i feel like i’ve been FLOODING your ask box but i just wanted to throw this idea your way…👀
First of all, thank you incredibly so for bringing this genius to me. Second, NEVER stop flooding the ask box!! I love it!
Many credits to @s0ullesslullab1es for creating the moodboard for soccer player!jo !! You're brain is huge and awesome :)
ᯓ★ I'm thinking of a classic high school romance trope!!
ᯓ★ Jo is the captain of the soccer team, having spent her high school career giving her blood, sweat, and tears for the game. Every season she gets better. And much more determined than the last. For her senior year, the players voted for her as captain! She was over the moon when she got the news.
ᯓ★ She always smells like the turf and something spicy. Like a warm salt water vanilla.
ᯓ★ Her bag is stuffed with athletic tape and Gatorade. She carries a huge bulking water bottle around with her wherever she goes. If there's a second when her reflexes aren't up to par as they normally are, her bottle clatters to the ground and it sounds like an atomic bomb had gone off.
ᯓ★ She'd known about you for a little while. Just because you're a nerd, doesn't mean you're not popular! She always thought of you as a cutie—especially when she started noticing a different book in your hands almost everyday in the hallway.
ᯓ★ You're in the same math class together. Funnily enough, the two of you are on separate corners of the classroom. You've never sat at her table or has she been partnered with you in a group. She knows your name, your affinity for reading, and the fact you kind of keep to yourself.
ᯓ★ She respects the fact you go to school to learn. It's perfect compared to some of the troglodytes in the class who go there just for daycare.
ᯓ★ Jo was formally introduced to you after school before practice. She had brought the balls out for Coach Fitz and one of them rolled across the field. You had been sitting there working on something.
"Hey, pass me that?" Jo had called out, hand cupping around her mouth so her words would travel louder.
You grimaced, then gingerly set down your pencil and assignment, trying your best to throw the ball to her. Athleticism isn't exactly your strong suit. You could climb stairs just fine, go for a run if need be, and get through a few sit ups. But adding balls to the mix? Not good. Shitty results.
The ball is thrown at an angle, which makes Jo have to swerve towards it. Her legs work over time to propel herself upwards. The whole scene ends with her falling to her side, triumphantly holding the ball up with one hand.
"Oh my god! So sorry!" You shout, instant embarrassment crawling up your chest.
In the distance, you can see her wave dismissively. "It's fine! Thanks!"
ᯓ★ During practice, she kept stealing little glances over at you. There was just something about you that captivated her mind. Maybe because you were soft spoken or the fact she'd been looking for you in the halls. She couldn't figure it out.
ᯓ★ Jo comes in to math class the next day and waves at you. She noticed the way you paused before waving back. Fondness had found a home in her chest, deciding you were adorable.
ᯓ★ Jo invited you to one of her games. "There's a soccer game on Saturday. You should come."
You glance up from what felt like the hundredth packet that week to see her. Smooth blonde hair collected at the base of her neck in a low pony, slender neck on full display. She's looking down at you warmly. But the slight curve of her mouth tells you it could be something deeper than a friendly invitation.
"Uhm, o-okay. I'll check my schedule." You regret the stumbling of your words, wishing to bury your head in the sand like an ostrich.
"Awesome." Jo grins, sending you a wink before walking back to her own desk.
