-Ch.3-
After waiting for a while, you finally arrived at your apartment floor. The steel door slowly slides open after its first chime. Stepping out to the hall, you strode down through the hallway while rummaging through your bag for your keys.
With a gentle click, you pushed open the door before quickly shutting it behind after getting inside. The automatic entrance light greets you home, “Luigi! I’m home!” An exhausted sigh escapes your lips while desperately trying to get your boots off, eventually kicking it off from your feet.
Your head still feels light and fuzzy, cursing yourself deep inside that you should have taken it easy with the wine. Strudding down to your small living room, clumsily try to locate the lightswitch on the wall.
“Urgh, wheres..this stupid lightswitch.”
Click.
The living room finally illuminated, but it seemed like something caught your breath. Something that isn’t right, something that makes you stand still at the living room entrance. “Alright, I still need sleep,” dismissing what you just saw earlier in between flicks of a light, yet the uncomfortable feeling still lingers.
Tossing your bag onto the couch, as you keep looking around to make sure nothing could sneak up on you. Your hand grabs the remote before turning on the TV, letting the noise from whatever program it is currently playing fill the silent apartment.
Standing still while letting out a heavy sigh, trying to calm yourself down before going to the kitchen for a fresh cup of water. Small hiss from the cabinet hinge makes you cringed, you should check that later before the door falls off. Pour yourself some water from the fridge, frequently glancing towards the living room behind your back.
“Hey.”
That activates your flight or fight response, putting all your energy to your wrist as you try to punch anything behind you who whispers in your ear. As you turn around, no one is there. There's no one behind you. Your chest already feels tight because knowing there's someone— or something in the house beside you and your cat.
“Alright– nope.”
You said putting your hand up to the air, before running to the living room as fast as you can. Quickly snatching your bag from the couch.
Yet everything suddenly turned black. You feel like you just blinked, no– you didn’t blinked or close your eyes. The living room light turned off by itself, as well as the TV… leaving yourself in the dark. Finding yourself swallowed by fear, as you feel someone walking closer from behind.
“No need to be afraid.”
As much as the male voice sounds gentle and reassuring, well– in this situation words aren't reassuring enough. You cursed yourself once again because you couldn’t move an inch to run and make distance from the danger.
You felt his cold finger trancing your shoulder before guiding itself to your waist. Before you know it, your back bumped onto the person’s broad chest–
Not really the focus now–
His other hand gently slither slowly to grip your neck, pushing your body to lean back to his chest. His thumb slowly caressing your nape, “Shh...Easy there, doll,” he pointed to your rising panic the moment he got you in his arms.
His thumb traces slowly against your side, a quiet attempt to sooth you. Yet his movement makes you more scared. His movement is a silent reminder that you are indeed not alone.
His hand shifted from the nape of your neck slightly, guiding your chin to look at him. The high difference leaves you no choice but to let his hand guide you to meet his gaze.
In the dark, there's nothing more visible than his purple eyes…similiar to the one you saw before.
Your eyes snapped open, it feels like being doused by cold water in the cold morning. Small beads of sweat trickle down on your forehead, closing your eyes in frustration by the dream.
You hate seeing those purple eyes, yet it always haunts you when you fall asleep.
“You okay, auntie?”
You opened your eyes after hearing Eunwoo’s worried question. Finally opening your eyes to fully scan your surroundings, still covered in a warm blanket on the couch of your brother’s family apartment. Your nephew is still in his pajamas sitting on the ground in front of her, watching a cartoon serial on the TV.
You shake your head, showing a small smile to reassure him that you are fine. “Don’t you have to get ready for school?” you question the small gremlin who continues watching his cartoon show.
“Five more minutes.”
You ruffle his hair before getting up and start folding the blanket, stretching your body as everything feels stiff after sleeping in a folded position on the couch. Opening the curtain to let the sun get into the room, the early sun cast a gentle golden glow across the city.
“Alright, don’t be late to get ready.”
You walk past Eunwoo to get ready first, so you can go back to your apartment while taking him to school. While thinking if you should go home, alone? to your apartment after that dream?
Kinda stupid if you go there alone, because the dream is already giving you bad omens. Yet, also kinda stupid if you are so scared to go home because of a dream..
After that incident, everyone seems to be focusing on the bright side of it. The guy survived the fall and called it a miracle, it became trending news because he survived a fall estimate above 20 feet.
Not sure there's a small chance of survival from any statistical possibilities, yet in your eyes that man wasn’t supposed to survive. But you are so sure that man somehow ‘survived’ because of something that isn’t logical.
Taking a quick warm shower to refresh your body in the morning, putting on your sister in law clothes that you snatched from their wardrobe— you will give it back anyway.
Seeing Eunwoo already dressed in his uniform and eating his breakfast with his mother checking all essentials in his backpack.
Sitting beside your nephew while taking a slice of warm toast, before adding the scramble egg and strawberry jam on top of it. Earning a judging face from someone who eats his cereal peacefully, before you just ruined his morning by making that, “Eww, that’s weird!”
You just shrug and take a bite in front of him before licking the jam of your thumb, “It's delicious, that’s what matters,” clearly doesn’t care about his judgement of what you choose to eat.
“Sometimes I wonder if you are a child trapped in an adult body, ___.”
Your sister in law chuckles at how entertaining it is seeing you both always have something to say to pissed each other. “Auntie is just childish!” her son said while munching on his last bit of soggy cereal.
“Well, you are still a child.”
After putting the dishes, you and Eunwoo said goodbye to his mother. Your brother already left half of an hour earlier before you awake, so you two will take a bus to his school.
The air is much colder than yesterday, luckily you both dressed warmly as the last night weather forecast suggested. Holding his small hand while waiting for the bus, the bus station is packed with a lot of people since it’s already a working hour.
