Well, at least after the summer-like heat, my toe making a hole not only through my sock but my shoe and the not so ideal training, I finished in a somewhat respectable time of around 3:51. 😎 Now time for brunch, the beach & the spa! #LAMarathon #finishersmedal (at LA MARATHON Finish Line)
Some pics from today's gloomy but awesome 18 mile run. Looks like I will be running the #LAMarathon this year after all!
So excited to wear my new electric blue Zensah calf compression sleeves! The black 2XU sleeves that I have work great but it's time to add some color to my life. 😄
Just another gorgeous Manhattan Beach sunset! (at El Porto Beach)
After 10 straight days of working out I decided to take a rest day today. Now, when you find yourself feeling lazy and like you should be out there running with all of the other runners you know you're just a tad bit addicted.
In all fairness, for years I've known that I can get a bit obsessed with running--it's hard not to when it's a passion! I typically feel like I've earned a rest day after a 20+ mile run. Today it took everything in me to not head out for a run. But then I just kept reminding myself of how incredibly exhausted I was after yesterday's yoga class. After the class my mind was at ease, but my body was wiped out.
I'm going to have to make more of an effort to schedule in rest days and realize the good that they do for my training. Up next, a 10 mile run first thing in the morning! :)

It's not you, it's me. At one time or another we've all heard, or used, that line. However this may be a first where it's been used on a bike. After finally getting the hang of clipping into my bike, I took it to the road. I was out there riding, feeling proud I overcame my fear of clipping in, but realized I was not having fun! Here I am with this really great, beautiful bike but I found little joy in the act of road cycling. I started thinking if this isn't at all fun, why am I doing this?! That's when I made the decision to spend my free time doing workouts I love (running, yoga, swimming, spinning, hiking, etc), rather than adding another less enjoyable sport to the mix. And with that I returned my road bike. It was sad to let her go, but I figure it's better to let someone else ride the bike rather than letting it collect dust. For now I'll be sticking to my beach cruiser and aquathlons (rather than triathlons). In the end, at least I can say that I gave cycling a try. :)
One of the things I'll really miss from Barcelona are these amazing fresh fruit juices available at most markets. Perfect reward when finishing a run! My fave, strawberry coconut. #Barcelona #running #fruitjuice #markets #thelittlethings (at El Born)
Pics from this morning's new running path. The last run of the trip was an awesome 8.5 miler. :) #Barcelona #running #sadtoleave (at Rambla del Mar)
Losing Weight in Spain? This wasn't part of the plan, however when you run 6 miles each morning and then try to fit in as much sightseeing by foot as possible, one may very well lose weight on vacation. Even with all of the incredible food and wine! One thing that always amazes me is people's lack of walking. When leaving the Joan Miro museum yesterday I inquired about the best way to get to the Montjuic Castle (way up at the top of the hill--see the view from the castle in the above picture). I asked about walking and the guy looked at me like I was crazy, and instead recommended the cable car or bus. Well, the cable car concerned me since I can get claustrophobic and have a bit of a fear of heights, so I started walking. It was actually quite a nice walk. It was quite hot out but it felt good walking straight to the top of the hill while others arrived via cable car. I guess I'm one of the few that appreciates the physical journey, as many people opted not to walk. Then today when I took the wrong turn on the way to La Sagrada Familia, I confirmed the direction I needed to go and was again given the recommendation to take the metro straight there, rather than walk and see all of the additional sights and architecture along the way. You guessed it, I walked. But let it be known that I took the metro straight back to the neighborhood I'm staying in. :) It was then time for a rich meal of tapas at Cal Pep and dessert at Bubo afterward. When I get home I'll have to weigh in to see if I did indeed lose weight. Until then, walk on!

Airport Sprint to Beach Run As I was on the first leg of my flight to Cannes I overheard the flight attendant saying that due to weather we were being diverted and were going to land a half hour behind schedule. Immediately mini panic signals went off given that my connector to Munich was scheduled to leave 5 minutes after this new arrival time and I had no idea how far away the terminal would be. Upon arrival at the gate the United Airlines representative let me know the flight to Munich was taking off in 10 minutes and provided the gate number. Well, it was quite a trek...or let's say a sprint (was wishing I was wearing my Newton's!) so I was lucky to see them awaiting me as I arrived. They let me know I was the last one they were boarding. The plane was fully boarded, so I can only imagine that the United rep at the first gate must have put the call in (If so, thank you! If not, I guess it was karma!) I couldn't have been more grateful. Grateful to be here, and was also glad I didn't squeeze in that über early morning run before heading to LAX. This turned out to be a sprint workout I hadn't anticipated, but probably needed. I figured the picture of this morning's beach run would be much more enjoyable then me sprinting in an airport. :) Now let's get these Cannes and Barcelona workouts going!

Running is evolving. From Boston to the Canary Islands. From the science lab to the city streets. Running is getting more social. More interesting. And more ...
