After over a year of procrastinating and getting distracted with life, my sister and I have finally finished our passion project of making our favorite fanfic into a book! It's over 500 pages of mystery, murder, and romance and I'm so happy to have it in my hands.

Fanbinding When the Tides Held the Moon by Venessa Kelley

I feel like everyone in this fandom should know about @vkelleyart’s art—it’s absolutely breathtaking in every iteration. Somehow, this gift to fandom is also a brilliant writer (she’s overflowing with talent, right?!?) When the Tides Held the Moon is absolutely gorgeous on both fronts, is one of my favourite fics, and was a story I yearned to bind.

Simon Snow needs a job, though most would argue he needs a friend. When he finally lands work as a day labourer at Mage’s Traveling Carnival of Curiosities, he’s suddenly got the pick of the rarest company in Blackpool, including a bearded lady, a pretty contortionist, The Tattooed Australian, and a slightly unhinged fire-breather. With friends like these, sideshow life would be interesting enough, but everything changes after he comes face-to-face with the mysterious and beautiful occupant in the last tent.

We started by picking fonts: Garamond for the body text and the lovely The Last Font I’m Wasting On You for the title and chapters.

We did a kettle stitch, a rounded spine, and headbands!

This was my first time using bookcloth, and I’m never binding a book without it again!!! I’m swooning 😂

The paper is, as always, from the lovely EllibrioRojoBCN (Etsy shop linked).

And the art. It’s all Venessa and it brings the fic to life on the page.

I’m in love with this fic, this artist, this story, and this human. What a gift it is, to see your Simon when I close my eyes 💖💖💖

Access to deleted fanfiction.

I recently saw a post here on Tumblr that said that when a fanfic gets deleted from Archiveofourown.com or Fanfiction.net (or any other website you can think of) you will never be able to find this again. But let me tell you… this isn’t true.

Nothing ever leaves the web!

I’m going to be using @jbsforever as example. Hope you don’t mind! And if you do just tell me and I’ll delete this post.

Anyway, jbsforever recently deleted all of her fics on Ao3. This is how her page looks like right now:

As you can see there are only 3 fics available. She had a lot more than that. Luckily for us, she’s putting them on again! (THANK YOU SO MUCH 😘). But there were still 16 fanfictions available that we can’t access through her page anymore.

All you will want to do is open google.com, type in the name of the writer (or the name of the fanfiction if you remember) + the website that their fanfiction was published on.

So for example: jbsforever archive of our own

Now you would have the normal search results appear, like here above ^^.

Normally you would click on the words that are in blue to go to their page. But this will bring you to how the page is currently installed. So we will be working with the words under there, the ones that appear in green. You can see a little arrow pointing downwards at the end of it.

Click on this arrow and a little box with the word “cached” will appear. You will want to click on this. Guess what her page looks like now?

TADA!!!!! 16 fanfictions and their names for you to enjoy. Unfortunately if you click on one of the stories while on this (rediscovered?) page, you will get an error:

But don’t worry! All you have to do, is take the title of the story you want to read. Go through the exact same process you just did with the author’s name, but just type their name and the title into google now (author + title). And you will have access to their deleted stories!

You will have to google each chapter individually (so type in google: author + title + chapter of choice), but honestly that’s a small price to pay for having access to a goldmine of fanfiction!

when you are on the internet, and you happen upon a ship you did not previously know existed, and you think to yourself “lol why the hell would anyone ship that”, and you go into the ao3 tag for a laugh just to see what the fanfiction ecosystem is like for this absurd new rarepair you have discovered, and you see a fic and think without a trace of irony “hm i kind of wanna read that”. that is your last chance to get out. your make or break moment. you are icarus and your wings are starting to smoulder. you need to make a decision there and then about who you are, what kind of person you’re going to be. because once you click that link there’s no going back for you. and that is a promise.
