It’ll be September soon and that means two things for me - and my activity on here. First of all, I’ll be back at school and I’ll be more stressed. Or just have more work so, either way, that means fewer replies.

The second thing is that I’ll be trying to do something about my home situation. It’s abusive and I’m reporting it. That’s the bottom line anyway. Things could change a bit. I’ve no idea how. There’s a huge chance that the people I’m reporting it to will just laugh in my face.

Basically, that means less activity all around once September hits. Starting this weekend, I’ll be posting (however inconsistently) on: ihaveadifferentfinalrequest, asuranofatlantis, chasingthered. I won’t be posting (but will still be available OOC) on: rustinmyveins, thethreadstorunaway. I have no idea whether I’ll be replying to stuff on the kids’ blogs (chasingtheveille, teslenchildren). But those two have other muns on them, who own those muses just as much as I do. So they might post.

It’s not that I don’t like RPing - I do. But I also like my mental health and I’m not going to be able to keep up with school and RP replies. XD Sorry… This might explain why you’re waiting on a reply, if you are.

I think that’s everything. ^_^ I’m going to reblog this to all of the urls above, minus the kids, and put it in my sidebar for the first one because I make way more posts on him.

He grinned and gave her a nod. Considering he was one of them. A brother to a criminal mastermind that has a profession as a circus performer. He expected the rest of the people at this party to have something along the line of money, crime, strange background or to be supernatural one way or another. “Not all that important? You never know, someone might think otherwise.”

“I... Thank you. That's nice of you to say. But at least some of me’ll only believe it when I hear it from 'someone'. Whoever that someone is, of course."

While there might've been certain reasons why she was considered 'important' enough to attend, she was doubtful that some of them were the ones responsible for her being important.

She shook her head, grinning. “You think I’m joking, don’t you? I don’t spread these stories on a whim. I just didn’t think the guy in the corner, making the most of his drink, would really be all that bothered. If you’re anything like my…friend Lee, you might not have even remembered it.” Unless he was planning to make some serious progress, she wasn’t sure if that’d ring true at all.

Taming her smile, and hoping he wasn’t the type to go home (wherever that was) and laugh about that kind of thing, she continued, “Besides… You’re not telling me that you haven’t done some things you rarely share with others.”

“I’ve done a lot of things that I don’t share with strangers,“ he explained with a shrug, bringing the glass back up to his lips to take another swig. That stuff really wasn’t bad; not exactly what he was usually drinking, but he surely could make an exception for it now and then.

“And if you think I’m gonna share one of those stories with you now, then I’m sorry to disappoint you - but I won’t tell you anything.” It sounded rude, even to him, and Eric quickly raised one hand. “Nothing against you. I just wanna live a little longer, and so far I’ve managed that pretty good, I think.”

"Don't worry, I understand. I don't expect you to tell me anything anyway - I was just trying to...justify running my mouth. Back home - England, I mean - I'd be a lot more careful who I was speaking to and what I was saying. Right now, I'm one face in a crowd of people who were probably born with several more silver spoons in their mouths than I was."

She made a short, but not strained, sort of smile and glanced back over at the greater mass of people at the party. "How about a change of topic? What do you think landed you here? Are you interesting? Important? Somewhere between the two?"

In all seriousness, the thief didn’t know whether to laugh or to pity her. That story sounded like it had come straight out of a television show or a bad movie, and his lips already twitched at that thought. She just got to be kidding him. Plus, who would tell a complete stranger a story like that? Eric wasn’t running around, telling everybody about his profession, either. It was just completely insane.

Swallowing hard, the thief cleared his throat before he brought the glass back up to his lips and took a long swig at first, his gaze averted from the female as he thought about a reply. “Well…” he began, mentally patting his own shoulder for that more than brilliant answer. “That, umm…that sounds like…like a lot of fun.” The grin couldn’t be kept away any longer, his eyes being squeezed shut as he shook his head and began to chuckle.

