BACKGROUND.
Ryder was born in tragedy. Her mother, Katie, and father, Jake, were high school sweethearts, unable to look away from each other for more than a minute. They had bright futures together. But, a little mistake is all anything takes. Her mother was sick most of the pregnancy; it was hard on her, and her unborn baby. She went into labor two months early, mom didnât make it. Jake, he tried, he honestly did. He was 17, taking care of a baby on his own. His parents wanted him to give Ryder up, right away. Not even a year old and sheâs already caused so much destruction. But he couldnât, because Ryder was the last thing of Katie he had. And so he didnât end up going to college. He got a job right away as a mechanic. They let him bring her to the shop and play in the office with the receptionist. But when she was about 10, the beautiful brunette came from school one day to hear that the shop had closed, her daddy didnât have a job. She found that out by asking her fatherâs friend why her dad was asleep in the middle of the afternoon with a bottle in his hand.
Things werenât easy after that. Unemployment only lasts so long and Ryder knew her father wasnât even trying to find a job. Â She tried to help, she tried to make some extra money tutoring and babysitting. But her father had taken up drinking as a hobby, she couldnât keep up with his demands, but she never stopped trying. She was so focused on money that she couldnât take care of anything else. She went from a straight A student, to barely a C. Â Things continued on like that for years, Ryder not sure if they were going to be able to pay their rent, or their bills, going days without power or water. She wasnât even sure her father noticed half of the time. Things got easier around 16, that was when she found out what she was made of.
The summer of her 16th year was a big one. She had officially dropped out of high school, because she couldnât afford to waste her time there, got a job at a super market, and met a boyfriend. Grant was 13 years older than her and owned a bar. After three months of being together, Grant offered for Ryder to come work at his bar. She agreed, but walking in the door, she realized it wasnât about busting tables. It was a strip club. She tried to back out on the first night, but Grant sat her down with another dancer, she explained to Ryder how much money she could make in a night. It was more than she could make in an entire week at the super market. Within a week of that conversation, Ryder was dancing. She never minded it. It was hard to separate everything at first, but once she figured out how to remember that these were only customers and in no shape or form could they actually sleep with her, she was fine. Grant took her virginity on their six month anniversary. Â Two weeks later, he brought in a girl, 16 years old as well, on his arm, kissing her. Â Ryder went to jail that night for assault. She lost her job, her boyfriend, and a few chances, good thing there are other clubs.
Ryder continued to strip for the next few years. It made good money, kept the nights on and her daddy liquored up, and it kept her in a steady supply of men waiting to step in to take care of her if she needed it. She never did. When she was 23, she came home to find her daddy dead, choked on his own vomit while passed out. Her life seemed to shift after that. She went back to dancing, but realized she was no longer struggling. Her bills were paid, she was fed, and everything was taken care of. Day by day, the reason she stayed at her job became fewer and fewer. One night, she let a customer actually take her out. He was a radio executive. He was in his 40âs but he was attractive. Â They connected instantly and talked for hours. The next day, he took Ryder to his office and she impressed everyone. Within the next two weeks, she was living in his house and working at his radio station. Â They couldnât make their relationship last. It was an easy split with little feelings hurt. She got to keep her job and she loved it. She had found someplace that she was happy. There was no struggle. She was able to take care of herself and be happy. She intends to stay that way.
