Rose let a sigh of relief out as she heard his ideal wedding plans, the last thing she wanted was something forgettable. “At least were already starting to agree on things – I want the biggest royal wedding and the best there is during the summit. High expectations can sometimes be my downfall so feel free to reign me in if you got to but I love a challenge.” Rose admitted excitedly, getting ahead of herself as usual. The fact that most of these royals are silently against the forced arrangements of the marriages gave Rose an upper hand since she’s actually for it compared to others. “Oh, I learnt my mistake with trying to runaway in the past…our wedding day won’t be that day.” The princess responded with confidence, between a unsent letter to Alexander and actual plans to leave with Jakub, Rose was ready to stop being childish and take the crown instead. Although these days were vital for the two to get to know each other more than they already do, tonight was about business and they had a lot to discuss. “I’m more scared that we have Russia to rule..Russia! It’s huge, no wonder my parents threw the idea of us to be together. They’re probably having a month full of celebrations back home.” Rose rolled her eyes at the thought of them, her parents were power hunger so it wasn’t a surprise that Russia was the prize they wanted the most.

At her delight, Nikolai gave her a grin. If there was one thing he prided himself on, he wanted to make sure that everyone remembered his wedding. Maybe it was because he grew up with the most showy Russian family ever, but Nikolai wanted his wedding to be the most talked about event, and the most recognized. “Well the good thing is that I assure my parents will throw at least half the Russian wealth into our wedding,” He laughed, putting down a menu and titling his head to look at her. This fact was true, in fact, as soon as his engagement was decided, his mother had already started building a private walk in closet for Rose in their new chateau in Sochi while his father had all but required that one thousand roses be sent to Rose, a token of their marriage and of her name. “I think you’ll love be great at ruling, and we’ll please your parents, I’m sure.” He welcomed. “I can promise you Rose, you’ll have the most lavish wedding anyone has ever seen. We’ll make sure of it.” Unlike many of his other promises, this one would be true. Even with his obligations to those that are against the monarchy, it was clear that a beautiful wedding was required to keep the image straight.

“alexander? he’s a bit of a crazy guy, and we’ve had some issues in the past but listen he’s got my back and i trust him. i trust him enough to know he won’t ruin everything with rose and he’s a good guy, somewhere i’m sure. god knows we’re going to hell together for our sins but at least it’s me and him. his engagement is rather interesting, but he’s one to handle anything. there was this time in cambodia where he bailed me and rose out of jail actually, and i’m pretty sure the records are still hidden from the public, so that tall icelandic oak is one you can believe in.”

Rose just looked up at Nikolai and grinned, the blush evident on her cheeks at his words. The princess was used to compliments all her life but coming from someone as special as him made all the difference than a usual one. It was new, the two of them, she was used to regarding Nik as her competition and always trying to one up him in everything yet now the two of them would have to end their silly childish games and wed instead. They really had a odd situation – just as much as the other royals. “I love weddings, actually. Gives me a chance to take a break from all the work my parents give me regarding Indonesia.” The princess shrugged lightly, noticing the worrying facial features planted on Nik’s face, making Rose fiddle with her fingers slightly. “Don’t you mean ours?” She responded softly, nudging him playfully. “I’m nervous for the business aspect of it.. being in control of two countries, gaining new allies and enemies is a tad bit stressful but I’m ready. I’m excited to design my wedding dress though, what about you? Your not going to be a runaway groom now, are you?” She asked trying to play off the question as a joke but the worry was definitely there deep down. It hasn’t been the first time since somebody had left Rose in the dark and just left her behind.

Nikolai laughed at her nudging, warmed at the reaction he had from her with a smile on his lips. “I’ve been fond of a few weddings, I like things that are fun you know?” He fiddled with the edge of his suit as they walked together. “I’ve always wanted something big and fancy but something that’s about me. Lots of vodka is a must for me.” He told her. Nikolai had thought about this wedding many times, it gave him hope in the future so he wouldn’t be incredibly bored when the time came. “I promise I won’t be a runway groom, but you better not be a runway bride Rose! I don’t know what I’ll do, especially my ego. I wouldn’t be able to take that.” He jokingly faked being hurt at the suggestion, smiling and laughing. It was so easy around Rose, and she had never thought it would be as easy with someone until now. “I think we’ll figure it out, but I’m a little scared too. We lead very different countries but I think ... it will be alright. I’ll work to fix everything and make it good for both of us. I promise.” He tightened his lips for a moment, feeling the weight of his words. Was this an empty promise? He hoped not.

She was walking the line of food, she still wasn’t hungry but it would be nice to think about maybe want she wanted within the next hour or two. She looked up once she got to the end of the line and the bar started and there he was. She gulped and her feet were moving before she could think. “Hello,” she whispered, offering him a smile. “What are you drinking tonight, Nik?” Aka how are you? But somehow she could bring those words to life.