The day was already busy before it even started, the bus engine whined as the driver pulled up to their bus stop. Eunwoo carefully steps inside followed by you tapping your transportation card to the device in the bus before your eyes searching for an empty spot.
Every seat seems taken, so you hold Eunwoo while the other hand holds onto the hanging hand grip. The driver closed the door as the last passenger got inside and the bus proceeded to the next stop.
“Excuse me,”
Locating the person calling for someone, to make sure the person is not talking to you– before your eyes meet with him. You didn’t expect to meet him outside of the company, “Oh Sir.Kim, didn’t expect to meet you here,” you bowed your head while greeting him.
“No need for formalities, please call me Namjoon.”
“Who are you? Are you ___’s boyfriend?” The five year old boy put his hand on his hips, squinting his eyes to Namjoon as he interrogated the man who dared to strike a conversation with his auntie.
Your hand quickly clamped over Eunwoo’s mouth, while letting out a nervous laughter. This menace really said his thoughts without thinking. “Sorry about that, my nephew can be quite a brat sometimes,” You said glaring at the little menace.
Eunwoo just pouted his lips, yet still glared at the man. Like he’s saying, ‘Watch what you will be saying around me, mister.’
Namjoon smiles, showing his dimples– which makes him much more charming than he already is. “It’s okay. Anyway, here let you both take my seat,” the man slowly stood up and gently put his hand on your waist. Ready to catch you any moment if there's a sudden stop of movement.
Couldn’t deny his offer as the man was already guiding you to sit, so you obey and take Eunwoo to sit on your lap. “Thank you, uh-”
“You like him, auntie?”
You closed your eyes in embarrassment before glaring at your nephew who was already smiling like an innocent child. Clearly enjoying himself to tease you in front of a fine man– not to say, your superior too.
“He’s really cute,” you glance up at Namjoon as he gently strokes Eunwoo’s hair, making the child look away embarrassed by the compliment. Despite the kind gesture from the man, Eunwoo still glared at him nonetheless.
“Taking him to the school I assume?” Namjoon asked while putting his other hand inside his coat pocket. You nod your head while fixing your nephew's hat, “It’s one way to my apartment so,” earning a small hum from him.
“Could I perhaps accompany you? I have nothing better to do today.”
Well.. that’s unexpected.
Your mouth opened for a second, before closing it again. Feeling that you should play all coy before finally agreeing in the end, because that's what people usually ended up doing. But you remember you just had a bad dream about going into your apartment alone, so..
“I mean, sure! I have nothing to do either today,” hearing your permission makes his lips curled into a gentle smile.
“Well, I guess we will find our way to go along together today.”
You three finally arrived at the final stop, bidding small thanks to the bus driver before continuing your way to the school with Namjoon. Holding your nephew on your right while walking side by side with your coworker.
“So, sorry to ask this but.. I never noticed you before in the company. Are you new?” Namjoon kept his pace but his attention averted to you after you finished your question.
The moment you knew that this man was lying at your first meeting, after eating with Talita you both parted ways because she needed to get back to attend her work with other authors that day. Leaving you with a one hundred and one question about Namjoon.
You are always curious. That's your perks as a writer. Thinking about what was the reason that he needed to lie about himself to you, at your first meeting? While thinking to yourself at the lobby entrance, you find yourself seeing him with Mr.Seo entering the same car.
He must have an important relation to Mr.Seo, they seem close too.
“Or are you Mr.Seo’s grandchild or something?”
Namjoon choked by your burst of assumption, he let out a small chuckle. “No, no…I’m not his grandchild,” his chuckle died down yet he couldn’t help but keep his smile because how silly it is thinking that he’s Mr.Seo grandson.
“I just recently came back from attending the process of opening another branch in another country.”
You squinted your eyes, yet nodded your head remembering Mr.Seo called you last year before releasing your book. Mr.Seo said that they might need to reschedule the release of her book because of something urgent that he needed to attend.
“But, he’s like a family figure to me,” Namjoon said, turning his attention to see other children already huddling with their friends in front of the school gate. Your eyes caught Eunwoo’s friends already waving their hands towards him and calling his name.
Eunwoo waved back before turning towards you, “I’ll get going then, Auntie!” he said while running towards his friend.
“Be careful around him, Auntie!” You sigh moving your hand to shoo him away, he really needs to be taught to not always say what he is thinking.
Now leaving yourself with Namjoon standing in front of the school gate, “So, how's the other branch going through?” trying to keep the conversation going while walking away from the school area.
The taller man walked beside you, “It’s doing alright. Because of the branch, there's a lot of local authors submitting their works,” he explained about the branch's successful opening feed from local authors, how their company helped them to publish their first work for free.
“Mr.Seo is really amazing huh?”
“Yeah, he is.”
The CEO of your publishing company never hesitates about giving first free publishing for local authors who want their work to be published.
When your first book is published, the company is the one who handles it for free. From editing, giving your book a proper cover– everything. You have been saving your daily salary that year, just for publishing your first work, yet they offer it for free. You never were so thankful that day.
After years publishing your book between shifts of your previous workplace, you fully became one of the authors under the company.
“Uhm..where are we going again?” His sudden question snapped you back into reality that you two don't really have a specific destination. Now you both just look at each other while both brains are trying to make suggestions.

Her sculpted back exposed through the backless dress she wears. Lifted her arms delicately, letting the piece of silk cloth fall from her shoulder effortlessly hanging on her elbow. The gentle fold makes it look like a cascading waterfall. Head slightly tilted back, she looks stunning.
Her eyes flutter open, seeing him through the camera lenses as the man keeps his focus on the set despite her daring stare.
Turning herself around to face the camera, arms slowly hugging her figure making the silk cloth hugging her sculpted figure. Tilting her chin, sharpening her expression as the camera finally shuttered, taking the picture of her.
