“Thanks…” Taeri said, trailing off. She feels a little bad about how things shook out for Diadem. Not enough to want to leave or anything, but… definitely enough to feel incredibly awkward. Or, more than she already would be, around anyone outside of her little bubble of people. “We have a couple demos… I think we’re recording those first.”

“i’m excited to hear them,” serika answered, and though her voice was a little soft, she meant it. the way people talked about blacklist in the building.... riki knew they were going to be good. and liberty needed a real girl band. “it’s really cool you guys got signed and all.”

rvyeong​:

“Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn’t,” Yeong replied. He’d been doing solo work so long that most of the time he didn’t really think about it anymore, but there was the odd moment. “It helps when I have a backing band on stage with me. It doesn’t feel quite as empty like that, I guess.”

“oh... so like me,” she replied, eyes brightening up a little as she chewed on her thumbnail. diadem was going to have other performers, but she was going to be the main vocalist, and most of her group was going to be a band. “do you get to have the same band every time?”

rvxtaeha​:

“well, it’s a new song for us! but we wrote it ourselves,” taeha clarified brightly. “we were going to record it later this year, but now we can professionally record it! i’m really excited…”

“that’s very cool, actually--  do you guys write all your music, then?” she liked taeha. they were close in age, and taeha made her feel comfortable

rvharin​:

being forced to bond with people was never easy. having mandatory movie nights with people she barely knew was kind of cringey. but these performers were going to be her group. blacklist debuted first because they were a unit. some sort of friendship needed to be intact if she ever wanted to debut. “thanks– they came with the shoes,” harin answered with a tiny smile. “did you get to pick the movie tonight?”

“i......that’s lucky that the shoes came with cool laces,” she retorted lamely, turning bright red. god, she was so bad at making friends. “um, yeah....you guys might not want to see it, though. i picked howl’s moving castle, but if it’s lame, i can find something else....”

rvsumitra​:

“i, well… first you have to know how young i was when i debuted with daizee, okay? i’ve been in the public eye since i was two, and i started in daizee when i was eleven. i was in daizee for like nine years,” she began slowly. “in kpop, there’s the seven year curse, right? you see people start to grow apart and want new things….”

her eyes widened. she’d been in the public eye since she was young too, but not that young. “i.......two?” she repeated, biting her thumbnail.

rvjinkyung​:

jinkyung let out a little tsk, adjusting a blanket snug around the teen’s shoulders and kissing her forehead, walking over to turn the kettle on and looking over serika while she waited for it to heat up. “do you want anything else while i wait? i can make you some soup?”

“i’m not very hungry,” she answered, just barely loud enough for jinkyung to hear her. even if she was hungry, she doubted she’d be able to get anything down. her stomach was in knots, and that wasn’t very conducive to eating.

“i’m really excited to see you guys debut,” serika said, and she actually meant it, unlike some of the other diadem members. serika herself was terrified to debut. she definitely wasn’t ready. blacklist being signed meant they were a buffer, and she had more time to prepare. “do you have a new song you’re debuting with, or are you re-recording one of your old songs?” @rvtaeri​ @rvxtaeha​

since the musicians of diadem were musicians, training didn’t overlap as much. most of serika’s practicing happened with the two other performers, while the band rehearsed together elsewhere. maybe that’s why liberty mandated hang out time, as weird as it was. they wanted everyone to bond together before the debut happened. it made sense. it was just awkward as hell. 

“i... like your shoes,” serika said, face going bright red. “the laces are pretty.” @rvharin​

“It feels weird to be promoting again, but… I don’t know, it’s not nearly as weird as I thought it would be, given how long it’s been,” Yeong admitted. It had been four years since the last music show broadcast he’d attended, and at least six years since he’d tapped into a concept as bright as Say Yes - so of course he was still worried. “I’m cautiously optimistic that things won’t go sideways.”

“is it hard? promoting without a group?” serika asked softly. she was kind of scared to debut, and her only solace was that she knew there’d be a whole community around her. her group. her friends. she could only imagine how nervous she’d be if it was just her. she could never be a soloist like ginny or sola.

her heart fell– she knew that look. this person didn’t know her, but they saw all the headlines. they’d never seen her as an idol, but they saw dispatch labelling her a traitor. all the thai fans calling her a deserter for leaving her group behind for byulbit. “hey, wait, can i explain?” she asked softly. “it’s really not what you think.”

riki bit her bottom lip, shrugging. she usually didn’t pay too much attention to tabloids, seeing how they talked about her family, but she’d seen the fan outrage. mostly she was just scared-- you had to do something pretty bad to upset people that badly. “i...guess so,” serika answered. she’d give the girl a chance. besides, she was too nervous to straight up say no.

“seri, my love, you don’t need to try to hide it. you look very not-okay,” jinkyung said, trying to soothe. serika and goeun were probably tied as jinkyung’s most introverted children, both with anxiety issues of their own, but goeun definitely knew how to manage hers better. from what jinkyung could tell, seri more just felt shame and tried to hide it instead. “come here– wrap up on the couch. i’ll make you some tea.” @hasikrv​

serika looked down in shame. she had been trying to hide it so her mother didn’t worry, but clearly she’d done a bad job. she was just so nervous about her upcoming evals that she couldn’t think straight. nodding quietly, she pulled a blanket around her shoulders and watched her mom go to the kitchen, fingers shaking.
