yeah fuck off thanks
if you were different from all the others, you wouldn’t be in a frat.
right?
i hope when you see me, you feel what i feel when i see you.
there once was a boy.
“once” is an exaggeration, there have been many boys in stories before this and this will not be the last.
rather, there once was a boy who played with toys.
still not terribly original, is it?
there once was a boy who, instead of being fascinated with how toys were built, how they were created and why, was fascinated with how the toys broke.
like many boys before him and like many boys after him, he was lonely. neglect is always a root from which violent vines tend to wind.
his father, a busy man who could no longer love a woman but only love a bottle, wasn’t terribly great company for the boy. but his father gave him toys to play with, so he was grateful.
but sometimes it wasn’t enough. he needed attention.
he rough housed with the toys, pulling arms on dolls until they snapped off, carefully calculating the angles and force it took for it to finally break, watching the different reactions a rubix cube would have to a variety of forces (blunt, piercing, shattering) until his father noticed. and was met with a silent grimace as each toy was replaced.
this went on for some time, this cycle of attention seeking destruction, until one day the boy happened upon a toy he hadn’t seen before. he treated it like every other before it: a means to an end, a source of entertainment in watching as he could methodically make it break. but this toy was resilient. no matter how hard the boy pulled, no matter the drop or time of submersion in a tub of water, the toy only showed minimal signs of wear.
the boy was getting frustrated because of this resilience, he wasn’t getting what he had set out for. though his time was occupied, and he enjoyed the time spent with the toy, it wasn’t serving its purpose like all his previous toys had. but he was determined.
everything has a breaking point.
sometimes i wish i had met you once we had graduated. i wish i could think of you as a former fraternity brother and not have to deal with the present tense. i wouldn’t have to deal with carefully cloaking anxiety in the most elaborate capes of hubris and arrogance every time i step into the house because i wouldn’t have to. i wouldn’t have to step into that house with those people that terrify me.
i wish i had met you in high school. i wish i had met you when i was young and impressionable and still understood what it would be like to have hope. i wish i had met you before i became obsessively worried about abandonment and before i erected walls with acerbic defenses. i wish i had met you when i was learning how to make connections with people, because i know the way i connect would be different. i wish i met you before my father died and left me with a mess of legal affairs i had no idea to handle as i was preparing to go off to college and had to defer a year.
i wish i had met you when i was a child. i wish you had been there when i went to pick out gifts that would go unreceived on mother’s day. i wish i met you before i understood what alcoholism was, how disastrous addiction is. i wish i met you when i got my first guitar and i would have played songs for you.
but often i wish i had never met you at all. it would have been kinder.
No one has ever written, painted, sculpted, modeled, built, or invented except literally to get out of hell.

you make me want to write poems.
i don’t know what about.
i wish i had the strength to tell you to go away and mean it.
it’d be so much better for the both of us.
kinda want a relationship kinda don’t ever want to give someone the power to hurt me
