KEY POINTS / BIOGRAPHY
I. childhood and hogwarts years: Cornelia Lowe had been a disappointment. An only child, a female and the first Hufflepuff in a long line of Slytherins. Her entire life had been a reminder of how unworthy she was. So, when she found out she was unexpectedly pregnant from the muggleborn she had a one night stand with, Cornelia knew she had to lie. Sinistra was born and was told her father had been a famous Quidditch player, one of the best, and of course he was a pureblood. There was no reason not to believe those lies, and that was the story she relayed her entire life.
Sinistra was a beautiful baby and her grandparents made sure she would never grow up to be as insufferable as her mother. She was reading from the moment she could hold a book in her hands, etiquette classes since the day she started walking, piano lessons starting at the age of three. Anything she wanted was handed to her on a silver platter, but she had always been taught to stay humble. She knew, as purebloods, their family was better than most, but she was never allowed to rub that in anybody’s face. Sinistra was taught how to be a lady, she knew her place and she knew to keep her mouth shut on the matter.
Before taking off to Hogwarts, she had gotten an important talk from her Grandmother about the four houses and which was the best place to be. Of course Slytherin was top of the list, a house for purebloods, it was her rightful place. However if the hat insisted, Ravenclaw was acceptable as well, a house full of clever and resourceful witches and wizards, but under any circumstances she was not allowed to be sorted into Gryffindor or Hufflepuff. She could not end up like her mother, another disappointment to them. Sinistra was supposed to turn their family around after Cornelia ruined their reputation.
Thankfully her grandparents had nothing to worry about. The hat was slightly torn between Slytherin or Ravenclaw, but ultimately it decided upon Slytherin. Sinistra was glad, as many of her childhood friends had been seated there before her, and many after as well. Slytherin was full of other like-minded children and she quickly grew attached to many of her housemates, gaining a close group of friends that stuck with her throughout her seven years in the castle. Sinistra was smart, smarter than most, and she proved herself by getting top marks in every one of her classes. Until her third year, when a muggleborn Ravenclaw boy had scored higher than her on a paper in Ancient Ruins. Once that information had reached her, Sinistra found the boy and cornered him, casting the horn tongue hex on him and threatening worse if he dared surpass her once again.
Rumors began swirling, getting more and more out of hand with each passing day. But there was no proof that Sinistra had been the one to hex the boy and she got away with it, and seemed to make herself clear as no one had ever gotten a better mark than her since. Eventually she made Prefect and Head Girl, proving to be the perfect pureblood heir her grandparents always wanted.
II. during the first wizarding war: After graduation, Sinistra knew she could land any job she applied for, given the marks she had. For a minute she considered becoming a healer, but knowing she would be forced to help anybody regardless of bloodstatus, she decided against it. Instead, she chose to go down the route of journalism. It wasn’t a traditional job, but she’d always enjoyed writing and because of her beauty and grace, she was able to gain information relatively easily. Working for the Daily Prophet had given her an inside look on the war, and of course she choose a side. Though she couldn’t publicly choose a side due to the nature of her job, Sinistra stood on the sidelines and silently supported the Death Eaters.
While working, she began a side project of her own, a compilation of facts about muggles and muggleborns. Her work described that Squibs were only born because muggleborns stole magic from well deserving wizards, along with pages and pages supporting the Death Eaters and their views. It was a spur of the moment decision to bring the book to a publisher, but she was glad she did as they wanted to get The Muggle Conspiracy out on shelves as quickly as possible. It was an overnight success, but of course it came with its fair share of downfalls. Sinistra was fired from her position with the Prophet, a place she’d put in years of hard work and dedication, a job she loved. But the Prophet wasn’t getting her anywhere, and because of her decisions she was now a best-selling author in her twenties.
Sinistra spent some time traveling around Europe and parts of North America to support her work, spending hours signing copies and answering any questions her fans had for her. Because of her travels, she unfortunately couldn’t officially take part in the war, but she made sure to pass along any information she gained to her close friends that were in the midst of everything.
Upon returning home, Cornelia had decided it was time to come clean on Sinistra’s true identity. Her mother broke down in front of her, confessing that she was in fact a halfblood, her real father was muggleborn man that had been in Hufflepuff with her. Sinistra saw red and knew she couldn’t let the truth come out. In a fit of rage, she took away her mother’s mouth using Oscausi and locked her away in a tower in the manor, leaving her to wither away. After a couple of days, letting the information settle, Sinistra felt bad for the treatment of her mother and returned her mouth, but continued to keep her locked in the tower. She ordered the house elves to ensure she was fed three meals a day and allow her out to use the restroom when needed, but to keep a close eye on her and never let her out of their sights when out of the tower. Wards were set up to keep her within the manor should she ever attempt to escape, but Cornelia followed the rules set in place peacefully, knowing her daughter was a skilled witch and she would end up in much worse conditions if she attempted anything.
III. where are they now?: The downfall of Voldemort had been rather sad for Sinistra and she mourned the loss. The war had been a perfect excuse for her to be cruel and vicious to those who were under her, but now things were back to normal for the most part. She had returned to being a prim and proper lady, tea parties and events to show off her beauty and grace. It was time once again for her to be seen instead of being heard.
It was a strange time, trying to navigate the world post-war, but she fell back in to her old habits gracefully. It was admittedly quite boring, although she had never been a part of the action, she certainly missed it. Book sales weren’t doing as well as they once were, and she was dying to write something else. It needed to be on the down low, she couldn’t let people know too much information on her next book. Since muggleborns were no longer considered the enemy, her attention turned to the next thing, werewolves and how they’re a menace to society. It was a controversial topic, but Sinistra was no stranger to controversy.
Sinistra continued keeping her mother trapped in the manor, eventually giving her access to the rest of the house so long as there were no guests over. She was doing everything she could to keep the truth hidden. As far as she was concerned, her father was a pureblooded Quidditch player whose identity remained a mystery for privacy reasons.