“Alright everyone, good job for today!”
Her manager cheered as everyone let out a triumph of happy cheer after a hard working session for next month's magazine. Yet a certain young man is still in his own world with the camera in hand. Taehyung stood still in his place while focusing on checking all the shots he took earlier.
“Not bad, we actually got a lot of good shots."
Her finger gently caresses his shoulder, before putting her chin on top of it while glancing onto his camera. “You always say that. It’s like the picture you all took never has the same quality,” her slender finger gently slid across his camera’s screen, scrolling through her own pictures.
He lets her scroll through the picture as much as she wants, he also checks each one she slides. There's a lot of pics that need to be discarded, so it wouldn’t confuse him later which one needs to be edited and fits on the magazine.
“Shouldn’t you change? We need to talk after this.”
Raeun, the well known magazine model, let out a sigh while gently putting her index finger on his jaw. Guiding his attention to look at her making their face an inch apart, letting his eyes settle on her midnight ones.
“Wouldn’t you look at me first before I change, Taetae?”
Everyone in the set always thought they both are in a secret relationship because how oblivious he could be with her. Yet, he could sense her mischievous intent behind those innocent facade she played. “Go change,” he coldly repeated, earning a grin from the girl.
“Such a killjoy as always,” Raeun let herself off him, going to her private changing room. Taehyung didn’t budge from his spot, still blankly looking at the room where the model is now.
A crew of her gave a gentle pat on his shoulder, earning his attention, “Dude! I saw a couple of your shots today, never disappointing."
Taehyung’s lip slowly curved at the crew’s compliment, showing all his pearly teeth like a child basking in every word of the compliment. “Really? Thank you, man. I still need a lot of improvement tho,” the crew patted his back, encouraging him to continue his hard work.
After talking with her team about the upcoming project, he excused himself to meet Raeun in her private room. With the gentle shut, he let out a small groan in annoyance that he had to deal with her.
“Oh, Taetae…,” her soft voice coo at him makes him want to bash her head open, her midnight orbs slowly tuned onto purple hues as he glares at the model. “You're always such a hassle, aren't you?” Raeun already changed into her casual clothes, sitting on her large couch. Sipping her tea as she lazily flipped through the magazine filled with her photos.
“Just tell me why you are doing this.”
“Because I wanted to be who I am, Tae.”
Humans never really understand what she meant about that…in the way her species would.
The model carelessly threw the magazine away from her sight, “I want to be known,” she said, emphasizing the last words as she looked at the vanity mirror beside her. The small light decorated the border on the frame, showing her reflection in the middle of the spotlight.
“You want a spotlight that bad?”
Raeun let out a scoff of annoyance, before snapping her attention towards her photographer. “Am I that disgusting now to you, Tae?” She brings herself closer to him, standing in front of him while her eyes turned soft and he could see pain behind them.
“Am I such a traitor to you all? that you don’t even call me by my name?”
“You know the cost of agreeing with that bastard,” Taehyung looked at her unwavering. He already warned her about all the possibilities that would happen to their existence if that bastard plan worked. “They will be creating war between this peace,” Raeun just looked at him with disappointment that somehow this man failed to understand her.
“I know, I understand—” She tried to grab his hand, but he yanked it off from her grip. On his side, her touch is nothing but a scorching hot of betrayal.
“If you were…, you would never agree to whatever his vision is.”
Raeun's eyes widened at the way he slammed the door in front of her face. She never saw him so..angry at her like this. “Just so you all wait, his vision is bringing freedom for us,” Raeun said glaring at the door behind her.
Angrily passed through everyone in the building, every step he takes the more that he realizes he is angry— no. Furious. The glass door sensors sense his figure as it slowly slides open, letting him out from the hell out of the building.
The wind hits his face, messing his soft curls while the city view greets his vision. Phasing through the shadow from the city, he finally made it in front of their home. Barging in without even greeting his brothers who were already sensing his anger before he got inside the house.
“Did she really join them?” his blonde teammate asked, who is currently playing with the youngest one. Taehyung just glared at him, earning a small chuckle from Jimin after seeing his reaction.
“He looks like a teenager who got a really bad breakup,” Jungkook, the youngest, sassily calls him out without sparing him a glance.
“Don’t make me pop one of your arteries, Jeon.”
“Alright! No one is popping an artery today!” A high pitched scolding came from upstairs.
A beautiful girl, beautifully drawn in the book, with lights circling her figure as she is surrounded by gods and goddesses at that time. As a living being, she thought the gods and goddesses gave life to her as such a gift.
The next page is another illustration of an angry god seeing a titan steal something and give it to a man, a source of life that only god and goddess have. Fire.
Anger burns, the god’s selfishness doesn’t like how the man is thriving upon receiving such a gift. Her existence is nothing but for a harsh lesson that the god bestows upon the man for receiving something that should belong to the gods.
Flipping through another page, the girl now is in another someone's arms as they both clothed in white. Seems like she is married to someone, and there's a lot of guests attending the ceremony. A hand illustration with a vessel in it shines in front of her eyes.
Someone has given her a vessel as a gift for her marriage. Yet, it came with a warning. The only gift that had the strict and clear warning from the god himself, it stated clearly that the girl should not open the vessel. Not even a single peek through the lid.
“Do not open it.”
Flipping through the book, the girl sat in front of the vessel with her expression filled with curiosity and desperation to fill her interest in knowing what lay inside the vessel. It seems like it keeps calling her each day passed by, turned into months and years.
The thought of fleeting curiosity soon vanished, yet it got bigger and swallowed her whole.
Finally, she cracked open the vessel, what lay underneath the lead burst out. Freeing themself from being contained for decades. The illustration showed the girl's shocked expression as the murky smokes that shaped like a shadowy demon break free from the vessel.
