This specific arc was something I’d not touched as much because I wasn’t entirely sure how I wanted it all to play out in my AU.
I know what I wanted the result to be (which I'll go into detail with for one of the other questions 🫶) but when the elves were possessing people I struggled for a while to think if I actually wanted Ry to be one of them or not.
He was one of the people picked as an exception to be a Royal Knight despite not participating in the exam - though he was present for it and does interact with some of the participants during the event (as my friend made an insert when I got them into Black Clover last September, and we wanted a way of them meeting 😭).
I think of him having been with Cob to keep an eye on everything going on outside the Eye of the Midnight Sun's base when the infiltration mission started, since his magic would've been more helpful for such a supporting role - and it makes sense for the two Wizard King Attendants to work together well.
This is mostly because if he had been with Marx when Julius was being attacked he would NOT have sat idly by while he was fighting Patry 😭 - ESPECIALLY when Chrono Anastasis was cast as he would've known what would likely happen to Julius from it.
For this I just did a silly doodle of Ry and Cob interacting lol:
I ended up choosing to make Ry be possessed by an Elf just like Cob, and since he shares the same magic attribute with Marie, I briefly (and I mean for like five seconds) considered making him a distant relative of her and Gauche because of course the Elves they were possessed by were related too and it could've made sense.
I like everything plot wise to generally align with canon as much as possible, as that’s just my personal preference - but I was worried it wouldn’t make sense for him to be possessed by an elf when those two already existed.
However, I GENUINELY would rather eat glass than associate any aspect of myself with Gauche, thus I thought ‘screw it making sense’ and the spirit possessing Ry would just be another elf with eye Magic like Eclat (but not related to her) instead, and avoid making anyone alive related 💔.
Ry doesn't do anything particularly major while he's possessed, just mindlessly attacks humans like pretty much every other elf NPC 💀
However when William helps rid of all the possessed souls, everyone keeps him in the dark about the fact that Julius died in his absence - since no one can really figure out a good way to tell him, knowing full well why his reaction would be and how he'd instantly blame himself (my poor baby 😔).
Even after Julius' revival the next morning, no one fills him in - since honestly saying "hey, your husband got turned int a literal child" is arguably a lot worse and more difficult than telling someone their partner is deceased 💀 they just say the Wizard King is in critical condition and can't be seen to, and for Ry to just help out with the reconstruction of the capital - which he does.

I'll talk about how he finds out about + his reaction to Julius' state after the revival under the ask you left about it mootie - but I will say to anyone worrying what the outcome is, Ry straight up leaves and quits his job because he OBVIOUSLY refuses to date someone who's physically 13 (cuz he's not a weirdo 💔).
