So this is getting out of hand. I fell down the Good Omens-rabbit hole in January 2024 and it looks like there is no end to it. Wahoo! About a year later i tumbled into Our Flag Means Death and so my readings mostly contain fics on these 2 fandoms.

Tea Break

"Pass me a book." Crowley says, eyes not leaving Satan.

"Which book?" Aziraphale is trying to think, why does it feel so hard?

"Well, it doesn't matter, they're all blank. Whichever one you give me is the right one."

Does Crowley have to be so short with him? Aziraphale wonders. What is happening to them? He reaches for a book. 'Bleak House' -oh. Fog. Love. Paperwork. Endless disputes. New home, like the old but... He hands it over to Crowley who writes in it.

"But - but that isn't The Book of Life." Something sparkles in Aziraphale's mind. If only he could get a moment to himself. Concentrate.

"It is if we say it is." Aziraphale hears Crowley say.

"What are you two idiots doing now?"

"I want answers." Crowley insists.

"Oh--no, no, you can't do that." Satan looks alarmed Aziraphale notices. But why? Oh.

"Oh, yes, we can." Crowley snarls at Satan. "Do you want to write it?" he asks.

"Give me the pen." Aziraphale sits down at his beloved desk, looks at the page in front of him. Absolutely not he thinks.

Satan' Aziraphale writes in the New Abridged Book of Life, disappeared like a nightmare upon waking, the only thing left after him was a vague feeling of dread and a bad memory.

"What are you doing angel? Did you just disappear Satan??" Crowley turns to Aziraphale sat at his desk, wide-eyed, Satan vanishing from in front of his eyes.

"Well, I'm sorry Crowley, I did try to be nice to him first!" Aziraphale snaps and feels his temper rise. He takes a deep breath. No. He will control this. He really needs some time to himself. "I don't know what you were expecting, reasonable answers? From him?"

"No, that's not- what are you writing now?"

With the universe destroyed, Aziraphale keeps going, hand shaking just slightly, God also ceased to exist, having nothing to control anymore, the two beings that never could be controlled out of Their grasp.

"Aziraphale!"

"Do you have any other ideas darling? Any better ideas?" Aziraphale asks, pouting. “We might not be getting any answers, but we are also not getting tricked by Them!" Aziraphale hisses.

"Um,” Crowley seems to concede, “What about - the books?" he gestures around them.

“You know, as much as I’d like to bring the universe back right this minute, I’d rather have a cup of tea first if you don’t mind and a moment to myself.”

“There’s nowhere I can lea-“

“Don’t be silly Crowley. You don’t count." Aziraphale sighs, looking and feeling so, so tired. "I mean," he gestures, "You don’t disturb my peace. Usually. I like having you around," he raises his voices as he tries to explain, "Haven’t I proved that over the millennia?”

“Well yes, but sometimes you’d still insinuate you have work to do-“

“Introverts have limits even for loved ones Crowley." Aziraphale sighs. "I haven’t had moment to myself in years. Let me get that cup of tea and then we can discuss what to do with the universe. After. Okay dear?”

Side Note To Fan Fic Authors

Here’s the thing.

I read a lot of scripts.  A lot.  From professionals to aspiring writers to complete newbies.  Features and pilots.  Specs and treatments.

And 8 times out of 10 the fan fic that I’ve read over the last, oh, 15 years is leagues better than this stuff.  It’s more inspired.  It’s more compelling.  It’s genre bending and creative and heartfelt.  It’s well-paced and intense and funny and sexy and meaningful.  It’s smart and thoughtful and good.  It’s novel-quality.  Better than, sometimes.

Rare is the script I don’t want to put down, but how often have we stayed up until 3am to get to the last chapter of a 100k fic? And it’s not even a fan fic author’s day job.  This is what they do on the side.  In their spare time.  For free.

So my point is, fan fic authors, you’re good.  You’re good writers and great storytellers.  I know it doesn’t always feel like it, especially if you’re one of the authors who’s not a BNF and doesn’t get the notes/hits that a few do.  And  because some people still view fic as “not real writing.” You guys know the shit that gets made into movies.  You’re better than that.  So be better than that.  If writing is what you think want to do, then just know you’re already doing it.   You’ve already started.

And you’re more talented than you might think.

The Solstice Dinner now complete on Ao3!

Written for the Winter Omens Big Bang @gowinterbang. Story by me, art by the incredibly talented @hogs-and-ham. Rated E.

Enemies to lovers human AU, packed with banter, humour and bickerflirting! Fairly lighthearted, with just half a chapter of light angst. And of course a fluffy, happy ending!

Fiction Summary:

Inn proprietor Aziraphale finds Crowley insufferable. The man is rude and arrogant.

Cafe owner Crowley despises Aziraphale. The man is posh and fussy.

When the National Witch Association is snowed in at Heathrow Airport and is unable to attend the Solstice Dinner event that they booked and paid for, Aziraphale decides to take the chance and invite the lovely people of Tadfield to spend the night at the Inn. If he extends the invitation to Crowley and his niece, it's only out of kindness towards the latter.

The premise of this story is very loosely based on one of our (both, Di’s and Hogs’s) favourite Gilmore Girls episodes The Bracebridge Dinner. You absolutely don't have to be familiar with the show to enjoy this fic, but if you are you might recognise a few references and Easter eggs. Apart from the bare premise and some references, the two stories don't really have much in common.

Crowley scoffed, “Seriously?”

Aziraphale simply looked him in the eye and clicked his tongue, holding his arm in the pose of handing Crowley his pine-scented piece of paper, pen and candle.

