mason nodded his head, deciding against pressing further. he didn’t like when people pushed him into opening up and so he didn’t do it to others. “yeah, i get it. now you guys look like two different people. it works.”

“It’s definitely going to take some getting used to, and Elle is probably gonna be like... mind-blown. But, I think it was time for a change.” She said simply, shrugging her shoulders in the process. “It’s weird having short hair though. I don’t think I’ve cut my hair past my back since like... elementary school.”

“Before I explain myself, can you at least give me your honest opinion? I literally chopped my hair, and I’ve never been anything but blonde. This is… weird for me, too.” Sabrina rambled, an obvious sign that something was wrong. After all, how often did women make such drastic beauty decisions without reason for it?

mason raised an eyebrow, his eyes scanning over the girl. “honestly?” he paused for a moment and nodded before lifting his shoulders up in a shrug. “i like it. i think it suits you. anyways, did you go through a break up or something or was it time for a change?”

To say that Sabrina’s mind was a busy place would have been an understatement. She felt as though she couldn’t grasp a single thought for too long, unless it circled around the events of the past year, or what had happened to her sister. Of course, the letters in her mailbox certainly weren’t making it any easier. So, she’d decided to go somewhere in search of a distraction, and no place seemed to do the trick like Bartini. It was loud, and obnoxious, and made it hard to focus on anything – especially after a few drinks. 

She’d been sitting at the front bar, nursing a screwdriver, when she’d noticed the man a few stools down had stolen a few glances in her direction. Had it not been for the alcohol, she likely would have ignored the gesture, finished her drink and made her way home. But, alas, the vodka had already made her way through her being. “I know you from somewhere, don’t I?” She spoke up, uncertain. @deputydahmer·

Sabrina. Sabrina. The name alone was enough to make him shiver in anticipation. The time had come for a proper introduction. The last murder had everyone in a frenzy and required too much of his time working instead of giving the newly brunette the attention she deserved. Jeff knew he had to make up for the days he had spent focusing on other matters. And what better way to show her how important she was than to give her the pleasure of meeting him. His blue eyes zeroed in on her form at the bar as soon as he stepped inside the club, years of training making it easy for him to spot the people he was looking for. That haircut and color would take some time getting used to. He could recall the anger he had felt the first time he had witnessed the changes; which had prompted him to leave another present for her to find. Though every relationship had its fair share of compromises. 

Nonchalantly taking place on a stool that was far enough and yet allowed her to take notice of his movements – Jeff trailed his gaze in her direction before ordering a shot of whiskey. Letting it be known she had caught his attention though staying put so she would make the first move. And he was far from surprised when the alcohol she was drinking gave her the push she needed. “I didn’t think you had noticed.” he replied with a bashful smile, tilting his head before meeting her eyes again. The connection had been there from the very first moment he had seen her – she couldn’t even deny it herself. In a room full of his fellow colleagues, she had remembered his face. “I’m a deputy– I don’t think we’ve met under the right circumstances.” The smile faded as he willed a serious expression to take over, playing the kind and empathetic character so well. “I’m really sorry about what happened.”

Sabrina had never been too good with faces, let alone names. But, she was certain she’d recognized his from somewhere, confirmation carrying in his words to spark a memory of the man, and many others, weeks earlier. “You worked my sister’s case.” She recalled, affirmation clear in her own tone as she pieced the flashing red and blue lights on the road in front of her apartment to the complexion of the man sitting at the bar. “Elle Watson.” She added. She knew that the police force of Derry had plenty on their plate, as of late. It was probably hard to remember all of the people they came in contact with over time, in relation to the job. 

“I don’t... remember if I properly introduced myself. It was... a crazy time.” She recalled, the alcohol in her system making her memories a little hazier than they might have been sober. “Anyways, I’m Sabrina.” She offered with a wide grin. “I think the last time we saw each other, I still had blonde hair, down to here,” She motioned to her mid-back, nearly falling from her barstool in the process, only to grab the counter for leverage in soft laughter, despite how pale her face had gone at the reality of falling. “Surprised you even recognize me.” She chuckled as she collected herself in her seat, collecting a judgmental glare from the bartender.

Leaving her house had slowly gotten easier. After the Masquerade, it had been hard again, but she was trying her best to work through her problems. Leaving at night was harder, but she felt like she was suffocating in her bedroom tonight. She slipped clothes on and made her way to her favorite place in town. A lake near the highschool where she had a million fond memories. She took her shirt and pants off and waded into the water softly. When she turned back, she realized there was a figure in the dark, watching her. “How long have you been there?” She asked calmly, her eyes focusing on their face.

