"Quiet. How I like it. It could always be worse - 'tis not often I get a moment to myself. And truly, it has been... interesting."

❝ Well, I’m sorry, but your brother held me up. By the way, that guy from the botch deal ?? He won’t be a problem anymore. ❞
Of course, when Nicole said all this, she knew Mimi would get what she meant. They weren’t bugged, but Nicole was always the paranoid one. She was the manager for Mimi’s daytime job, yes. However, she held more responsibility then your average manager && she loved it.
Stretching her arms high, she stretched out in the stiff chair she’d been sitting in. Her heel’s had been dropped off before her, but damn if she needed them now. As she sat back a smirk played on her lips. At the next question, she offered a sure wink to her boss lady.
❝ Did the number’s, twice. S’all good. We have another big payment, but we racked in a good amount, so … Drinks tonight ?? ❞
It wasn’t a far cry, but she hoped Mimi would accept the offer. Nicole had learned the other women drank, often, but she couldn’t turn down good wine. After all, she vacationed in Italy every summer, for a week. Still … Wine.
"Aw geez. He really gets on my nerves sometimes! Well, either way, you're here now regardless of whether my DUMBASS HALF-BROTHER could make it or not."
I take a sip of my wine and hold it out to Nicole in congratulations, giving her a sideways smile as I cross my leg over the other.
"Glad you took care of it, Nikki. I can always count on you. You are the best - both best FRIEND and best... PERSON ever. Y'know, that guy could've been... a real problem, so it's good to know that he chose to do the opposite of what I asked. The power of suggestion is a really amazing thing, especially when the suggestion is implicit."
I wink at her, my wonderful manager, and place my wine glass back on the table. With a sweep of my fingers, I begin to play with the rim of the glass once again, focusing on the dark red liquid inside, gestating like churning acid, darkening my reflection.
I pout, and rest my other hand on my cheek.
"Aw, Nikki, I'd love to, but - you know, when duty calls, it calls! And I heard that the band playing at our usual spot SUCKS. I was thinking something more... y'know, on the down low? Like... something totally exciting. Weird."
I lean in, putting the palms of my hands to the table as I did so. I opened my mouth to speak again as I looked around me, observing the other customers at their drinks. None seemed particularly interested in what we were discussing, Nicole and I - and that was for the best.
"...You know what I mean, don'tcha? Not just NEON LIGHTS - but some real... ACTION. The metal kind, where the drinks aren't just served in wine glasses or pretty little shot glasses, but full-up BANGERS the size of my entire fuckin' head. THAT'S what I'm talking about."
I lean back, fold my arms, and spread my legs as I look back at Nicole with a puckered smile growing on my lips and a raise of my eyebrow.
"Well? Doesn't that sound a whole lot better than the usual Saturday night?"
&& } - @triickytales: NICOLE - MY EVER-PROMPT MANAGER!
The heel of my shoe clicks against the other as I wrap my hands around the rim of my glass, circling it with my finger. It produces a delicate whistling noise - eerie yet full. Ideal for this conversation, when the woman sitting in front of me is...
"NICOLE! Where have you BEEN? I've been waiting for HOURS to hear the latest report from you. How’re the sales? ...Doing well?"
"'Cause I'd be terribly SAD if they weren't."
THERE IS NOW A VERSES PAGE! Please give it a read if you can.
VERSE: Confidence Is My Best Asset.
Mimi Kuriyama-Kane appears, on the surface, to be a rather loud and wild blonde. She exhibits a charm that oozes out of her like a fine wine (of which, she drinks quite a bit of), and is able to talk about just about anything with anyone. But, beneath the surface, there is quite a different story, one that Mimi holds near and dear to her heart despite the... rather UNBELIEVABLE qualities to it.
Mimi believes that she is a reincarnation of the god of resurrection in Egyptian mythology, Osiris - and as such, she believes that she, as a soul, cannot die. She claims to have memories of past lives that were not necessarily her own, but her soul's. She claims to have experienced events that were experiences hundreds of years ago, in times long gone.
