it actually feels so rewarding to spot a detail like this in real time and watch it pay off a few years later ...

the c6 scene stuck with me long before i even shipped these two. i invested into this pair off of three moments and pure speculation and it has paid dividends

i'd like to emphasize how weird that c6 interaction was at the time. even outside of a paring context it was ryoshu first (or one of them, at least) human moment in the game!! between that, the butler id, and all that followed, it was easy to guess these two might have something

it's a small detail, but you must understand that especially for a character like ryoshu, who is a character with little dialogue otherwise, any and all existing dialogue should be analyzed with a lot of scrutiny (i think that'll be quite the relevant tip given the sinner next in line for a canto)

Late night thought but I'm a huge sucker for prompts that has the OTP comfort one another. I imagine that as ryocliff post canto nine where heath heard about the shit that happened to ryoshu and although sloppy with confronting her and asking if she's okay at first in the end he pulls her in a tight hug

May be a bit ooc idk but it's a thought that kept spinning around my head like the moon and earth

ryoshu and heathcliff parallelism

hello tumblrians. sorry for leaving you all hign and dry. that being said canto 9 gave me a lot of ryocliff ammo despite them having 1 interaction with one another, particularly in the way their stories parallel each other. let's get started

a homecoming to the place that you hated the most and treated you miserably for basically your entire life (house of spiders, wuthering heights)

2. the worst treatment of maybe all time

3. enduring all the abuse contained there for the sake of the one person who genuinely loves you and treats you like a normal human being

4. both of them choosing a purple flower to represent you (hydrangeas, heaths)

5. said person getting yanked out of existence by the end of the story

6. suffering an entire loss of identity and humanity because of the grief of losing them and ultimately having to be saved both by the sinners and said person

7. a change in weapons in order to keep the memory of said person

8. an ending song centered around on how that person taught you to be caring and kind

9. being blamed for ruining the life of the person meant to protect and nurture you

10. developing violent tendencies because of the way they were raised

11. and finally, two extremely bittersweet endings

that's all i can think of right now but there might be others that i've missed. feel free to add any that come to your mind! besides story similarities they also both share the distinction of not having a dedicated story dungeon, a part 3 filled with the most batshit boss encounters in the game, banger music and so on and so forth

even before canto 9 dropped i always felt these two had similarities (this is a ship account, after all) but i never could've expected it to be to this extent. i love these two together romantically or platonically or what have you and i hope this post has made you think about them at least a little bit more.

never forget how the first sign of humanity and empathy we see from ryoshu is when heathcliff is getting beat up by the fake oufi in canto 6, likely flared by her own protective instincts and memories of her own past treatment