He held back a smile. An optimist…well, he had to be. It was tough, but if he stopped looking on the bright side. Well, let’s just say he wouldn’t be here. “I can only give you the suggest of whom not to look for. The host for one. Besides that the rest is a mystery. If the invite says anything you’ll meet someone interesting…though important is something else all together.” He shrugged with a soft smile before reaching for a glass of champagne from a waiter.

Hestia had heard quite a bit about their host, of course, but had neglected to keep up with much of the outside world since July. So she'd have to take his word for it.

“I’m not all that important anyway so I wouldn’t worry about that. But, going off of what I know about Jackson Doherty, I’d bet that interesting’s almost guaranteed. Whether it’s the kind of interesting I want to meet is another matter altogether...” She chuckled to herself, taking a sip of her drink and glancing around. “I think I’ll wait a while before I...go on the prowl.”

His cheeks had adopted a reddish color, the smirk not leaving his lips all the while she was talking. Head sunken slightly down, he was staring at the counter of the bar, the glass with that strange but fruity drink she had recommended. Sometimes he just couldn’t keep his mouth shut, and that was something his mother thought would get him killed one day.

“Well…” Eric began quietly, clearing his throat then before he was actually able to glance up at her again. “My, umm…comment aside…I’d love to know, though, what exactly was so…so hot about your dance, then. And what had almost got you killed. I mean…” His shoulders moved up into a shrug. “How can you get killed when you dance? Di–Did you slip and fell off somewhere or what happened?”

“It’s all a bit ridiculous. Let’s just say that a little girl and her grandfather tried to kill me. And my son. When they couldn’t manage that, they ended up setting their own house on fire: overpriced curtains, forged paintings, rubbish flooring...” The stripped down details still seemed wild enough but, in all hopes, he wouldn’t be scared off by the tale.

Taking a sip of her drink, she added, “Like I said, as much as I’d like to think so, it wasn’t my dance that was hot. The whole thing was part of my job, people don’t often try to kill me - before you ask.” But, when they did, they made a brilliant and dramatic show out of it all and forced her team further into hiding.

Jeremy listened intently. the more he learned, the more he understood, despite the vagueness of what she did for a living. He had had similar situations. Some were still on-going. After a moment of silence, and the music of the band filling up the space between words he replied, “Well that’s all you can do then. Give yourself a chance once in awhile.” He shrugged. The fight had long been over and the looked like it was returning to it’s former state for the most part. “You may just find a chance here. You never know.”

“It sounds like someone’s an optimist... Not that that’s bad, of course. I could use a little more of that myself - optimism, that is,” she musing, glancing over at the relatively calm party.

She’d thought he’d pursue the subject of her job much further. As it turned out, he seemed to understand what she was talking about. Either that or, like many others she’d met, he had decided to take her word for it so they could move on. Either way, she was grateful.

“I might. Although, you might have to make a suggestion or two.”

A frown washed over his face, his hand taking hers into a firm grip as he shook it, almost forgetting to pull his own back again afterwards as he kept staring at his new friend. Her statement was confusing, really, and he had no idea why she was telling him about her bank account, but he clearly didn’t like it. But then a smirk was playing around his lips as he tilted his head.

“What - was your dance that hot?” he asked, obviously without thinking about his comment beforehand. Once having realized his mistake, his features fell, and the thief raised his brow, his hand moving up into an apologetic gesture. Almost as if he was surrendering to the police. “Oh god, sorry, I–I didn’t mean to…that sounded so soupy, I didn’t–jesus…” A sigh escaped his lips, his fingers pinching the bridge of his nose.

She withdrew her hand, bringing it back to the other, and smirk overtook her lips as he walked into his own trap. And she was about to laugh, too, but thought better of it and settled with the smirk. “Honestly? It was constricting and boring. The dance, that is. As for that line, I honestly don’t mind. Half of the things that I say could be taken the wrong way ten times over.”

