I honestly love your Hollow knight art a lot. I wish to be able to draw digitally too. If I wanted to do that, what drawing platforms and tools would you recommend? I kinda look up to you in a way…
answering your question.. it's kinda tough to advise something, it depends on what do you want to draw. me personally using Photoshop (PS for short) like 99% of time as a drawing app coz it was my first drawing app ever since the start. i'm totally satisfied with it and i can do everything i need with it whether it is painting, sketch or comic.
there're alternatives like Paint Tool Sai, or Crita, or Manga studio (Clip Studio Paint) many people find comfy to work with. their interfaces are similar to each other and to PS. i personally haven't tried them but i'd say: if you know one of these drawing apps well - you know others. you'll be able to easily jump between them if you need to draw something specific. if you want to draw comics or manga with all those accurate thin brush strokes - Clip Studio is all about that. it's brushes works a bit differently than PS brushes, allowing you to adjust them however you like and create reeeeally nice manga brushes. plus there're more features for comics like easy filling screentones, text bubbles, page managment and other useful stuff.
all apps are good for painting, no matter if you draw on one layer or multiple. i guess they all have all needed layers effects for good work. i suggest to focus on one app and master it, once you do it you can properly decide if you want to try and switch app. but from my perspective there's not so much depends on app that on artist itself.
i draw on Wacom tablet without screen but really it doesn't matter much what graphic tablet you're using, pen pressure availability is what matters, thats all. just look at honest reviews from real artists about various tablets' pros and cons and pick a stable model with your budget :3
as for me, i'm expecting to recieve my iPad so i'll be able to Procreate soon i hope. i've never draw in Procreate but for me it looks like Paint in comparison with PS. i don't mean it's bad, it's great and just as it needs to be even from a distant look (Procreate IS the reason i wanted iPad in the first place), i mean after already knowing PS (or similar app) everything simply looks like open doors. this works with an animation apps as well, in case you're interested in animation.
i think i'll never be doing professional work with iPad, it has many limitations for my taste. i get used to PS as a professional app and proper computer with graphical tablet but i know that many illustrators work with iPad procreating their illustrations in it. as i said earlier it depends on what stuff you want to draw.
well i hope i managed to answer your question a bit, well, in general at least. if you want to know something else feel free to ask :3
(also i forgot to post this piece at all and just found it. this is my version of how two grown up vessels (Knight and PV in this case) communicate with each other - through sharing their thoughts by physically exchanging void particles. basically that's how any vessel communicate with the others, they're all void children after all)
