On a trip to France in 1965 with my Swiss & French Mother Marguerite we heard this song by Francois Deguelt at the Country Villa of La Cousine in Verigny.
We both fell in love with the song immeadiately.
Mamy & I have always loved the sky, the sun, and the sea!
I am a dual American & Swiss Citizen.

My recipe:
LA SALADE
1 head of Romaine lettuce
3 carrots
2 tomatos
1 bunch of parsley
1 cucumber
LA VINAIGRETTE
1/2 cup of red wine vinegar
1/2 cup of extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon of oregano
6 cloves of fresh garlic
1 teaspoon of dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of pepper
1 teaspoon of MAGGI liquid seasoning by Nestle
Tear lettuce leaves and fill your bowl. Score cucumber with a fork and cut slices. Cut tomato into slices. Arrange decoratively cucumber & tomato slices. Peel strips of carrott and arrange decoratively in swirls over top of salad. Cut long sprigs of parsley and arrange them in visually appealing way to accent the top of the salad.
Mix ingredients together well in a cup. Slice garlic cloves crosswise and add. Stir well. Spoon vinaigrette over individual servings of salad as you serve. In doing this way any leftover salad will keep longer. Always make sure vinaigrette is well mixed. Vinaigrette will hold well at room temperature. Store salad chilled.

· CHUCK BOTTOM ROAST – 2 - 3 LBS
· 1 CUP FLOUR
· 6 – 8 CARROTS
· 6 MED RED POTATOES
· 2 MED WHITE ONION
· 1.5 CUP OF MUSHROOMS
· ½ CUP OF OLIVE OIL
· FEW BAY LEAVES
· 1 BOTTLE OF FRENCH RED BURGUNDY OR TABLE WINE
· MAMY’S LE CREUSET ORANGE POT
· 6 CLOVES OF PEELED GARLIC
CUBE BEEF INTO 1 ½ INCH CUBES
DUST IN FLOUR
CUT ONION IN QUARTERS
LINE BOTTOM OF PAN WITH OIL, BROWN BEEF WITH ONION AND MUSHROOMS
WHEN BEEF/ONION/MUSHROOMS SAUTEED THEN ADD FULL BOTTLE OF WINE, AND BAY LEAVES
SIMMER AT LOW FLAME, COVERED, STIRRING OCCASIONALLY, ADDING WATER
IF NECESSARY WHEN SAUCE IS GETTING TOO THICK
AFTER 1ST HOUR COOKING, THEN CUT VEGETABLES INTO BIG CHUNKS (QUARTER) AND ADD TO MEAT & SAUCE MIXTURE
CONTINUE COOKING ENTIRE POT AT LOW FLAME, STIRRING OCCASIONALLY, TURNING OVER ENTIRE CONTENTS AND NOT LETTING BOTTOM BURN
AGAIN ADD WATER WHEN NECESSARY TO KEEP SAUCE CONSISTENCY
TOTAL COOKING TIME IS ABOUT 2.5 TO 3 HOURS FROM START
ALL DONE WHEN VEGETABLES AND MEAT ARE TENDER WHEN POKING WITH A KNIFE
SERVE WITH A NICE FRENCH BURGUNDY AND A GREAT CRISPY BAGETTE TO SOAK UP WONDERFUL SAUCE!
FEEDS ABOUT 6 PEOPLE PER POT – KEEP INGREDIENTS IN PROPORTION IF MAKING MORE THAN ONE POT AT A TIME
STEW WILL FREEZE WELL, AND WILL KEEP FOR SEVERAL DAYS IN REFRIGERATOR

RING IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH CRANBERRIES / CRYSTAL / ORANGE
A festive addition to your holiday table!

RING IN THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH CRANBERRIES / CRYSTAL / ORANGE
A festive addition to your holiday table!
CRANBERRY & ORANGE RELISH RECIPE
YOU WILL NEED:
PER BATCH
1 bag fresh cranberries, 1 orange, 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar.
PREP
1/4 oranges.
Filet out white from peel with a paring knife.
Julienne peel into thin strips.
Cut orange sections into thick pieces
COOKING
LOW FLAME
LOW & SLOW - THE WAY TO GO!
NO COVER
Put in pot all ingredients & stir.
Put on a low flame.
Cook julienned orange peel, orange sections, cranberries, sugar & water, until the cranberries start to pop. Keeping some of the cranberries whole & intact.
Stir occasionally.
It makes a nice presentation and better texture this way.
COOL
Then let relish cool on the stove.
Put into containers.
Then refrigerate.
Relish should last refrigerated in a sealed container for several weeks.
You can also freeze relish if you wish.

A BUSY DAY BUILDING A NEST FOR A BIRD IN THE FRENCH COUNTRYSIDE
"EUROPE 1965" Series
I (in the red sweatshirt) spent the day with Nadine & her family. They lived next door to La Cousine Marcelle (Mamy's cousine) on their farm in Verigny, France.
We all worked very hard to save an injured bird and built him a new home.
Later, I shared my adventures with Mamy. I showed her a Polaroid picture of our day! This was the latest technology in 1965!
After our nice talk, Mamy put me to bed with my favorite book: "Tim et Poum dans La Foret" (Francais)"Tim and Poum in the Forest" (English) - written & illustrated by Pierre Probst. This famous children's book is part of a series about the adventures of a Rabbit named Tim & his best friend Poum a Scottish Terrier Dog. Probst created many different series & characters.
After our visit in France with Mamy's cousins in August of 1965 we later visited Switzerland. First we visited The Ritters in Basel. Next we visited Gotti (Mamy's Godmother) in Grindelwald - in the heart of the Swiss Alps - The Berner Oberland.