To say that the girls were connected in more ways than one was an understatement. It was as though they often carried twin telepathy, something Sabrina was convinced was just a myth, despite the amount of times it had proven that they were living on the same wavelengths. Tonight seemed to be one of those nights. Growing up, the old lake had been one of their favorite places, and she often found herself visiting when her mind was too cloudy. 

She’d received another letter in her mail that morning, and it hadn’t left her thoughts ever since, making it hard to sleep. She’d been sitting at the edge of the lake, flashlight on her phone on, toes barely gracing the water as she studied the small fish and tadpoles in the muggy water. She’d heard the sound of water as Elle stepped in, and had immediately thought it was him, until she heard her sister’s voice. “Elle?” She called out, confused. “I don’t know how long, a little bit. I couldn’t sleep.” She muttered in response. “What are you doing swimming in the middle of the night?”

Sabrina had been sorting through her mail when she’d found the hand-written note. No envelope, no name, and yet she knew exactly who it was from, not that she had ever titled him as anything more than her stalker. Reading over the words on the piece of paper, seemingly torn from an old notebook, she letting out a sigh, peeking over her shoulder as she always seemed to do nowadays, constant fear weighing on her being. Folding it in half, she stowed it away in the depths of her purse, before carrying the rest of her mail inside and locking the door as quickly as possible.

Sabrina was hardly the type to do a good deed, but she’d been caught in conversation with the check-out girl too many times. She’d been on her way out, the store having been out of her favorite snack food. So, she figured it wouldn’t hurt. “Hey!” She called over to the man, her tone sharp. “Your mother has called me three times already, babe. Can you wrap it up? We’re already late, and she’s going to drive me to an early grave.” It was good enough for quick thinking. 

Wolfe perked up as the woman called out to him, creating enough of a diversion for him to reach for the receipt and thank her, quickly grabbing his bags and nodding. “It was great talking to you. Good luck to you and your fiance” He grinned before heading towards the exit. “Thank you” He said softly under his breath. “She just never stopped, I don’t think she took a breath that whole time”

Sabrina didn’t think twice as she waited for the man, reaching for his arm as the two of them exited the grocery store together, playing along with the charade until they were out of the cashier’s purview. “She does that a lot.” Sabrina pointed out, clearly a regular at the store. “She’ll talk your whole ear off if you give her the chance.”

“Oh, definitely. Inferno’s the place where that big fight broke out, isn’t it?” She asked curiously. The idea of pasta could basically convince Sabrina of anything by this point. “They have this blue coconut drink that’s like… amazing, but nothing touches that watermelon sangria.”

“No, that was the Broken Stool. Ironic name, considering what happened.” Juno widened her eyes, realizing that knowing the name of every bar in town off the top of her head wasn’t exactly a good thing. Shaking her head, she turned her focus back on Sabrina, nodding in agreement. “I prefer green apple, but any sangria is good sangria.”

“Ugh,” Sabrina exaggerated, pulling a face at the drink Juno had mentioned. “I’ll never understand how people can tolerate anything apple flavored.” She couldn’t even stand apple juice, if she was to be honest about it.

“You mind if we drink somewhere that’s not… skeevy?” She asked hesitantly. “I mean, I might be up for bartini, but I don’t really want to go to the Falcon or anything like that.” She shrugged. “We could go to Olive Garden or something, and eat while we drink?”

“Most bars in town are skeevy, unfortunately. Inferno? Skeevy. Falcon? Skeevy. Owner of Bartini? Cute…but skeevy.” Juno wrinkled her nose for a moment, the prospect of food too good to pass up. “I vote Olive Garden. Their sangria is god tier.”

“I remember a girl in high school tried to bleach her own ombre dye, and that basically taught me everything I needed to know about bleach, honestly.” She chuckled, recalling the terrible dye-job, and the many times she’d likely ridiculed it. “Do you wanna like.. get a drink or something? I could… really use something to take my mind off of things. I’m a little scattered today.”

Juno laughed softly with Sabrina, nodding as she tucked more hair behind her ear. She hardly ever did anything with her hair, apart from the one time she dared to dye it pink. She had been glad it was short-lived, and didn’t plan on touching it again for quite some time. “Nothing would make me happier than grabbing a drink with you,” she said softly, the smile still on her face.

“Bleach is no joke, my friend. You want to be scared out of bleaching your hair, you watch Brad Mondo videos on YouTube. You will never look at hair dyeing the same way ever again.” Juno lifted her brows for emphasis, obviously trying to joke with Sabrina. But then her shoulders relaxed, and she smiled for real. “Good. I’m glad I can help at least a little.”