With that the world became what is known now. Tainted. Humans have to bear the consequences for accepting something that isn’t theirs in the first place. Sadly, the answer to keep living within this tainted vessel, is trapped inside the vessel the girl holds.
Hope. The last spirit that is trapped behind.
As the man in this world consumed by sins. The top ones, basking in their title and prosperity while keeping blind what the other lives below them. Poverty, starvation, miseries. Clashing between those, each side fighting their voice without the understanding to listen to the other side.
Men all bloodied, fighting each other with all their strength to vocalize what they believed is right. Nothing in this world fits the concept of ‘Right’. There's always two sides of a coin, yet men are always caught in delirium just because their side, once, has once appeared in a single toss.
The next illustration appeared a shadow in the middle of the men's war. It stands in the middle of hundreds of bodies, countless puddles of blood and broken weapons. The war gave birth to something that isn’t human because it’s violence, hatred, even desperation.
No record of their first real appearance, but they're an adaptive creature. The kings started to get familiar with their race, they called Umbra in that decade. A shadow.
Yet, am still a man. Humans are greedy creatures, and being greedy is humane…
Hmm..
The shadows became their slave to have more blood to be shed. Many bodies to be tossed around the empty filled, like they don't even matter. Became the immortal warrior in endless battles for the king's ego and pride.
As time progressed, they became tired of serving on the battlefield and human sins. The shadow suddenly vanished from human civilization.
After the last illustration of the shadow slowly vanishing away, your hand flipped through the next page only to be greeted by all the story author and artist credit. Letting out a hum of uninterested dismission to the book, you put back the short illustration book back to its place.
Since you both don't really have anything to do or place to go, with a sudden panic you blurt out to visit the nearest book store. Such a lame suggestion to try impressing your superior for your first hangout.
“I should try to socialize much more,” embarrassedly putting your forehead to the row of book spines.
Since your job now doesn’t require such a fixed environment to work in, you rather be all bundled up inside your room while writing. That comes with a disadvantage when you’re meeting with new people, you are not the person to be seen with tons of interesting places to go in mind.
“This book is interesting,” your body feels like you have been zapped after hearing Namjoon’s voice suddenly appear near you. Straightening your posture while looking at the man holding a white hard cover book while smiling at you.

-Ch.2-.
Attention residents, this is the national weather service with your daily weather forecast.
Citizens already all snuggle up beneath their warm embrace of their homes or some of them already finishing the last day of errands ready to throw the towel of the day and rest up..
Temperatures are expected to continue decreasing overnight, resulting in much colder temperatures in the morning the next day. Estimate their lowest point for the day between 4.00 and 7.00 AM.
The sun is already down for the day, now it’s time for the city's skylights to work with the moon to keep the world from darkness. The capital city lights are filled to the corner of Seoul crevices. Following what the news said, the small breeze of wind started to feel colder than usual.
“I already tell you what I know!! Please!!”
The poor girl said gasping between steps she takes, frantically trying to escape the doom following her from behind. There's only some street lamps that illuminate a small corner of the alley, which makes this situation worse. She threw everything that she could find in that alley to give her time from meeting the end.
Thank you for your attention, citizens. Stay warm and have a safe evening.
After peaking behind her shoulders, the phantom that had been chasing her for all of this time was nowhere to be seen. Her terrified face slowly felt more at ease by the sight of it, yet her legs kept running so she could get out of that alley.
Wrong. She should have known better for expecting such things.
Sharp metallic rattle cut through the air. In one second she could feel the ground beneath her feet, now she couldn’t feel anything except his gift coiling around her neck.
A length of chain glinting in the dim light, It coiled around her with frightening precision, circling around her waist and winding around her neck. Link by link, the chain hissed as the coil wrapped around her tighten making the trapped one scream as she could feel all her bones start to get crushed by the chain.
“Stop!! Please!!”
The man sighs in annoyance hearing the girl sobs for remission again and again. Above her trapped figure, there's the phantom that has been chasing her. He crunched low with effortless grace as his heels balanced on the narrow metal link.
“You know…, among our species,” The man stood up straight effortlessly on the chain, before jumping onto one of the roofs beneath him. “You are the most pathetic coward I’ve seen,” the man finally revealed himself in the light. A phantom dressed in a charcoal waistcoat and matching trousers, he looked polished and attractive despite having a vertical scar on his right eye.
“Pathetic? Please, who is really the pathetic one here?” The girl let out a chuckle like she was losing it, “Me or you all- who stuck their head beneath this society like a stupid wombat-” her insult got cutted by the chains coiled tighter on her body as the metal links hissed under his influence, the phantom in front of her doesn’t seem impressed.
He takes a small step towards her, his hand roughly gripping her jaw making the trapped phantom hiss.
“Pick. Your. Way. Carefully.”
Each word he said filled with emphasis, beneath his gaze she felt really small. She can’t give away what information she has, she refuses to be disowned by her own master- yet every hiss and writhe from the chain wrapping around her body…as she stood there held captive by Min Yoongi himself..
She will be squished until she popped like a balloon by his own gift.
“Still..being stupid are we?” She felt a part of her ribs snapped as he let the coiling metal tighten again, showing his patience is getting thinner and thinner as the time passed handling her.
Gritting her teeth as the pain became unbearable for her to hold, harshly jerked his hand away from touching her jaw before spitting blood at his face.
“Fuck you.”
….
Piercing whistle created by a swift moving chain from behind her, before her sharp cry ripped from her throat beat the sound of chains pierce through her leg. Blood splatter everywhere. The pain is excruciating, her legs gave up. Now she is kneeling in front of him while screaming to the torture he put her through.
