LOCAL MUSIC - RUNoffthestatic 'If You Have To Ask'
Review by Liam Whear
Release Date: 16th January, 2015
Rating: 3/5
For fans of: Flood of Red, We Are The Ocean, Funeral For A Friend
Twenty six seconds into the first song, and RUNoffthestatic already hit their first scrappy, melodic chorus. The Hull four piece don’t offer much new, but their emotive rock offers energy and a surprising diversity for a band this young; recalling all the best home grown bands Kerrang! showcased that you probably forgot about.
The back up vocals on ‘Never’ go straight from somewhat chilling harmonies to screams, in between the charmingly strained croon from vocalist William Crompton. Instrumental ‘Halcyon Days’ soars, ‘Can’t Sing That Song’ opens with a funky bassline and ends with a similarly funky guitar solo, while closer ‘Castles’ features one of their poppier choruses and closes with an impressive wail from Crompton.
RUNoffthestatic have ways to go before truly hitting their stride, but they have a knack of heartfelt catchy tunes. If they finetune their heavy punk sound into something more unique, they could be onto something.

3/5 not bad. I'm happy.
