<Insert excuse for not posting for 3 months here>
Yeah… Thats what the title was gonna be. But instead most people don’t care when you post - Just that post. I’m just gonna dig write in.
You know what? Honestly, typing that is not programming is also kinda fun! I might just get back in the business! After having learned that my best bud in college start a blog - and a tumblr blog at that, I decided I needed get back in the game.
[ Coming from downstairs ]
Mom yells up to the kids:
"Let’s try a different tactic here!"
"Everyone that runs as fast as they can to get in the bed, gets a brand spanking new car in the morning." …
"Did that work?"
<cue> Scurry of little feet
<cue> Silence
<mom> “Alright then.”
Thats the home life for ya.
As for me, these past 3 months have really been awesome. I’d call dad on the phone and he’d be like: ”So what happened yesterday?” And I’d say. “Yesterday! Heck that’s ancient history. Wait ‘till you hear what happened today.”
Instead of giving you every gory detail, I will just summarize some of the hot points of this blogging break of mine.
Spent and awesome summer with by best pal Henry; whom I mentioned above.
Took an 11-hour bicycle trip with Henry to the Great Wall and back, traveling upwards of 116 Km round trip. I hate bicycles now.
Got referred by a good friend; a director and actor, to act in a Chinese movie.
Consulted the BU style king (Henry) on what to wear to the audition
Went to the audition and auditioned in front of the big shots.
(Honestly I wouldn’t have accepted myself) But got a call a week later. My agent said I was in.
Waited around for 2 and something weeks to get called into the first actor training sessions. (That’s show biz)
A competitor came up - better than me. Agent said she might be able to get me another part.
Texted back that I had had a long time to think about it and I really appreciated everything she had done for me. But I told her I thought acting just wasn’t one of my passions. And I’m sure that my succeeder would better play the role than me.
Watched my best friend get baptized here in Beijing.
Discovered micro-controllers. (Which i now wish a had discovered a long time ago.) They allowed me to blend to of my favorite worlds together: Computers and software, with hardware. A step into the physical world of computing.
Ordered a bare bones Microchip and a Hardware programmer. But Settled with the widely known Arduino prototyping platform.
2 Days later, found some guys that were taking a programming and engineering class, specifically taught with the Arduino from a Dr. Yu, a Math Major of Beijing National University. Dr Yu, is Working on a real world computer science and engineering project, of which I don’t know the details yet, but he also teaches.
Joined the class. How could I pass this opportunity up?
Absolutely loved!!! Working with a team.
Got tired of seeing people in programming forums responses saying: “You probably need to know more about c++.” or “A little more knowledge of the language would help.”
Decided I was going to master Bjarne Stroustrup’s C++…
IT JUST GOT SERIOUS IN CODE_VILLE.
Caught up with another good friend yesterday that I hadn’t seen in 3 months.
Took a 3 mile hike catching up on things.
Currently loving being able to learn what I enjoy.
Thanks for reading the long post, if you made it this far, it will be a story to tell your children. That is far from all that happened in these 3 month’s time. Some things are worth mentioning. But I need to get the pics and vids off my phone first. They’re better explained with those.
Anyone know why the SGS III gets really slow after about a year?
God bless,
Ryan P.