Nikolai had drifted to the bar on instant, finding the comfort in alcohol as Rose and Alexander danced together. He couldn’t help but feel a bit of jealousy as he stared at them, but he decided to drink away all the pain. There was this sense of impending doom on his shoulders after he received a letter from the other members asking for updates. He stared at the martini he ordered, and turned, a bit startled, to face Sophia. He relaxed in her presence, glad it wasn’t anyone else. “Hello Soph,” He smiled, taking another drink. “A martini, these weddings aren’t really fun until you’ve got something in your system you know?”

The princess of Indonesia did not take events lightly. It was her favourite part being a royal, the glitz and glam of the life she lived in. Although waking up at around five in the morning had been indeed a struggle, the look on Nikolai’s face made all the efforts she made worth it. When she locked eyes with Nikolai, Rose had to try her hardest not to blush. She always thought he was ridiculously handsome, something Alexander would tease her about as children yet their age gap stopped anything happening between the two when they were young or at least that’s what Rose blamed it on. As she made her way down the stairs, Rose couldn’t help the smirk that was planted on her face, it wasn’t surprising that the princess thrived being the center of attention but this time was different. For the first time she didn’t care about what others had thought except Nikolai, he was her finance after all. “Well, I certainly do try.” She grinned, resting her hand on his arm, giving him a nervous squeeze. “Thank you, Nik.. you don’t think it’s too much? I don’t want to step on the bride’s toes.” Rose asked, biting down on her bottom lip. The princess had strict instructions not to overdo it at the weddings over the coming few months but Rose couldn’t help it sometimes.

“I think you’ll be the most beautiful person there, for better or for worse.” He laughed, leading her towards the others with a smile plastered on his lips. In his opinion, there wasn’t anyone in the world who could compare to Rose, she had everyone beat the moment she showed up to an event. Nikolai didn’t think anything could catch him off guard or distract him yet here he was, gaping like an idiot in her presence. Running a hand over his hair, he treaded carefully around the other royals. He had received word yesterday from his mates back home reminding him to be careful at the wedding. He wanted to enjoy every moment he could with Rose, but there was still a lingering sense that he may be in trouble if something were to happen. Call it paranoia, but a part of him always worried about the depth of his crimes at home and how they could hurt Rose, so he instantly felt a sudden urge to pull a way. He couldn’t no matter how much he tried, though, he cared too deeply for her. “So what do you think of weddings? You excited for yours?” He bit his tongue, not realizing the connotation beside such a question before it was too late.

Nikolai had woken up early to prepare, ready first thing in the morning just as he had hoped. Weddings were a tiring affair, and it was best to be ready early and be prepared for anything. He wasn’t close to either family, but his father had told him it was important to go to every single wedding at the summit, if anything for appearances. Nikolai shuffled to go pick up Rose, and as he saw her, his heart stopped. It was always clear to him that she was gorgeous, and he was sure everyone around him knew as well. He stared at her, memorizing every single detail. The way her hair cascaded over her shoulders, and the intricate flowers that detailed her dress, he wished nothing more then to run his hand over every single part of her : a work of art. He cleared his throat, snapping back into reality as he extended his arm for her to take. “You - “ He was at a lose of words to truly describe the gnawing feeling of love he felt for her at this moment, of pure awe in Rose. “-you look absolutely gorgeous.”

“how’re you liking your time here, then?” he’ll enquire politely, looking over at the other with a warm, welcoming smile. albie was usually the last and worst windsor to act as host. the nerves he experienced at the mere prospect of..speaking to people enough to have him retreating before he even has a chance to get a word in. recently though, he’s been working on stepping out of his comfort zone, on being a little more open and approachable, something he admired a lot in his siblings, or at least – some of them. this was a little easier than usual, he must admit – since it was misha’s older brother and all, and misha had been in his life for…as long as he could remember. “the sun has finally decided to bless us, it seems. are you going to do anything to enjoy the much necessary heat?” he’ll add on, hoping he’s not being too forward or, annoying – though both concerns flood his mind, he pushes them back as best as he can.

“as someone who’s spent most of his life in the freezing cold, i enjoy this immensely.” nikolai smiled, standing outside and letting the sun bask in his skin. it was true, aside from a few visits to iceland ( which was just as cold ) and some time in indonesia, nikolai did spend most of his time stuck in the cold of russia, rarely leaving the palace or his boarding school which practically remained in siberia. he turned to face the prince, vaguely recognizing the figure as someone misha knew. “england’s very beautiful you know, it must be nice to have such a wonderful place to live.” nikolai remained closed off to many, but it was easy to talk to those that mattered, like the english royal family, and those that his brother cared about. “i might do something for my fiancé, she loves days like this or i put just explore the city, i was late so there really haven’t been any pretty days to explore yet.”

