One of the lessons in Surah Yusuf is how a parent's good upbringing leaves a mark on a child, even if that child loses their way later on.

When the brothers claimed Yusuf was eaten by a wolf, they brought his shirt stained with animal blood to their father. But they didn’t tear it, which instantly gave away their lie.

They could have ripped the shirt, roughed themselves up, but deceiving people was never a skill they properly developed because their own father was a prophet; someone who literally can't lie.

It shaped them so deeply that even in betrayal, they didn’t know how to actually tell a lie convincingly.

Good upbringing doesn’t guarantee a child never makes a mistake, but sometimes it leaves fingerprints even on the mistakes themselves.