“Crowley,” Aziraphale said sternly as the Yule Log burned bright behind him. “Take them. And write your negative feelings down on the piece of paper.”

“Or what?”

The Angel’s expression turned from severe to pouting. “Or… or I’ll never talk to you again.”

Good Omens Fan Fic Friday - (20 Feb 2026) Old Age

Our ineffable pair are immortal. But their portrayers are not. After nearly a decade, Michael Sheen and David Tennant are aging out of the roles. And yet, doesn't that make it interesting to think of what Aziraphale and Crowley might be like if they aged?

Luckily, we have some creative writers who have explored our favorite characters in old age. This theme features some amazingly tender stories that I adore.

Let's start with a writer who created the GO nursing home AU (as far as I know), @on1occasionfork. The series, There Was Magic Abroad in the Air, begins with Our homeward steps were just as Light (T). In it, Crowley is a mischievous nursing home resident, known for his antics and pranks. But when a retired literature professor, A. Z. Fell moves into the room next door, the pair become inseparable.

The series continues with There was never a dream to compare (T), in which our ineffable pair marry. It's followed by And as we kissed and said goodnight (T) which tells the story of the cat Crowley and Aziraphale convince the nursing home to adopt. Each of these stories are lovely, and among my favorites. But they inspired another writer to create her own story in the same universe. @spectrallydistracted wrote the beautiful tale, The streets of town were paved with stars (G). The nursing home staff overhear a conversation between our pair that leads them to worry they're planning a getaway. The reality is (believe it or not) even sweeter. This story is a real gem. I loved it so much.

Next up is A Little Life (E) by @gaiaseyes451, which follows the entire life of Anthony Crowley and Ezra Fell as they meet, fall in love, raise a family, and grow old together. Mind the tags. This is a good read for when you need a cathartic cry.

Finally, AppleSeeds wrote Something New (E). Aziraphale and Crowley are best friends and nursing home residents. While talking about their life's disappointments and regrets, Aziraphale confesses that he's never been physically intimate with another person. Crowley offers to alleviate that disappointment. Is this the only Good Omens fic featuring sex between geriatric characters? I don't know. But it feels unique, and it's beautiful and tender. Yes, old people enjoy sex too. This story inspired @goodbyevannyart to create a lovely drawing. Check it out. Many writers age our pair down in human AUs. I hope that even if you've never considered Aziraphale and Crowley aging that you'll give these stories a read. They are all wonderful. This may be the most excellent group of fics I've ever grouped together. I'll be back next week with another selection of recs based on a theme. This is not a fanfic, this is a bible. 😅 My e-reader counts 1.552 pages and it took me the first weeks of this year to read it. A very clever plot, sprinkled with intermissions. There is lots of fanart, a Spotify playlist and a discord server to it. It was nice to really dive deep into a story. 🩷

Now I am only left with 1 question: what was the meaning of the 3 marks Aziraphale left on Crowley's hand? Maybe enlighten me in the comments!

Modern Au. After the last deal is closed, wall street hero Ed simply HAS to flee NY. He ends up visiting his mom in Bennet Bay with no plans for the foreseeable future. At least until he meets the local cafe owner Stede. And a whole bunch of people decide to start meddling with those 2 lovebirds. 😅 Very sweet story, low on angst, great on banter and perfect for this time of the year.

1880 and Stede is out there, trying his best to keep his farm alive. But this is the wild wild west and there are people wanting his land, the sun is unforgiving and his wife and kids think him a loser. So when he meets the famous bandit Blackbeard - how will this possibly work out? 🤠

I know @mia-ugly from *slow show, a famous fanfic in the world of Good Omens and was thrilled to see she wrote about OFMD, too. I absolutely adore this story, it's a real western and still somehow totally them and in character. The end had me in tears and I will definitely reread this story. 💗

It's for science. 😁🍆🌶️😂 @depraveddame is one of my favourite p*rn writers and she always delivers. This story somehow has a different vibe to it, less aching and somehow lighter.

Crowley gets himself accidentally discorporated and ends up in hell, waiting for a new body. Which won't be easy, as Hastur is down there and ... well, clearly won't help him. Unfortunately this means Crowley has to tell his angel, that they have been married for years. Aziraphale was married? Does that make him a widower? And what to do with the body in the meantime? 😱

This story was so much fun to read! The plot is clever and the banter is incredible . A new demon and 2 earthlings are also introduced and it's all very well rounded. Please treat yourself to it ! 🤗

I can't give you a summary for this one. It's practically a going-through-history, starting with Adam and Eve to Oscar Wilde. And every love story reflects their own story. There is almost no connection to the book/TV adaptation, and it's exactly why I love it. This story gives us a glimpse of what they might have experienced through the milenia. Sometimes it's painful, almost always it's full of tender longing. And it ends of course - happy. 💗🤗 It's rated E but seems more like a M to me.

What you need to know

I loved the banter in this story, but don´t let yourself be fooled. If the story is practically all up and happy at page 70 and the total pagecount is over 200, you know something is coming. This fic is beautifully written, but you will cry. A lot. Sometimes i had to do breathing excercices to be able to go on reading. And i needed breaks. The fic features Alzheimers and major characters deaths. Still also the tag "hopeful ending" is appropriate. I am nonetheless glad i read it and it is on my re-read-list, because honestly it was so touching and grieving and beautiful. Honestly i don´t get why this story isn´t out there published and a hit. 🖤A bigfelt rec but you have to be up for it.

A wonderful story in the style of "mad men", though you don't need to have seen it. I haven't and enjoyed it very much!