“you know when you hear about the iceland family it’s always the same old same ice cold look but charlotte’s so different. maybe because she’s my best friend’s little sister but she’s so much fun. i love lottie and she’s hilarious, and between me and you, she’s far better than alexander when it comes to having fun, he’s a bit too serious sometimes. lottie’s lovely, and her smile, it’s like the whole entire room just lights up too, and it’s so fun to make a little bit of fun of the other royals with her, her opinions are hilarious you know. people need to be more like lottie, though she needs to relax sometimes, just a bit. i would love too spend time with her, but you have to be careful with alexander, but lottie’s just different, in a good way, you’ll never meet someone like her, really.”

When Nikolai had found out who he was going to marry, he made his way up to his study. In the grand room, he sat at his desk and pulled out his old stationary finding a piece of paper to collect all his thoughts on.

Addressed to her majesty Rose Rais of Indonesia,

Rose, I first and foremost hope you are well. I know we haven’t seen each other in the past few years, but I have to say there’s a part of me that is happy with this arrangement. I had always dreaded waiting to see who I’d end up with, and I prayed my parents didn’t force me into a marriage with some obedient pansy. When I heard it was you, it was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I hope you feel the same way, and that you think this match is one that will prosper. I know you’re not very fond of the cold in Russia and that you love Indonesia, and I promise we will make something work so that we can be with both of our families and see both of our countries as often as possible.

But if we are to be wed, I want to hold it in truth as well. There are many things you already know about me Rose, from all of our memories with Alexander to all the things we’ll learn about each other in the future I’m sure. But there are some things that no one knows about me, and I cannot force you into my world if you don’t know the whole story.

I’m not a good man Rose, I have made many mistakes and I’ve done things I shouldn’t have done. I have blood on my hands from my involvement in an organization that is against the monarchy. This may seem shocking, but I joined to protect my family, and I will protect you from them too. I’m a liar, cheater, even a murderer. I’ve done so many things that keep me up at night, and I need you are deserving of much more than that. You should have someone kind and good, and I will try to be that person for you Rose. I’m going to be a better man for you, for our families, and for the future. I will try, really, I’m going to put every single bit of effort into being the better man and husband that you deserve.

I hope that despite my past and my present situations, that you know I will always protect you and keep you safe. I treasure my friends and family more than anything, and Rose, I want to have a family with you and to love you to the fullest one day. I’m sure we will be happy together, even if this whole arrangement is a bit new right now, but I also know that I need to be a better person in order to do so. I can only ask for your understanding, and give you a promise.

Nikolai stared down at the finished letter, sighing. There was no way he could send this, he thought to himself. It was full of empty promises, he’d never be the better man he had hoped to be. He took the letter, folding it carefully, and turned to toss into a trash can. Staring at the ink on his hands and wondering he had wasted another moment. @roseraiss

Mateo hesitates slightly at the unexpected information. “I was not aware of that rumor, but then again I tend to ignore the media and rumors.” He tries to come up with an odd fact or rumor to share about himself. “I know. Well, I didn’t know who you were until you introduced your self, but I’m vaguely familiar with the names of the royal families. I’m from Mexico, the prince that collapsed in public. Not a rumor.” He tilts his head to the side. “What I want to know is, was the entire scenario a rumor, or were you really in Siberia? Or did you really eat rabbit meat? “

“Let’s just say that some people like to make things much more interesting than they actually are.” Nikolai laughed, teasing an old friend. “It’s been ages so I don’t think you’d remember, but I remember hearing about the prince that collapsed in public.” Nikolai did have some memory of the headlines, but he was never one to really pay attention to the news around the royals unless it truly mattered. “So, have you met your betrothed?”

the summit was going according to plan for everyone…that actually liked the idea of it. the blonde herself had no intention of marrying off to a stranger, especially with the fate of belarus in her hands. she needed a strong and fierce partner, yet also someone who was kind and grounded.. a random someone wasn’t going to be the one she’d choose to rule with - that was for sure. the belarusian royal was strolling inside the huge ballroom, it was one of those dinner nights they were having - a way to get to know each other, when her gaze was caught by someone else’s. and it wasn’t just anyone, it was HIM. nikolai. anastasiya downed whatever was in her glass, placed it on the near table and headed to the terrace. once outside, she could finally breathe again. of course, she had seen him a few times after their break-up but how did one get over breaking an engagement? her blood was boiling with all kind of emotions, the petite blonde not used to feeling that much anger.

Nikolai wasn’t surprised that she had avoided him, but he couldn’t help but wish she had stopped for a moment. He watched as she downed a glass incredibly fast and escaped, with him trailing behind slowly. He went over what he could say to her in his head, but he knew that even trying to muse something out would seem half assed to her. He hated that he had to end things, but he couldn’t handle their relationship with all the pressure from his . . . hobbies ( for lack of better word ) either. “Wait,” He called, hesitating but still following. “If you run every time you see me, we’ll never get through the summit.” He pursed his lips, nervous.

“Denmark’s a pretty place,” Nikolai smiled, remembering a visit his parents had arranged for him when he was young. He was only there for a few days but he remembered liking the towns. “I have, I’m to wed the princess of Indonesia. We grew up as friends so it’s actually nice for me. How about you?”