Compared to some of the times people had actually been trying to flirt with her - or make any kind of comment in that direction - at least it was well-timed and actually related to the conversation. “I’d relax if I were you, I also nearly died then so it can’t have been that hot,” she quipped, head tilted to the side a little. “I’m sure Jesus is grateful for the mention, though.”

He nodded and was happy to help out. Getting someone else to consider having a love life, he could see the crew now, lecturing him about getting one himself. He would in his own time…maybe. “Suppose? Way you are? Age range?” Jeremy had to laugh a little. “Those sound like excuses. Though it may not be my place to say this. Especially having no clue what you do for a living but… maybe live a little?” The fact that there was a particular someone that might make her happy on that level. It broke his heart a little that it may not happen for what he found silly reasons. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have pressed you. I’m just an romantic I guess.”

Hestia raised an eyebrow and shook her head. “Anyone I know will tell you I’m the biggest supporter of ‘age is just a number’, within reason, but the age factor is more his problem than it is mine.” The ‘cover story’ sounded more ridiculous than the truth.

“What we do for a living can be violent and he doesn’t forgive or forget. It’s not something bad, I suppose, and it’s not a trait I intentionally avoid in lovers. But, after knowing him for a few years, I’m not sure either of us could live with each other like that.” She’d had relationships in the past, of course, but they hadn’t always ended in a pretty way. Nor was she scarred by them. She just hadn’t found anyone to drag along with her.

“It’s fine, honestly. I would be too, if I gave myself chance.”

Oh god, it was hilarious with that woman. And he wasn’t even drunk. It was probably the first time that evening that he was actually and sincerely grinning, glad at last to have come to that party. Though the definition of ‘party’ was something completely different in the thief’s head - more booze, more people, more fun. And, most importantly, he didn’t have to wear that stupid suit and tie. He felt uncomfortable in it, and basically everybody could see that.

Still not able to wipe that stupid grin away, Eric fully turned around to her now, holding his hand out for the female to take. “My name’s Eric, Miss Pillar Dancer. And I’m afraid you’ll have to find someone else if you wanna dance.” He gave her an apologising shrug of his shoulders. “Last time I danced, I got married. And that’s a long time ago, and I don’t intend to do that again.”

A few minutes ago, she’d been considering spending the night in a seat with her phone - at least her internet speed could never be as slow and broken up as her conversation had become. She hadn’t thought of reviving said conversation by admiring architecture with a man who called her ‘Miss Pillar Dancer’. Not that it was a particularly bad fate, by any stretch of the imagination (the conversation, not the career as a pillar dancer, of course).

Hestia took his hand and shook it. “Hestia Rust. Not that the name means anything; I’m British, I just have a big enough bank balance to travel far and often.” Technically, it was all her bank account. “Oh, please... The last time I danced, a man died and a mansion burnt down. I think it’s safe to say that I don’t need to be doing that again.”

“You sound like you have experience in cleaning floors, one might think you spend a lot of time near them…” She bit her lip, glancing away from him to calm the laughter bubbling up in her throat. Whatever they were actually, and she wasn’t sure about that, he seemed to be equally comfortable with ridiculous talk.

“As for the pillars…” She glanced behind him, one hand tapping away at her wine glass. “I’ve always thought there’s some kind of secret to it. Maybe the upper classes have some kind of secret society where they share insane cleaning products. They need something to get all the wine stains out of the furniture, don’t they?”

What she said about floors wasn’t even far from reality. How many times he had already woken up on the wooden floor of his apartment after a night out in a pub, that was something he had lost count already long ago. Their conversation was so ridiculous and silly that it took all the thief’s strength to keep the laughter away, and yet his lips were twitching constantly, threatening to turn into a broad grin.

It was refreshening to talk to somebody who didn’t seem to have a stick up their ass, and adding to that - she was funny. “Or maybe they put these plastic tarpaulins on them, you know, and take them off whenever they have guests. Would also explain why everything here’s so clean. Not the smallest hint of dust anywhere.” Eric glanced around for a brief moment before his attention returned to the woman. “But those are secrets that will never be revealed to people like us that sit below the salt.”

