. How old are you Ariel?
ARIEL: Me, I'm a 37 year old trapped in an 11 year old's body, urh, what's your name?
BRYCE: Bryce. My names Bryce. So basically, your mother doesn't treat you like the adult adult that you are?
ARIEL: Yeah. She says that I am to young to understand the world and what goes on. But it's not just her ya know? My dentist still gives me stickers, the school makes me eat with 8 year olds and I'm not even allowed to see pg-13 movies without my mom. I DON'T WANNA SEE A MOVIE WITH MY MOTHER!
BRYCE: The world just doesn't understand that some souls are older than others.
ARIEL: Exactly! It's just stupid that I have to wait seven more years before people see me as I truly am!
