EPSILON HAS ARRIVED!! - About two months ago I was approached by my friend Reuben who asked me to write the music for his new audio/visual production "Epsilon."  As flattered as I was at the very idea he would ask me to be the composer, I was extra excited at the fact this would be for a futuristic, sci-fi story that begged for synth and percussion-driven orchestration.  After about a month of writing and recording (with vocal contribution from one of my great friends Angela Lorenzana), I finally finished all of the music for the first episode, "Though the Heavens Fall."

Indeed, Epsilon's soundtrack is one of my own personal greatest accomplishments and I am ECSTATIC to finally share the final product with everyone!  What makes Epsilon great, though, is the entire team behind the scenes that worked diligently to put together a beautifully constructed pilot episode.  I implore all of my friends and family to check out our first episode (mind some strong language for those that may be offended)!

When I came into work today I was told that I former co-worker had committed suicide. The grief in the air was palpable. On a counter near the entrance, a couple of former co-workers made a shrine in remembrance. She was a beautiful woman who left behind a newborn and a number of co-workers who desperately searched in their conversations for where they went wrong. I wanted to tell them that it’s fruitless to think this way, but I’ve never had anyone close to me die, let alone commitment suicide. I thought about how crushing the loneliness she must have felt just minutes before she decided to do “it”. Your world so evenly coated in darkness that suicide is your only option for reprieve. I don’t blame her. Loneliness can be unbearable at times. I just wish I could have told her that despite all of her troubles and woes, she is loved and sometimes you have to let that be enough (even though it never feels like it is.)

Later that day at my second job I tried to tell a co-worker who knew of her what had happened. He seemed completely uninterested. In that moment I was reminded how impermanent everything in this world is. I even thought I could feel my enso tattoo heat up from underneath my shirt. I wonder if I were to meet my “end” in an untimely manner, what would the reaction be. Who would be completely uninterested? Who would think of me at night before they go to bed wondering where they had gone wrong? What signs had they not seen? A bit egotistical and yet, it’s something we all ponder in times like these.

When I clocked out of work from my second shift, I was filled with my usual sadness. It’s something about the night air, coupled with grease and sweat saturated body that makes for the awful realization that I do not enjoy my job very much and yet I see no end in sight. I typically decide to chase these demons away with drugs and alcohol, but the thought of that further depresses me. I rolled down my windows, going 55 in a 45 and yelled in a falsetto to Tame Impala’s “Eventually” and “The Less I Know the Better” all the way home. I felt relieved from the time it took me to leave work to the realization that I was coming home to “nothing”. I’m actually oddly enough okay with this notion mentally, but my heart longed to have a decent conversation over drinks and diffuse my fatigue through the attention of another. I said hello to my mum as I walked inside. No response. It seems as though the t.v. had been watching her for some time. 

As I took a shower to wash off the days filth and melancholy, I was reminded of an incident at work. A ticket order came in for a Medium/Well burger. That is a burger that is completely cooked on the outside with a hint of pink in the middle. The grill cook messed it up twice. Both times they were sent out Med/Rare. When out manager pointed out this mistake for the second time, they had the nerve to get mad and cuss out the unseen patron for not wanting to eat a burger not cooked to the desired temp. In my disbelief I started laughing at the absurdity. The level of disregard for the very people who give us business, thus putting money in our pockets was astounding. In many ways, I can’t believe how people can care so little.

I’ll probably end the night playing some Hearthstone and listening to music. I’ll text a few people before I go to sleep and then I’ll make sure my alarm is set for 5:30am, so I can get to work on time. I know tomorrow is Saturday, but I don’t care to think about days anymore. I jokingly remark how I only recognize two-days. Work day and non work day. Maybe I’ll get desperate enough to escape this routine.

At least the pay is good.

This Sunday I will be joining Ryan Koch over at Rock 106.1 for "Underexposed" to talk about the upcoming visual novel "Orion." In addition to playing the character Virgil in the game, I had the opportunity to compose the end credits song for the game which will be exclusively featured on the program. THE RELEASE DATE IS OFFICIAL "Orion" will be premiering next Monday, September 28th exclusively on the Steam store for download. No one really understands just how excited I am for this to be released. The entire team on Orion is incredible and this is one of the coolest projects I have ever been a part of. This is also the same date as the six month mark with my girlfriend. Coincidence? Yes. Still awesome, though.
