I'm rurugumi and I'm an avid fanfic enjoyer. Welcome to my fic blog :)
I'm mostly a reader but lately I've been getting into writing :D
I like writing fluff and comedy. I'm not super good with angst (writing it, I mean) so it always comes back to some light hurt/lots of comfort with me tehee
I'm really into A3! Mostly I got stuck in the first 2 acts because I used to play in the english server before it shut down and I haven't been following what happens next :( I have no problem with spoilers though
I write lots of taiten bc I love them, the sillies,,,, also Taichi is my favorite character, he's my son your honor
Recently I've been really into Lego Monkie Kid as well! Love that show. I have some fics planned for it :)
My favorite character is macaque. I got a macaque keychain the other day and I've been riding that high ever since
I also write Batman fanfiction. Ironically, I'm... not that much of a batman fan? I've watched a lot of the animated shows and movies, but I've never read a comic e v e r. But batman fanfic is great and my friend is really into it and that's how I got into it.
For whatever reason, batman activates my creativity so I have many plans for batfics... and they always get out of hand...
I love batfam! I'm not that much into shippy batman/dc stuff but i'm not against it either y'know? But I'd be a fool if I were to ignore the neverending well of family fics that the batman fandom has to offer lmao
So, yeah, fic blog! I'll be talking about my fics, my plans, ideas that I didn't use, that sort of stuff c:
Today I bring you: a Roy-centric drabble set in the "Third time's the charm" universe
I wrote this back in august?? maybe?? and it's been sitting untouched on my drafts ever since. Now after a couple of quick reviews I finally decided to post it here bc it's a bit short for ao3 I think, idk. also this is less of a canon scene and more of a... character study/exploration I guess. In any case here it is and I hope you enjoy it :)
Step by step
The first few days, Roy thinks it's a nightmare. He goes to sleep every night and dreams of waking up in his nice, lived-in house, Lian climbing into his bed asking for pancakes for breakfast.
Every morning he wakes up in a small apartment that smells too much like cigarettes, too many empty bottles piled up on the floor by his bed.
The one thing keeping him sane is that he remembers. He remembers the mission and he remembers coming home. Soon enough, Cheshire should be dropping Lian off at his doorstep, and he wishes for it to be sooner rather than later because he just really wants his family back.
He entertains the idea of telling Oliver about the time travel, but just the thought of trying to explain himself to anyone, of convincing them that he's in his right mind, is exhausting. He ditches the idea altogether once he remembers that there's no one waiting for him back in his time.
Just when the days start to blur together and he begins questioning whether he did time travel or if his mind was playing tricks on him, Dick comes knocking on his door.
It's odd. He doesn't remember that happening before. But it's comforting as well, because it means he can still remember, and because it's Dick.
It’s even more odd when he brings up Jason, because he doesn't tell him that he's dead, no. Instead, he's talking about Jason acting weird, and he’s using the present tense, and Roy keeps the conversation going absent-mindedly as he runs the dates through his mind and realizes that Jason should already be dead, but he isn’t. Jason is alive. Jason is here.
Jason is here.
Clearly, Dick doesn't know, and it's automatic when Roy covers for him, for his partner, who is here, too. He's not alone. There may be nothing left for him, neither in the past nor in the future, but who cares? At least he has Jason, and soon enough, he'll have Lian again.
Dick is suspicious, that much is clear. He keeps shooting Roy those intense looks, as if he were trying to figure him out. Still, when Roy asks for help with getting clean, the furrow in his eyebrow softens. He looks concerned, but not doubtful. Never doubtful.
Roy hugs him tight before he leaves. Dick pats his back and promises to come back soon, this time with Jason. Roy earnestly tells him he can't wait.
He knows he's worrying Dick. An addict shouldn't just quit cold-turkey like that, and Roy Harper, age 20, shouldn't be so excited to hang out with his friend's little brother whom he has never met before, but he can't help the excitement building up inside of him. He's getting Jason back. Hopefully soon he'll have Lian too. In time, he can start working his way up to Oliver and everyone else.
If Jason is getting his life back, Roy will do that with him. He'll match him step by step. He's not falling behind now, not when the life that could have been is just within his grasp.
