idk why but it suddenly hit me while seeing a lohen amv that he's probably ambidextrous
i remember in my psychology class our professor stated that all left-handed people are ambidextrous/cross-dominant/bilateral to a certain extent due to the world being made for right handed people but i dont think this logic applies to Teyvat as much since i don't recall seeing anything that would suggest this like right-handed desks so that probably wouldn't apply here
meaning that most ambidexterity in genshin would theoretically be natural or learned for non-societal reasons. i dont put it past Lohen to have learned ambidexterity for efficiency hell i had a highschool teacher who taught himself to be left handed for the hell of it but i did want to look into what circumstances lead to him defaulting to what hand
both of his idles lean towards his right hand, although his left hand is somewhat used still. in his book idle, he holds the book with his right hand while tossing bubble gum with his left. in his knife idle, he holds the knife with his right hand and the vial with his left. this idle strikes me as the one that leans the most into right-handedness with how he twists the knife in the vial. he also uses his left hand to hold vials of poison in his teaser twice, once during a flashback scene and when he's in Varka's office. another interesting tidbit is how in his teaser he also holds paper with his right hand, both while the knights are talking about him and when hes shown during his adventurer days.
both his gameplay animations and his comic show that he defaults to his right-hand for wielding his polearm, while most of his content shows him using his knives with his left. he also has a crossbow on his left arm, showing that he's confident in his aim in that arm. his gameplay animations and his comic also show he uses both hands for grabbing the enemy; in his comic he uses his left hand to hold up an opponent, most likely because his right hand is occupied by his polearm, while his ultimate has him grab the camera with his right hand to stab with a knife in his left. he also drags an opponent with his right hand while his left is holding his knife during a scene in his teaser. there is a rare instance of him holding a knife in his right hand during his teaser though, in the beginning when he's cleaning it and then when he's spinning it. later in the same teaser when he's in Varka's office, he plays with the knife with his left hand. it's not deliberately shown, but he is implied to have thrown a knife with his right hand at the beginning of his teaser, because after it lands he holds his right hand to his chest.
his comic shows him emoting with his left hand, when he checks up on a scared recruit.
a very interesting thing i noticed was during the wine scene of his teaser. he hands a mug to someone with his left hand, then he does the toast with them with the mug in his right hand. but right after the toast when we see the knights passing out, he is dumping out the poisoned wine with his left hand which means he transferred it from his right to his left to pour it out.
AAAALL of this to say, i have no idea. im not ambidextrous, im actually left-handed, but i do use my right hand for opening some containers or fiddling with stuff and the like so im not sure how much of his behavior leans left or right. he actually seems to be pretty even, with just preferences for certain activities being done with one hand more than the other. he might just straight up be ambidextrous for all we know. i just thought it was pretty interesting to study his habits
