Alphabet Superset, K week: Kelpie

Yet again, not my best (though I suppose not far from my best, sadly :P). I don't know about others, but I've found horselike creatures to always be somewhat difficult to draw correctly. Still, I am at least glad that I did something, I guess?

Alphabet Superset, J week: Jabberwocky

Quite some time has passed since the I week, hasn't it? Well, I have no excuse for that, but I do hope I won't have as long breaks as this one - though I still can't guarantee weekly posts, I do hope that in turn, there will be times when I can prepare two weeks during one. Anyways, a Jabberwocky, from Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll. Often imagined as a dragon-like creature and originating from a nonsense poem, I thought that adding somewhat weird proportions might lend itself to said origin.

Alphabet Superset, H Week: Herbalist

Finally on time, though I'm not sure the quality is on par with previous work - though part of it is that bad human anatomy always looks worse than bad fantasy anatomy, I suppose? Although that's pretty much the opposite of an excuse. :P

Anyway, a herbalist. Not necessarily a fantasy profession, but I guess it could be one? Although, typically it would be merged with something like a druid or some other nature-related concept... Well, can't really defend myself too much here. Next week, however. should definitely be up the fantasy alley, so at least there's something to look forward to!

Alphabet Superset, G Week: Gryphon

Once again, a few days late, sorry! This week I tried to focus more on shading, to make it look just a little less flat compared to some of the other pieces. Also, once again I decided to skip lineart, but I think it works better with softer edges?

Anyways, regarding gryphons, griffons, griffins, they sure are interesting hybrids, simply due to the sheer amount of different combinations people consider one, with seemingly any bird-quadrupedal mammal being an option. I went with the more traditional depiction, but the potential definitely is there.

Alphabet Superset, F Week: Faun

Well, a tad late, I admit. From time to time I have this bright idea to try doing some artwork with as little lineart as possible. Every time, the result is atrocious. Not to mention it surprisingly taking longer to make than a normal piece. Hopefully one day I'll learn to do it properly, but for now lineart it is. Now, on the bright side, as I look at the finished piece, at least it looks kinda goofy. The idea was that the faun would be sliding down the vine/rail... alas, with no visible momentum he just kinda seems to be standing in the air and tugging at the whatever-it-was-supposed-to-be.

Alphabet Superset, E Week: Eclipse

As a preface: Had to rush a little this week (which, I admit, is ironic considering there was a break week before that), so sorry if the quality got even worse compared to the previous letters. On the other hand, it was somewhat refreshing to make something in two to three hours as opposed to the usual six or seven. Anyways, one might be wondering where's the Eclipse in this picture? I considered many options for what to draw for E week, most revolving about it. There are actually many different myths regarding sun and moon being chased by something and eclipses being the outcome of them being caught, like the dragon Jawzahr in Persian mythology. However, I also thought it funny to consider eclipses an occurrence similar to changing a lightbulb. Hence, there you have a cosmic entity tinkering with the sun. I guess that's it?

Alphabet Superset, D Week: Demonic Demon

At first it was supposed to be a dullahan, but later on I decided to add some kind of head, just to make it more interesting. As for the puny mortal that brought offerings to the demon? I don't know, just think of him as a tiny Macguffin whose only purpose is to draw demon's attention. :P

Alphabet Superset, C Week: Curse

A day late, but here it is, week C entry: Hiding the spreading Curse. When thinking about what kind of curse it should be, I decided to go with something related to Cinders, just for the sake of having more Cs in it. Though, I'm not sure if one would guess when asked about it.

Also, I tried a more cel-like approach to shading, I think it went pretty well? At least I hope it won't be considered preposterous to say that I believe I've made some progress since A week.

Alphabet Superset, B Week: Basilisk

Here we go with the B week entry: Chicken Basilisk!

I am overall pretty satisfied with how it turned out. Except for the wings, just please focus on the green eye and pay no mind to the wings, especially its left one. Another thing to put on the to-learn list, I suppose? Especially since I don't know what I'm gonna do for the Q month if I don't learn to do it right...

Alphabet Superset, A Week: Arcanist

Not sure if there exists a standard definition of an arcanist, but in this case I just tied the word to the major arcana cards.

Overall, this week was a real eye-opener on how I have to improve in pretty much every area of 2D art. I won't promise immediate improvement, but hopefully I will also squeeze in some practice so as to make a difference in the long run :P
