when you agreed to share a flat with your best friend, you did not expect yourself to fall in love with him.
yes tom is cute, thereās no denying that, but he is your best friend - been inseparable since the age of 7 with your relationship only growing stronger over time - surely having feelings for him was wrong. right?
the thing is, he noticed your sudden need to try and subtly cover your cheeks with your hand or hair whenever he entered the room shirtless. in all honesty, itās as though he was purposely doing that just to draw any type of reaction and it was annoying for you, your rosey flustered state always getting the better of you.
what you were completely oblivious to was that tom liked you too, hell he would even go as far as to say he loved you. he just needed more reassurance that you did in fact like him and that his feelings werenāt one sided.
the perfect opportunity arose when tom had his head on your lap during one of your weekly movie nights. you were lazily carding your fingers through his hair and leaned down to softly kiss his forehead. it didnāt send you into a fit of giggles like it used to when you were 13, rather, the soft forehead kisses you both gave each other from time to time sent a warm feeling through you; a sense of belonging with one another.
confessing his feelings for you was something he was terrified to say, it could potentially make or break you guys, and he really didnāt want to lose you. the gentle smile that curved itās way up on your lips seemingly gave tom all the confidence he needed to finally tell you about what had been rattling around in his brain for the longest time.
you pouted slightly at the loss of feeling toms curls twisted in your fingers as he sat up, turning slightly to the side to indicate that he wanted to talk instead of watching whatever crappy movie you put on the tv.
after tom sighed dramatically to draw your attention away from the tv, you rolled your eyes and mimicked his actions to turn and sit directly in front of him.

just hearing the innocent nickname alone made him even more nervous than it shouldāve. you noticed the way he was anxiously fiddling with his fingers and held out your hand for him to hold, stroking your finger over his knuckles which always seemed to calm him down.
you had only ever seen him this nervous when you were 16, the time he broke your favourite flower pot by kicking a football around and was too scared to tell you, which ended up in tom blaming it on his little brother instead.
āhey whats up? you look as though youāve seen a ghost. you know you can tell me anything right? iāll always be here for you, iām your best friend,ā
it was as though your sentence finally pushed tom to say the words heād been shying away from for ages.

the heartbroken look on your face and the way you dropped his hand made him feel like shit. he immediately laced your fingers together before speaking up again.
āfuck, okay let me rephrase that. I want to be your best friend love, but i also want more than that. I like you, a hell of a lot and quite honestly iām dying not being able to kiss you when you do your cute little morning dance to wake you up, and the way you cuddle closer to me when you fall asleep in my bed nearly every night. it just makes me fall for you more each day. youāre the only one who makes me feel like this and itās crazy.ā
without even thinking you launch yourself into toms arms, hugging him tight as held on to you, rubbing your back softly.
tom let out a breathy laugh before asking, āi take it you feel the same way then?ā
you giggled shyly as he tucked the piece of hair that was falling in front of your face behind your ear. āyou really mean it? this isnāt some dumb prank is it? cause if it is then mate iām gonna be so pissed i-ā
the feeling of toms slightly chapped but still soft lips on yours made your heart feel as though it was about to leap out of your chest and do a somersault. as soon as he pulled away he rested his forehead against yours and nudged your nose delicately with his . ādoes that answer your question pretty girl? youāre the one i like y/n, itās always been you.ā
āi like you too tom, i have for a long time.ā you whispered as you kissed his cheek gingerly; toms smile never faltering.
tucking yourself under his arm to cuddle on the the sofa, you turned to him and cupped his cheek.
āstay with me forever tom?ā
chucking softly, he turned his head to the side to kiss the palm of your hand. this was something you always asked tom and he always replied with the same answer.