Today I bring you: a fun fact about Holy Interlude, Batman
Originally I had planned to write 2 interludes. One was Tim's, the other was Bruce's. I only decided to write Dick's interlude because I thought of the title first and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to use it hdkdjdkdj
It ended up being the first one I wrote,, Tim's is fully sketched out but I only have the first scene done, and Bruce... Well, listen, I have the first sentence ready, and a whole lot of character study planned! I swear!
My god college has been kicking my ass non-stop for the past few months,,, but now I offer you: scrapped content from two steps forward, one step back
so, originally, Tim was going to find og timeline Jason's research on his birth mother. This would lead to several events:
1. Bruce would have a talk with Jason about potentially finding his birth mom if he wanted to meet her or go live with her or something, that he would support him on everything. Jason was going to decline the offer, but he was going to be touched about how much Bruce cares about his happiness.
2. One of Jason's candidates for birth mom was Lady Shiva. I thought this was a canonical thing, but I never checked. Like, the reason this idea never happened is because I just... wasn't sure about this part and I never asked my batreader or double-checked in a wiki or smth soooo. Anyways. Lady Shiva! She's Cass's mom, so they were going to find Cass accidentally during this time lol
3. While looking up stuff about Lady Shiva, Tim was going to find out stuff about Talia Al Ghul and, well, from that part on it goes pretty similar to what ended up happening in the fic
4. Babs was going to be there, helping Tim. How did they meet? Unknown, we just hear Dick whining about it one day jdkdjdks
5. Unfortunately there was no Steph. I have the timeline in my head and like, from start to finish, the story takes about a year and eight months, give or take. So, Jason is 17 going on 18 at the end of the fic, and Tim is around 13-14, so I thought it might not be Steph time just yet, y'know?
Now the good news is that I came up with the idea for an epilogue, and here, you can have a little spoiler, as a treat (no pun intended). This epilogue takes place about a year after the end of the og fic, so at some point during that year, Tim becomes Robin, and soon after he meets Steph :)
i should be playing a3 and rewatching lego monkie kid for fic purposes and also writing the other... 6 or so batfics i have planned but like, i'm also finishing up this semester and it's kicking my ass rip
like rn i'm taking a break from a short presentation abt a project that i have to do tomorrow... and i also have a test tomorrow and i haven't studied for it yet and it's going to be 9 pm soon... so either i end this semester or this semester ends me, we'll see
(and i haven't even started preparing for next week, which is also full of tests and projects and shit... and also my birthday... hope the semester ends soon... and that i pass everything or else i'll die i guess?)
I feel so bad about not answering comments,, or answering them too late or only replying to some and not others,,,
I'm very awkward in general and two steps forward, two steps back got very popular very fast so I kinda just sat there,, very happy that everyone liked it so much! But also not really knowing how to react?? Jdksjsks
I'm heavily considering just,, replying with lots of hearts to everyone,,, you should be able to like comments in ao3, that'd be very helpful I think,,,
Admittedly I didn't really plan two steps forward, one step back very well. I have like... a general idea of the timeline and of the main events that happen, but I definitely didn't think that far ahead and I keep coming up with new ideas that can fit somewhere in between (hence the interludes)
So, yeah, Roy also time travelled. Don't ask me how. I never planned the context of whatever was going on when Jason got sent back. A wizard did it, I guess???? The only thing I know is that it happened during one of those world-ending crisis events and pretty much everyone Jason cared about was dead, and Jason was one of the last ones left standing
Jason and Roy, actually
Then, whatever sent Jason back also sent Roy back, but they have no idea that the other time travelled
Realistically, the reason why Roy doesn't try to find Jason right away when he comes back is that... I only came up with Time Traveller Roy when I was writing Holy Interlude, Batman, which was only written after I had already finished the main fic (and the roy part was one of the last scenes I wrote, too dhsksnksjs)
If I had to give an in-universe answer, though? Hooo, boy, I'm really good at making shit up so buckle up:
Roy wasn't expecting to time travel in the first place, so when he woke up in the past he was confused and disoriented. On top of that general confusion, he was back to a time when he was struggling with addiction
Because of this Roy struggled more than Jason with this new situation. I mean, for Jason, this was a second (or third, rather) opportunity. He went back to a somewhat good point in his life, so his mindset was more of a "I can turn this around for the better before I go back", and then when he remembers that there's nothing to go back to he's like "oh, well, gotta roll with it, I guess". But for Roy? In the future he had been doing well, he was living his best life! He had his daughter and his family and friends. Then he gets sent back to a pretty rough moment of his life, where he was alone (again, not very sure of actual dc timeline stuff, but this is my au so I can take some liberties, so I'm saying this was before Lian, even though I'm pretty sure she was already in his life by this point) and when he remembers that there's no future to go back to? He's devastated. I imagine this happens sometime before Dick goes to visit him, which is why he looks worse for wear when Dick first sees him. But then Roy starts doing better because he figures out that Jason is here too! That's his Jason! The Red Hood! He's not totally alone in this hopeless past! And if Jason is doing better for himself, Roy is just going to have to match him step by step
Why didn't Roy tell anyone about his time travel stuff? Because he didn't think he could trust anyone to trust him, and that messed with him too. Was he right? Who knows. He didn't even try because he couldn't stand the thought of his family not trusting him again
Keep in mind that since I didn't plan this from the start, this is mostly held together with duct tape, effort and lots and lots of creativity.
