“well, what you lack in brains, you make up for in looks. i’m sure you could secure something. especially since you’re a top tier idol,” sera answered bluntly.

“sera… you have to know there’s more to it than that,” solhee said, shifting awkwardly. she’d been excited to do this concept and really embrace herself, but she’d be lying if she said she hadn’t seen this coming. she had a hard time apologizing to her old friends, but their treatment had been terrible. this likely felt like salt in the wound.
“what more is there? i thought the fans wanted to see themselves in the media. now they are-- you’re here doing this. i swear, every single thing we do, people make it about sangsuk and her band of losers. it’s a headache.”

“it still would affect a lot of our image and public reputation– especially overseas,” he insisted firmly, biting back a smirk at her pouting. she was persistent to say the least. it was cute. “calculated risk. where there’s far more upside than downside. and i don’t think i see that here.”
“whatever. we’re both untouchable. and it’s not like i’m like...freshly eighteen or something! we met two years ago! it’s not creepy,” she cried, rolling her eyes. hands reached for his arm, tugging on it like a whiny child who wasn’t getting their way. “i’ll convince you someday. i know you-- you’re going to want your hands in spotlights pocket.”

“oh! i could be a great model! i’m really good at posing!” luri exclaimed, clapping her hands together. “how do i make that happen? who do i have to talk to? that sounds so fun!”
“uh, i can’t do everything for you luri! figure it out! i bet if you talk to our manager, he can do it for you,” she answered flippantly. “i have too much to figure out with the duo still, obviously.”

“it’s flawed,” he answered sternly. she was cute, but incredibly self-centered. it blinded her from the larger picture. “i’m not about to have my name dragged in the mud for being yet another predatory older male idol. even if i only met you a year ago, the optics are terrible for me. i’m nearly ten years your senior, and hugely more established than you. not to mention that a dating scandal is usually the end for a group as big as yours. iris would be done.”
“you’re not predatory! you’re a good business man! who’s cute! and obviously i am an adult and am making my own decisions-- if people are making up rumors, they’re the uninformed ones,” she whined desperately. she had it all-- the career, the connections. but not a huge powerful boyfriend. she wanted a big powerful boyfriend to flaunt! it was the last piece! “they can’t end me. i’m too important to their bottom line. just like my dad is too important for their financials. isn’t life all about risk?”
“i hate the fans. they’re so fickle,” sera whined, throwing her phone down in a huff. “we finally celebrate you, and do a super inclusive gay video. you know, offer these people some representation. and all they do is complain about us! i’m so sick to death of being compared to rejectz.” @rvsolhee​
“we’re diversifying this year,” serafina announced, hand on her hip. “iris is important, but we need to make sure we have the whole industry on lock. i’m down, and i have solhee in too, but you guys need to find new streams of revenue. i don’t care if it’s modelling or what. this is the year we take over.” @rvsolhee​ @mandyrv​ @rvluri​
“this is really a win-win scenario,” serafina said with a whine. she didn’t like not getting her way, and ziyuan was very good at ignoring her. “you get your in with spotlight, and get to pull all the strings you want to keep your investments safe and make money. and i get to be a cute sidepiece and can use my connections to you to get what i want. like spots in fashion shows! not to mention i’m sure you and my father could work something very mutually-beneficial and lucrative out..... you really can’t lose....” @rvziyuan​

“i…. i don’t know about any of that,” jinjoo responded, admittedly regretting engaging with sera. “byul and gigi are legendary. and i know i’ve come a long way, but i wasn’t that bad…”
“you weren’t bad, you just weren’t good enough to really be in reign. they are a top tier, world class, top three company super group. and you were meant for dinky little groups back then. take it as a compliment-- you’ve grown a lot.”

“i…. whatever you say, sera. i trust you,” solhee conceded, sighing. “i am really proud of all we’ve done. i hope we can keep making great stuff together.”
“we will. i’ve talked with some of the execs-- i think we’re going to be able to branch out a lot this year. big things are on our horizon!”

“don’t you think it’s weird sometimes that you had such a big say, though?” solhee asked cautiously. “i feel like a group member picking the other members doesn’t really happen anywhere else…”
“please-- the group wouldn’t have happened without my dad’s wallet. we are a special case, because we’re special. we’re the worlds best girl group for a reason.”
“come on, now, i won’t bite,” himari said, biting back a smile as she saw the person hesitating to sit next to her. “i only play a violent psychopath on television. i promise you, i’m very nice out of the ring.”
“i don’t care? i don’t make a point of talking to people who aren’t worthy of my time. and i don’t even know who you are.”
“i know my comeback probably would’ve done better if i’d done the traditional music show circuit, but i honestly don’t know that i can bring myself to care,” jenny mused. she was proud of her album, and the two singles she’d released, but while well received, both she and siren were aware it had under-performed win-wise. “i think i’m just too old to keep up with all of it any more. like, i love my music, but brave new world promotions provided more than enough rushing between programs for this quarter. i have no idea how people manage such crazy schedules.”
“i would be so embarrassed. someone with your tenure, and you can’t even crack the top three on any music show? what’s the point? maybe you should stick to luss and siren busywork.”
“you know, seeing more and more altos in kpop has been really refreshing the past few years,” jinjoo admitted. “in my first groups, they always made me rap because my voice was deeper, even though i’m not a great rapper. and even when we cover old reign songs, i usually do yein’s old parts, because they’re more rap-centric. i dunno– i guess it just means a lot that more and more companies are letting good altos sing, and not relegating them to less important roles just because their voices are a little deeper.”
“it’s good you’ve improved. when you debuted, i was really worried for your group. your voice was terrible,” sera answered seriously. “every live was painful to watch. but look at you now! you’re better than the og reign members!”
“you know, i really like jewel. like, i mean it. i like it so much better than promiss…” shinhye began, rubbing the back of her neck with her hand. “but someone in a comment called us kidzbop reign, and as much as that’s the funniest thing i’ve ever heard, it’s haunting me.”
“jewel at least has some uniqueness, even if it comes from you guys just being lame and squeaky clean. promiss was so boring. like... been there done that.”

“no, i agree. it’s nice. people talk about how after they graduate it’s hard to make friends because you don’t have that common place to meet people every day, but we’re kind of just…given friends, you know?”
“again, there’s a reason i picked you girls. i knew we’d be spending so much time together. i knew we were about to debut a sisterhood. i didn’t want to be stuck with people who sucked. we were built to be a family,” sera said definitively.

“Your opinion on whether I’m boring or not is about the last thing I care about, for the record. It’s in the minority, anyway,” Duri countered, then taking a deep breath, trying not to see red at what the other had to say about Beomsoo. “Well, I can’t say the same for Juno, but I’m pretty sure your group is only supported because you shoved Haze out of the picture. And you’re kidding yourself if you say that you don’t have a gimmick, because you’re chock full of them.”
“take what i have to say or leave it. i’m just saying that if you were less boring, you’d probably have more going on and would be less focused on your schedule slowing down,” sera answered with a shrug. “we wouldn’t have shove haze out of the picture if they had any sort of staying power on their own. you salty haze fans just need to grow up-- the group was dying anyway. we just accelerated the inevitable.” she shrugged. haze had gotten stale long before iris came along, in her opinion. if they were good, having a junior group wouldn’t have been enough to send them packing. “i don’t think you know what a gimmick is, sweetie. we have concepts-- they may seem gimmicky, but it’s something new every comeback. the co-ed group thing? total gimmick. and a useless one at that, seeing as people clearly care more about the units than they do the actual group.”