“Oh, it’s such a shame. I mean, I’ve always wanted a big shining white pillar. Now I can’t have one because I can’t keep it clean.” Hestia pouted, mock disappointment written all over her expression. “But, all things considered, I think I’ll stick to what I have. Much more fun than white pillars. What am I going to do with them? Spin around them and become the world’s first pillar dancer?”

This was honestly the last thing she’d expected at a party with so many upper class citizens on its guest list. And, although she’d likely never tell anyone else, she actually quite liked the utter ridiculousness of it. She looked over at him with a broad grin, the laughter in her words. “You still haven’t told me your name, Mister Architecture Admirer. I prefer to know these things, you see, before I go confessing my plans to take the world by storm with my dancing.”

Hestia paused, the words on the tip of her tongue. They felt dramatic and cliche, and a few other choice words described them. But they didn’t fit with her at all. It was discomfort - more like making colourful stripes on a wall that had always been white. They were too loud, too obvious, too alien.

“As ridiculous as it sounds, my love life. Or lack thereof. They’re all either quite a bit younger or older than me and have some kind of wavering obsession with pairing me off. I think they think I’m an iron lady and I won’t let anyone else in.”

Jeremy grinned with amusement. So it was just not having any romance in her life. He could understand where she was coming from. The twins teased him about having a long distant girlfriend or the boys pestered him to go out with someone once in awhile. They were all younger than he was but were past the point of trying to set him up. “It’s not ridiculous.” He spoke softly as he added, “I’ve been in a similar situation myself. In my experience it’s just to see that you’re happy and not lonely. If you can’t reassure them then…” He paused for a second and shrugged with a goofy smile, “Then let them set you up a few times and see what happens. The worst that can happen is you don’t meet anyone for the time being.”

For a moment, she wondered precisely why she hadn’t let one of the others set her up as they so desperately wanted to - perhaps a little too desperately. Then the part of her that made sure the rest was placed under strict rules took the opportunity to remind her of how odd her profession was. How would she explain the bruises around her neck? The salt in her shoes? The not-so-red blood stains on her clothes?

“I suppose I could consider it.” Scarlett would probably be her best bet; she was less likely to make a dreadful choice. And maybe she’d even manage to find someone who didn’t find her whole career some form of freaky. “They have a running joke that I should be with one of them. His name’s Dean but he’s not interested and I supposed I’m not either. He and I wouldn’t fit together, not with the way we are. Besides, I’m way out of his age range.”

To be entirely honest, the thief had no idea what that conversation was even about. But it was too much fun to just stop it now, as it seemed like she was just playing along - which only made it even funnier - and Eric wondered how far they were able to push it until either of them was breaking out into laughter. Or actually started to believe what the other said.

“Though I wouldn’t exactly cover it up,” Eric answered with a glance at the floor. Even that looked like it was more expensive than his whole apartment. “I mean, it looks too good. If you spill any…well, uncertain, strange liquids, I’m sure it will be easy to be cleaned. What I’m worrying about, though, are those shining white pillars.” He blindly pointed behind him. “How do they keep these things so clean?”

“Well, then, maybe you’ll have to surprise me someday…” Her smile became a grin and she lifted the glass to her lips. It was oddly comforting to have someone who didn’t know all that much. Whether it was the good, the bad or the ugly.

“There are certain things I’ve never really had time for in my line of work. My colleagues are constantly pestering me about it too.”

Someday. A promising mention. He couldn’t say he was so curious to hope to know more. Drama was overrated. He had seen his share, been part of it, and used to seek it out. Now he preferred to avoid it or ignore it. The way this woman held herself, it would seem she knew how to live with the past. “And what is it that they pester you about if I may be so bold to ask?” He sat up a little. A petty fight with friends, love triangles, family issues, and fighting over who got the front seat. He had done it all from the simplest to the extreme. What could it be he wondered?
