Home sweet home
Meanwhile we got back in Belgium. It feels good to be back in Belgium but I miss Croatia a little bit. The walks with the beautiful view, all the churches that wake you up, everyday’s basket with the boys, listening to the sea organ, watching the sunset and the weather. The weather in Croatia is way better than here in Belgium. It sucks to go back to school but that is part of life.
Last few days
This internship is coming to an end. I am glad I took part in this project. Because I learned a lot here. Especially at the new campus. Because the tasks there were mainly hardware oriented. I learned how to update mac’s, install printers, make computers faster, making a switch out of a router, ... . I will also miss this place because the old town is really beautiful. I'd certainly recommend a visit to Zadar.
We got our boat license!
We went on a walk with our supervisors. I thought we were going to the new campus of the university of Zadar. But I was wrong. They took us to an other department of the school. Once we were inside someone started explaining what the place was. He said that they have simulations here. Yes you guessed it a boat simulation aswell. Wich was pretty amazing in my opinion. It looked pretty real. They also said they were planning to make the same simulation but then in 4D.
Welcome to paradise
The boys and I went exploring this weekend. We started the day off by walking around in the old town of Zadar. After that we walked next to the sea where we hanged out a bit. The weather was perfect. We sat down and watched the sunset. I think it is the most beautiful sunset there is. We got a little bit hungry so we went to the restaurant Burgerfest. Where they had delicious burgers. After our belly’s where filled we went to basket together.
The first two days of work!
Yesterday morning was our first day of work. We went to the University of Zadar were we met our tutors for the following weeks. The school itself is spread over the city. Two of us work at the main campus and me and another student work at the new campus. There we got a few tasks to fill our time with.
On monday we went to the basketball game in Zadar. Were we watched KK Zadar against GKK Sibenik. In the beginning it was a verry close match but in the end Zadar won with 103 - 76.
First two days!
We arrived in zadar yesterday. Me and the Zadar team left Belgium yesterday morning at 10:15 am. The first flight was from Belgium to Vienna. In Vienna we had some time to eat and to rest up a bit from our flight. Our next flight was from Vienna to Zagreb in Croatia. We had to run to catch our next flight. That was from Zagreb to Split. There we had to hire a car to drive from Split to the old town of Zadar. After a hour drive we arrived in Zadar. First we had to drop off our bags at the appartement. After setteling we went to a restaurant were we filled our belly’s with dilicious food.
The second day we went to Krka were we could walk around the beautiful waterfall. It was a 5 km walk
Almost there!
It is almost time... within a week I will be heading to Croatia. I am a little bit nervous. Because we have to take 3 different airplanes to get there, guess what I don’t like airplanes. But the real downside is that I will have to miss my friends and family. Still I am hyped to meet the people of my internship and to explore the city. I am happy and would like to thank my school to give me this oppurtunity to go abroad.
About Zadar
Zadar is the oldest continuously-inhabited Croatian city. It is 3000 years old. The city proper covers 25 km2 with a population of around 75,082.
Zadar is well known for its most beautiful sunset in the world. The lighting elements of the Greeting to the Sun produce a marvelous , exceptionally impressive show of light.
Zadar also had a Sea Organ. It’s stairs extend for about 70 meters along the coast, under them at the lowest sea-tide level, 35 pipes of different lenght, diameter and tilts were built. This creates a place for relaxation, contemplation and conversation while listening to an endless concert of mystic harmonies of the Orchestra of Nature.
My First post!
Hi, My name is Rutger. I am 19 years old. I Live in Belgium. Within a few weeks I am leaving Belgium to go on an internship abroad. My destination will be Croatia in the city Zadar.
I will be working at the University of Zadar for 3 weeks. It is a whole new adventure for me because I have never been in Croatia. I look forward to meeting my future colleagues. The school has around 515 employees and 5800 students.
In my spare time i will be exploring the city. I have a few ideas what I want to do there. For example, watching the old buildings. Checking out the light show and the sea organ. They also have a soccer stadium named Stanovi.