“...Aside from pathetic,” wiping the blood offwith the back of his hand from his cheek, “You are loud and annoying too,” He sneered as he looked down at her sobbing figure. Taking the chain into his grip and tug harshly making the girl beg and sob louder.
“Please– I’m sorry!! I–!!”
Tug.
“Not the answer I’m looking for, C’mon.”
The girl could be crying, sobbing, and plead in pain as if he would give a single fuck about what she feel.
“YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!! HE WILL—!!!”
Tug.
Each movement was small, but it drew a sharp gasp from her. Sharp pain shot through her body as each link he tugged from her flesh, every link he pulled will be coated by her blood. “Try again,” He said slowly, kneeling to her level, as the phantom in front of him was already on her hands and knees for him to stop.
Her body trembling, her tears all dried up. Shaking her head as the pain makes her vision start to blur.
“No?” he ask while raising his hand to continue his torture, but the phantom broke out into crying mess, start begging him to stop, planting her knees onto the gravel below them.
“Nononono, not that– I’m just–p-Please stopstopstop-”
Yoongi leaned his cheek onto his other hand, and the corner of his lip started to curve a little, clearly enjoying how pathetic she is begging like that. The girl sobs all trembling beneath his gaze, “What did he offer you newborn, to be all over his boots and dick like this?” he scoffed at her blind royalty.
“Hyung, they finished the job.”
Another phantom merged from the shadow of the alley wearing a warm black coat. Yoongi peaked through his shoulder, seeing one of his teammates leaning back to the wall while casually flipping through his book.
“Did they destroy the evidence?”
“Yup, and some Carni accidentally notice the transformation of a newborn.”
He couldn’t believe his ears when his friend reported about today’s mission. “A human.. saw a transformation…of a newborn?” his hand whipped his hair in frustration leaving a strand hanging down to his face. His face turned sour but somehow not surprised.
“Didn’t we agree to not kill anyone? Did they forget?” Yoongi sighs in annoyance knowing another problem appears after another. He glanced down to the phantom in front of him still frozen in pain beneath his gaze. Sometimes he just wants to lay down in his room and enjoy the comfortable bed he just bought. It seems like the world really hates seeing him enjoy his phantom life.
“The guy jumped off the building, pissing his pants after Jungkook snatched his briefcase.”
“...Well…,shit.”
Humans are…something nowadays..
He sighs before pushing himself to stand, facing his teammate, before yanking his chains through the poor phantom’s legs, letting the girl's sharp pained cry tear through the alley. Ignoring the loud thud from the body behind him, Yoongi wiped his hand with a small handkerchief from his vest pocket.
“So we now have another matter to catch up? Will this ever fucking end?”
Finally his teammate looks at him, he always wonders why this man always prioritizes his book over anything when he’s in his zone…
“Sucks to be a phantom I guess?” Yoongi scoffed at him, “Yeah..right.”
A small dragging sound of gravel rubbing between her skin, as she tried to drag her body far from both men to escape. Bite her lips and swallow her pain as she drag herself further away from her spot, leaving a trail of blood.
Yet, the key word here is tried to.
Her eyes widened at the sudden piercing pain tore through her chest, she now tasted metallic taste on her tongue. The taste of blood is much stronger than before.
Her head slowly looked down to her chest, what she saw was terrifying. Through a gaping hole through her chest, she could see Yoongi’s leg through the hole where her heart should be. A high piercing wailing sound escaped her lips. Yoongi held the phantom unbeating heart, before he crushed it within his palm.
Both men phase through the shadow of the alley, as the body of another phantom slumped down onto the gravel before slowly disintegrating to ashes in seconds. Leaving the alley clean as if nothing happened.
Did you know?
Most living creatures have one thing in common! Such as us humans and many animals around us, they all have the same organs registered as their vital to survive!
It’s brain and heart.
The brain acts like the CEO of the body, it sends nerve signals throughout the body to keep it alive! Imagine it like the power plant that sends electricity through the town to keep it going. The brain is like the body's control center. It helps us think, learn, remember, and move. It also tells other parts of the body what to do, including breathing and blinking.
The heart is the logistic department of the body, why? Because this strong hunk of muscle never gets a day off from pumping blood throughout the body. From all parts of the body, entering from the right side to the lungs to exchange the CO2 in the blood with O2, after the blood rich with oxygen it is pumped back to the left side of the heart before pumped back to the whole body to spread the oxygen supply!
Whoo– such an explanation right?!
Either way, the brain and heart work together to keep the body alive–
Your hand stopped the video, gagged by the explanation, while slowly looking at your nephew looking back at you with a small smile before asking again her question.
“What is the CEO and logistics department? Do they really have electric power and pump blood like a superhero?”
Well, this little guy is really focusing on the wrong section of the explanation— and he is still too young to learn this, his brain couldn’t even handle his own thoughts per sometimes.
“Alright! Bed time!” You said picking your early five years old nephew as he let out a shriek of thrill by the sudden swing of being picked up. “But! I’m not sleepy yet!” Eunwoo protests yet snuggle deeper into your arms, clutching onto your shirt.
His parents adore you two interacting through the kitchen counter while cooking together. “No, No. You have to go to bed,” You said, putting down Eunwoo as he pouted looking up at you and his small fish clenching, trying to look intimidating.
“No, I don't want to.”
You squint your eyes and he copies your movement, “Oh…is that so? Then the monster should kidnap you to bed!” Seeing your movement wanting to grab him, Eunwoo let out a shriek of small cry before followed by small laughter as he ran wobbly to the kitchen. The small clever goblin hides behind his mother’s legs so you can’t get him.
“Hahah! The monster can’t kidnap me to bed now!” He declared, pointing at you who stopped at the kitchen entrance.
“Huh, you think so?”
