Kiosk Assignment

The Kiosk assignment took me out of my comfort zone. In most classes my homework will consist of readings and papers but not in Com 240. Having the opportunity to pick my Kiosk topic was awesome. As a very big Dave Matthews Band fan I found it enjoyable to work on this project. I ran into a couple complications while working on my project but was able to use the book and internet to fix the problem. If I had free time I would look for new pictures and information to improve my Kiosk. I can only hope to have more assignments like the Kiosk in the future.

Flyer Assignment

Working on the flyer and kiosk projects has been an enjoyable experience. Starting with the flyer, I decided to make a timeline of the Dave Matthews Band studio albums. Once I decided on the Dave Matthews Band I started to research their studio albums for both my flyer and the kiosk project. Personally, I gain a lot of enjoyment researching one of my favorite bands as part of my homework assignment. With ideas flowing I started to draw a rough draft for the flyer. In my research, I found out that the Dave Matthews Band find it very important to display album concepts within the album cover. Knowing this information I wanted to display the development of the Dave Matthews Band albums. Starting in 1994, the albums continued to develop and gain an identity for collective tracks. Specifically, the 2009 Dave Matthews Band album “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King” was dedicated to the passing of one of their band members, LeRoi Moore. This album cover is my favorite of all Dave Matthews Band albums because it was drawn by Dave Matthews. Within the album cover is a large drawing of LeRoi Moore cheerfully floating down the French Quarter of New Orleans.

Typography Assignment

The type assignment is the most difficult project I have done so far for this class. It took me a little while to refresh my memory with InDesign. After a few minutes of exploring the application I was confident to begin the assignment.

I started searching the web for some of my favorite athletes. Jumping from Website to Website, I finally landed a quote from Floyd Mayweather Jr. Now, prepared with a quote I was ready to pick fonts and think about the project being black and white or apply color.

The two fonts I chose for my project were Blackmoor (quote) and Party Script (name). I wanted an elegant script to represent Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr.'s name. However, the quote is in Blackmoor because I was looking for a bold and rugged look for an aggressive quote. I was faced with complications when I tried to add a drop cap. Having a difficult time getting the drop cap the correct size I desired, I had to turn to Youtube for help.

The Photo Assignment is an assignment that took me out of my comfort zone. In most of my classes my homework consists of readings and papers. To have the opportunity to take photos and be creative was highly enjoyable. It was awesome to step away from the computer screen and just enjoy the beauty around me.

When I first started walking around I felt uncomfortable and didn’t know what to photograph. I put my headphones in and ignored all people around me. After a couple of minutes, I was one with nature. With this new comfortable mindset I was able to take photographs with ease. I was not worried anymore about the tests I needed to study for or homework, I had a clear mind to soak in the natural beauty.

I can only hope to have more assignments like this one. Having the opportunity to walk around and escape my busy lifestyle is exactly what I needed. In the future, when I am stressed out with school I know for fact that I can take a walk down the constitution trail to clear my mind. Walking down the trail with a clear and creative mindset is how I formed my idea of my inspiring photo and poem.

This ad signifies contrast with the use of color and value. For example, the woman in the background demonstrates a powerful contrast tool because the artist used both dark and light colors. The artist also displayed font contrast in the titles found in the text box. One of Gestalt’s laws that are portrayed in the ad is continuity. For example, when viewing the “Admiral” ad the viewer will follow the characters eyes. So if the viewer was to look into the television he/she would follow the eyes of the women looking up, which would lead to noticing the woman drawn in the background. Vice versa if the viewer noticed the drawing in the background first because her eyes are directed towards the television.

September 8- Ethics

This photo, which can be found in The Telegraph, alters the appearance of Cameron Diaz. The image was used to sell cosmetics so the photographer found it important to edit “flaws”. The photo manipulates Diaz’s face, weight, and bone structure. I found this to be a great example of representation in the media.

Aug. 25th

Symbolic is a specific type of sign. One sign that can be considered symbolic is a cross. For some viewers, the cross represents their religion and Jesus Christ. Performing the sign of the cross represents the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Dave Matthews Band Live at Wrigley Field is one of my favorite albums of all time. Raised as a die heart Chicago Cubs fan, I was ecstatic to see my favorite band preform at Wrigley Field. Looking at the album cover today, I believe they picked the best image for the album. Wrigley Field is known for the lushest green ivy and the beautiful Wrigley Field sign outside of the stadium. It was a strategic move by the Dave Matthews Band to use the Wrigley Field sign because it attracts both baseball and music fans. The album also has some kind of filter that makes the image look old and faded. The band might have picked this filter to show the age of Wrigley Field. Countless baseball teams and musical guests have been preforming at Wrigley Field since 1914 so I believe  they used the old looking filter to pay respect to the history of Wrigley Field.

After creating my tumblr I decided to edit my appearance. The theme I decided to use is called SingleA. I picked SingleA because personally I think it is very easy to explore that theme. In the top right it displays the course and as you scroll down the webpage it is simple to follow each blog in chronological order.