Also, as time goes on, Dick actually brings Jason to hang out with the Titans and Jason takes one look at Roy and realizes that he's from the future too. They're both really excited about this and they start slowly becoming closer as to not make Dick suspicious, but the joke's on them because Dick is already suspicious. He doesn't know if he's more jealous of Jay for stealing his friend, or of Roy for stealing his little brother
In another of the accompanying fics for this series, Jason and Roy's friendship makes another appearance! But telling more than that would be a spoiler so I'm shutting up now lol
yo no way???? did i stumble into a gold mine via your ao3 profile to your blog only to find it empty???????? is it brand spanking new and i somehow managed this timing??? i just wanted to rant about TTtC and HI,B! but now im thrown off my game tbh (not bad, just surprised!).
ANYWAYS ONTO IT AHCHJSHDNXJDJDJDJDNDJ DUDE I REALLY ENJOYED THIRD TIMES THE CHARM AND I LOVED HOW YOU MANAGED TO FIT JASON BEING AWARE OF THE FUTURE INTO HIS OLD SELF WITHOUT BEING BOTH TOO OBVIOUS OR TOO LACK THEREOF. LIKE SUBTLE ENOUGH THAT ROY IN THE MISSING SCENES JUST SAID BRO WAS LONELY. AND YOURENOT WRONG BUT IT WAS STILL FUNNY. AND I THINK it’d BE FUNNY IF ROY WAS ALSO FROM THE FUTURE WITH THE WAY YOU WORDED HIS BIT BC I THINK IF JASON AND ROY MET UP JN THE PAST THAT WOULD BE HELLA ICONIC TBF.
n-e-ways! your series had me giggling out loud tonight fr ! i hope your pillow is cold, your pores are clean, and your crops be watered!! hope you have a good night/day rurugumi :) <3
Omg hi!! I wasn't really expecting anyone here for a while but!!! Thanks!!! I'm really glad you liked my stories!!
About Roy, I kinda may have accidentally made him a time traveller too??? djksjsks like, when I was writing HI, B I wrote that line about Jason needing someone to see him for who he really is and then I was like "... did I just make Roy a time traveller? Yeah, sure I guess?? I mean why not???" And I had already planned to mention Roy and Jay being friends again in a future work in this series soo, it all worked out! But since it was a very last minute idea I've been thinking™ about why Roy didn't intervene sooner, or more directly. I was coming here to finish editing a post about that when I saw your ask, actually! So I'm going to go post that now :)) (and there may or may not be a Roy-centric drabble in my drafts... seriously, this series keeps getting away from me too easily)
Anyways, hope you have a nice day/night too, anon! c:
Recently I watched the k-drama marry my husband and honestly? It's so funny that my time travel world-building is exactly like that, but I hadn't even watched it yet when I wrote two steps forward, one step back. I actually watched it like a month after I posted the fic
But the parallels, people, I mean
Protagonist who has died time travels 10 years into the past? check (yeah, we're ignoring that Jason died, then revived and lived for a while before the time travel)
Being able to fix up your life and the lives of those around you because you know what's going to happen? check
Certain events HAVE to happen bc they're like "destiny"? check (see: The Joker kidnapping Jason)
You can "give" your fate to someone else? check (The Joker dies in the explosion instead of Jason)
Someone else time travels back and looks after the protagonist? check