Eunwoo stuck his tongue out to mock you. His mother picked him up, “What your aunt says is wrong, baby. You need sleep right now,” hearing that his mother sided with his enemy makes his face fall flat and you let out a small yes of victory.
“Buttt, mamaaaa—” Despite him whining in his mother's arms, after turning off the stove and giving the rest of the task to her husband and sister in law, she walked to his bedroom to put him to sleep.
You start to take the pot to the counter where they will be eating and talk over some wine for the night. “You know, I’m glad that day I keep pushing you to marry her,” You said to your brother, while he just rolled his eyes yet he couldn’t hide the small smile appearing on his lips.
"Well, thank you for being such a great wingman.”
“You couldn’t even bag a diamond without your sister's help, so my pleasure,” You said as his acknowledgement boosted your ego a little because he never admits about getting help from anyone else when it comes to dating beside yours.
Oh? You are in a relationship?
…Nah, not even once– beside, the coach didn’t play right?—
After setting up the table and your brother finishing the last touch of the dishes, at the same time his wife came out of Eunwoo’s room gently shutting the door. “It’s been a while, ___” You smiled, hugging your sister in law tightly.
Indeed, it’s been a while. You have been busy with the last year, publishing, and having authors greet and meet in different bookstores here and there. Finally deciding to visit them after months from the last visit.
“Sorry, I came too late at night,” You apologize again as your brother scoops a portion onto your plate. “How many times should we say it’s fine before I throw this ladle onto your head?” Your brother asks while swinging the soup ladle. It’s warmer here than your lonely apartment.
Everyone takes their portion, as you pour the wine for both of them before for yourself.
“Hows the post meeting with the company today?”
“It’s fine, nothing new.”
Seeing how dismissed and confident you are, two of them cooed playfully. “I’m serious tho,” You deadpanned, making both of them let out a small laugh and nod their heads. “It’s just talking about the same thing each year,” You explain as you pour yourself another glass of wine.
The conversation carried on without you noticing, the last portion finished from the pot, the wine had been refilled countless times, and the night reached midnight.
“So, will you finally release something new again this year?” Your sister in law asks between her bites, somehow that question got you.
Well, after thinking about it after the meeting.., “I’m not sure, the idea or the thought is still not well formed yet. But I'm interested in something,” Putting down the wine glass onto the table and supporting your chin with the back of your hand. Looking deeply onto the surface of the wine.
Your eyes already start to droop as sleep and the alcohol start to take the tool of your body. Your brother decided to tidying all the dirty dishes after noticing both of his wife and sister already on their last strand from passing out.
“Wait! Don’t take my wine yet! I’m not finished!” You protest, snatching back your glass from your brother, before chugging it till empty. Before handing back the empty glass, “Yeah, that’s the shi–” you scream before your lips get clamped between your brother’s fingers.
You look like a duck with your lips got clamped between your brother’s fingers.
You smack his hand away, “Eww! you didn’t wash your hand! I can clamped with my own fingers,” you said prociding to clamp your lips by yourself.
“Alright, bed time for all of us.”
After putting his wife into their room first, your brother brings a pillow and blanket from their room after finding yourself passed out on the living room sofa. Quickly tucking the pillow beneath your head, even you try to swat him away while mumbling something, yet he did make sure you wouldn’t wake up with a headache because of wrong pillow placement. Finally covering you with a warm blanket, letting you sleep without being too cold outside.
He quickly moved to his room and shut their bedroom door, trying not to think what he saw the second he left the room…
There's a shadowy figure watching over his sister who passed out on the couch.
"Pay close attention enough, you will be surprised there's a lot of living things wearing human skins rather than real humans itself.”

-Ch.1-
Howling of the wind gently messing up his locks, one knee rested close to his body while the other dangled freely over on the edge of the building. If someone sees him, they will be thinking that another precious life will be taken by the person itself. Lucky for him, this building is tall enough to hide his present from prying eyes.
“Where the fuck are they? It shouldn't have taken this long,” annoyed sigh escaping his lips, already tired waiting for his clue to strike.
Glancing down to the lively festival below him, the man couldn’t help but frown because of the small colourful particles emitting around the festival.
Very lively indeed.
“They look like clusters of candy in the easter aisle.”
As a living creature different from humans, he never couldn’t understand emotion anymore. The man sure knows he was a human before all of this, but that's irrelevant for this kind of thing.
He couldn’t remember anything or even what caused his death-
Suddenly his chest felt tight because of the damn strings. He shouldn’t get too curious, dammit. Before a small purple particle sparks from below the floor of the building caught his attention.
“Finally,” the man said as he stood up close to the edge of the building, “I’ve been waiting for hell of a time.”
He descended the building by letting his body fall off the building heading head first. Flashing lights from each floor of the building became blurred, before he turned his posture mid air and dashed inside the building.
The window exploded inward with a deafening crash as he burst from the outside, shards of glass scattering across the floor. A shriek of terrified scream from a man got his attention, wrinkled office attire, disheveled hair, and shaking uncontrollably.
Nothing remarkable about the office worker in front of him, but he never cared about the person in the first place. Noticing the case held tightly by the man, that’s the thing he is after.
“Really never meddle into your life, yet it always nosy humans into our life.”
Before the man could utter a single vowel, his vision caught nothing but a fleeting shadow rushing at him with those unnatural purple eyes burning in the dark.
A loud blaring alarm wakes you up with a flinch, letting a tired grunt escape because you are indeed not ready to be awake for the day. Fuck monday and morning. A soft purring noise greeted your ears, before you could even turn to the right, a fluffy void already bumped its head onto your face.
A smack of ‘wake up, I’m hungry.’
“I’m awake, I’m awake…,” gently patting the cat as it sits beside your face, the soft tapping sound and movement making your eyes want to shut itself again and drift to sleep. But a harsh slap from your cat’s tail to your eyes makes it snap open. “Geez, Luigi..let me sleep for five more minutes will you?”
