The Virginia Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Commission dedicated and unveiled a new monument highlighting Virginia’s – and America’s – African American history on September 22, 2021 on Brown’s Island. The newly constructed Emancipation and Freedom Monument, was commissioned and designed by artist and sculptor, Thomas Jay Warren, of Oregon. It features two 12-foot bronze figures – a male and female holding an infant – representing those newly freed from slavery

I haven't been back in Richmond long, but I've already tried out several breakfast spots in the West End. I overheard a server at City Diner talking about how a customer had told her he liked McLean's more. "Then how come your ass is always down here?" she replied.

I have now tried both and for me at least, City Diner wins. Nothing bad to say about McLean's. Counter service was speedy and friendly. Portion size was comparable. I just thought the food at the City Diner tasted better.