Slap.
“Urgh…, fine I’m up, I’m up.”
Ever since the incident happened, sleep is never on your side anymore. You really wish someone was in your place at the time that person cracked his skull onto the ground. Really hate the image of his soulless orbs staring straight at you every time you close your eyes.
Yet, it’s unsettling to know that person is still indeed..alive, after the fall. Of course you’re not wishing the person die, but the question is how the hell did that person manage to fucking survive?!
Putting down Luigi’s expensive breakfast, quickly shutting the cat from tearing the building with its hangry meows.
“Yes, I’ll be okay mom–” hopping awkwardly on one leg forcing your shoe to fit, a laptop bag hanging from the shoulder. “I’m fine, it’s been days since the accident. Besides, it’s only affecting my sleep schedule— okay, I’m sorry,” your phone wedged between your ears and shoulder as your mother voice continues worrying through the call, while your other free hand blindly reaches for the apartment keys.
“I’m fine really, please be careful with your surroundings too– Alright mom, sorry, have to go now!”
Hurriedly close the call and grab an apple as you glance at the clock, it is almost eight in the morning which is bad when you have a meeting with the company fifteen minutes later. Patting Luigi the last time, before making your way onto the front door, quickly dashed into the elevator as you clumsily wearing your coat while stealing a bite on the apple.
Mumbling small apologies as you pass everyone in front of you. A chaotic morning you have today. Luckily the bus arrived faster than the estimated time, you hope that you will make it to the meeting in time.
Rushing to the rows of electronic access gates that separated the main lobby from the elevator, quickly tapping the id on the scanner before clumsily stumbling on the first opened elevator.
Hunching over while trying to catch your breath after all of the running and stumbling over everything before making it into the elevator, without noticing the man standing in front of you blinking his eyes in shock– of what? I don't know maybe the fact of seeing a woman bent forward in front of him huffing and panting.
After catching the oxygen you didn't know you needed, you finally look up, meeting a brown orbs. Noticing the lewd position you are in, quickly straightening your posture, almost snapping your back in the process.
“I’m- I’m so so sorry!”
You could feel the embarrassment start swallowing your body whole, never wanting to disappear from earth right at that moment. Cursing yourself for embarrassing yourself in front of a fine man.
“It’s quite fine, no need to be embarrassed!” he lips curved showing a lovely smile with adorable dimples, you see his slender finger pressing the 20th floor. “I understand how chaotic mornings in the first week can be. Anyway, which floor are you heading to, miss?”
Already trying so hard not to pry the steel door open and just take the emergency stairs, you just pointed at the same floor as him. “Ah, same floor? Are you perhaps joining the post publishing meeting with an author?” you only manage to nod your head to answer his question.
Get a fucking grip will you..
“Since we will be acquaintances after this, should I introduce myself?” a soft chuckle escaping his lips as he extended his hand, offering a polite handshake. You quickly shake his hand as he introduces himself as Kim Namjoon, assistant editor.
Before the ring from the elevator interrupts your introduction, Namjoon smiled as his hand held the elevator door for you to step out first before him.
“Ah, where are we–Nice to meet you, I’m ___.”
You heard his steps flatter for a second yet quickly gain composure after hearing your introduction. “Should I ask for an autograph before the meeting?” Namjoon's little teasing somehow manages to calm yourself from all the past chaos that happened before arriving in front of the meeting room’s door.
He opened the door as you walked inside the room after mumbling a small gratitude to him. “I’m sorry for the wait, everyone,” bowing apologetically to all of her team and the company’s team that helped you countless times in the past.
“It’s fine, ___. We actually just got here knowing that you will be late,” Ms.Fiona, A woman in her late twenties stood up and gently tapped her shoulder. “Old habits die hard, don't they?” you could only let out a small chuckle while the woman smiled and let you sit on the right side of the table.
Everyone quickly gets ready for the meeting, opening their laptop or notes again to remind themself what will each of them convey after the success publishing last year.
“Firstly, we should give congratulations to ___ for successfully publishing, again, last year!” The room erupted with cheer and loud claps, it's always like this for the past four years yet the small celebration still makes you shy. Mumbling thank yous once in awhile as the cheer and the claps calmed down.
Your eyes locked with Namjoon’s across the table, he held your gaze for a moment. Leaning back to his chair, a restrained smirk appearing on his lips followed by his brow lifted almost imperceptibly. He gives you a small nod– a silent gesture of approval, before his attention is already set again to what Ms.Fiona rambling about.
After discussing the sales chart and reader’s perception on the book, everyone agrees that last year's book was a successful publication. Now everyone is looking at you about what will be the next book, is it another novel about romance or another mystery?
The meeting took longer than you expected. Almost everyone is already taking their leave and only leaving you and Talita, your book editor who is also your close friend.
“I’ll never doubt such things when it comes to your book,” the redhead lifted her arms in the air as she gave herself a slow spin, celebrating the meeting was finally over. You rolled your eyes before gently kicking her chair a little too strong than intended, sending Talita to the other side of the meeting room.
“Such a flattery,”
“We need to work with your reaction to receiving a compliment, you might murder a guy who give you one at this point.”
The sound of your laptop bag zipping shut finalizes your mind to get out of the meeting room and get some lunch. “C’mon, let’s hurry up before they take all the menu off the serving plate,” you urged while walking out of there followed by Talita.
“Oh, one thing– you never told me you have an asisstant,” walking side by side with her, you casually blurt that out while waiting the elevator to arrive. Talita looked momentarily taken aback by you, as her lips curved slightly, “I do have an asisstant. As professional nitpicker myself, your books need more than two eyes to be checked,” she joked lightly about the amount of typos you have before the book finalize.
“I’m sure it’s my three-AM-self writing that colums. Beside, it’s not even that bad,” the small chime from the elevator making your friend only rolled her eyes as her reply to your bullshit reason. Taking the elevator to the ground level, with the door slide open and both of you stepped outside side by side walking casually towards the company canteen.
After turning the last corner to the canteen, loud clattering of silver ware and soft murmurs from all the employee chatting with their friends greeted both of you. Fresh hand-made food from behind the counter already makes both of you getting much more hungry.
“Why the sudden interest? Did you meet her?” Talita ask while giving you a food tray as the red head focused to observe the menu for today’s meal. Taking a small bowl of fresh steamed white rice to your tray as you moved to banchan section. “You have two assistants? I met the fine man,” taking the salad and salmon bowl from the server followed by saying thank you.
Talita chuckle lightly as she take her tray with big portion of food. “What are you saying? I only have one asissant, I’m only greedy when it comes to food,” both of you start looking for an empty spot to eat. “No, I have meet him on the elevator— his name is Kim Namjoon by the way.”
As you both sit down, the red head stares at you as if there's sprouts coming out of your hair. “He’s not my assistant, he’s way higher than just an editor,” hearing that explanation makes you stop all of your movement from taking a bite of the salad. What? Someone is clearly lying here.
“Don’t tell me he’s like the CEO of this publishing company? I just embarrassed myself in front of him–”
The redhead let out a small chuckle hearing the panic in your voice, “No, he’s not— we have meet the old man, Mr.Seo, remember?” Yeah, you have meet the one who build this company from zero himself.
Then it got you asking, who is this Namjoon person?
"Pay close attention enough, you will be surpise theres alot of living things wearing human skins rather than real human itself."

-Teaser-
Born with wisdom, beauty, kindness, peace, generosity, and health from the gods. The titan couldn’t refuse her, despite the warning his brother warned him about receiving something from the gods. Always pay attention to the misfortune it will cost, they don’t do such charity. But how could he not be struck by her? Soft pearly skin, with soft yet pierce appearance from the girl makes him stumble.
The god gave the girl a box, or was it a jar?, as a gift to their wedding present. Regardless of the vessel structure, the same warning is still given by the sky.
“Do not open it.”
As the time went by, her curiosity filled her body as the vessel perched itself on the table. The desire of wanting to know what's inside the vessel devouring her heart each time her eyes landed on it. Couldn’t bear the clawing desire, she cracked open the vessel in front of her. Then everything around her erupted with chaos, the world became full of miseries.
Slammed shut the lid, yet the deed has been done. Slowly her chest feels heavy with guilt as she realizes that the world must endure the consequences of her own curiosity. Tears slowly caress her cheeks, her tears fall to the vessel in her arms.
Now the only thing left in that vessel is the hope that humans use to survive the miseries she unleash to the world.
The world around them slowly changed, yet the miseries became more dense since the first time it was unleashed from her box. As man became more greedy, reek of hatred, and prideful, the creature was finally born.
The creature born before death could grasp their human soul and feed from negative emotions around them.
Busy lively streets filled with thousand food stalls and lively pop music along the festival trail in the middle of the city. Bright and colorful lights decorating the streets make the festival much more lively at night.
Vendors shouting here and there with warm smiles to attract customers, children with their parents wearing silly headbands as they eat their ice cream happily, small group teenagers still in their high school uniforms cheering for their friend who tried to knock down the last can off the stall to get prizes.
Lively…
Suddenly a scream erupted in the middle of the festival, alerting the officer who was on duty that day. A man in his late twenties, laid there in his office clothes, eyes looking straight to the woman as blood started to trail from the man’s head because of the impact hitting the ground. The poor woman witnesses how he just plunges down, head first, with a sickening crack as he meets his death.
The officer quickly dialed the emergency team, as sirens replaced the lively music making the festival stumped. Curious people start to gather around the vehicle.
“Did someone really just end their life?” a citizen whispers to another.
“Seems like it, a woman saw how the person died on the spot! Poor her, she must be traumatized by it.”
As the witness sits wrapped in a blanket on the nearest stall. Eyes still filled with shock and fear, probably the memory kept replaying in her mind how the man met his end.
“Miss, please calm down..here, take this tea,” the stall owner gently offers the warm tea to her, as the woman takes the tea with trembling hands. Mumbling apologies as she takes a small sip of the tea, such a pity.
Trying to distract herself from the accident, she paid attention to her colorful surroundings. Despite the awful accident, the festival still stands until later. At least she can wander around to take her mind off it for a couple more hours before coming home, she doesn’t want her mom to worry at home because of how alert she looks.
“What?!”
“What happened?!”
She quickly looks towards the ruckus, seeing people start to shudder in fear makes her curious. Before her eyes met with his ones, she could see it lit a slight purple hue before it died down to become dull brown.
The glass shattered, as her breath became ragged, the same lifeless eyes she saw earlier staring back at her.
“How is he still alive?!” a voice shouted in fear.
"Pay close attention enough, you will be surpise theres alot of living things wearing human skins rather than real human itself.
Welcome to Delection's series masterlist.
𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:
While humans live their boring lives, there's a creature lurking beneath their nose. They act like one, adapting. Since calamity was released free from the vessel, man became sinful and tainted humanity with filth as the emotion became thick with hatred, greed, and pride, the creature awoke by it.
This is mere coincidence right? There's no such creature…
“So…do you believe such things?”
“What things, doll?”
“The phantoms.”
The man in front of her slowly lowered his gaze back to the book she had been reading for the past couple of weeks after the incident. He slowly smiled, showing his dimples, "There's many things humans don't know, so why not believe what you saw..right?” earning a small hum from her.
Humans are always late to notice subtle cues for this kind of thing aren’t they?