But Mimi is not interested in being a good girl. Not with this information in mind. With a belief in immortality comes a... boredom, one that Mimi has been unable to sate for quite some time. And indeed, Mimi considers herself a broken person deep inside; someone who cannot sympathize with others unless she has gone through something similar. Someone who cannot feel much of anything for, well... ANYTHING. She lacks thrills in her life. And, given the turbulence of her past involving a broken marriage between her mother and stepfather, a Japanese businessman, she finds herself torn between cultures as well.
Now? Well. Mimi has done something about her boredom.
Something drastic.
Being unusually intelligent despite feeling next to nothing for anyone, Mimi has become an expert at acting - and as such, is an actress by day, but organizes a rather hush-hush crime syndicate by night in Shinjuku, a district in Tokyo known for its seedy shops and questionable businesses. And with her beloved partner Nicole by her side, the ever-vigilant manager who keeps their image intact, there is nothing better than this.
Mimi is experiencing the rush of her life, now.
And nobody can stop her. Not while she draws breath. Because what does she care if she gets shot? After all...
She'll maintain all her memories in the next life.

His eye nearly twitched at being referred to as ‘static haired one’ then again, Volkner willingly listened to the other’s tale. It sounded like an old fairy tale that his parents used to tell him back during his youth, the trials and tribulations of the characters and the dreadful reality of consequences that ended up being their demise.
Stories of old had trails of truth within, however, what truth that existed remained to be seen. Humans as a whole did not always manage to grasp the truth, those that stumbled on it unwittingly had a chance to discover the truth its self. For good, or for bad. It was a strange thing, truth. However, in the end, one truth existed. However, Volkner quietly listened to the words from the other and contemplated quietly.
The subject of immortality, death, fear and defiance were connected to one another. The fear of immortality and the yearning for freedom of that cursed fate.
“I do not believe that I’m honestly the right person to be asking these questions, but I’ll give you my honest thought. The idea of being chained to an eternal life, and to watch without the chance to move onwards, I think is a horrendous act. No one should live an eternal life. I wouldn’t be able to imagine going through that, managing to keep my sanity and my beliefs in check witnessing the horrible things that happen in the world.”
Volkner knew that people were not as good as they seemed. Then again, the same thing could be said for Pokemon. Good and evil; a singular coin with two sides and different outcomes.
“Life isn’t so simple that you can always get what you, get what you yearned for and getting what you deserve. It’s a cold hard reality that things never go the way you desire, but, wouldn’t it be better to ensure that no one else has to go through what you’ve gone through? To make certain that another ‘you’ would never be created?”
He paused. “There could also be a way to be released from that curse, one that one never thought of.” Volkner slides his hands into his pockets. “Then again, what do I know?”
"You bring to the table some... intriguing ideas, human. Immortality is indeed as you say; a curse that no man should suffer. And yet, there seems to be some order in the world that bestows it to those who never wished it. Namely, those in the realms above; the creationists, for example."
I bow my head in thought, allowing his words to flow through my mind a moment - a stream of consciousness, his voice the consistency of static electricity, and yet somehow still calm enough to suggest a very... comfortable state of being. As though he had collected all of his negative emotions, perhaps, and stored them somewhere in the back of his mind.
But what did I truly know about this human? Nothing, in fact. And no contemplation was going to be worth my time or energy. All that mattered were the words he spoke, the thoughts he related to me.
All were... quite unusual for a human.
"'Tis not often I meet humans disinterested in immortality. It is good to see that there are some left on this earth that see the foolishness in wishing to live forever. Because it is as you say - the earth ROTS AROUND YOU as YOU are unable to leave it. Not because it is your duty to watch over it, but because you are bound, by some CURSE NOT OF YOUR DOING, to remain on it."
I shake my head, the feather stuck in my head fluttering in the wind as I do so. I fold my arms, and tap my fingers against the sleeve of my red jacket - tap, tap, tap... the ideas of all of this - the end, immortality, what is fair versus what is unfair - run through my mind as I continue speaking.
"And indeed, life is not kind to anybody. You may slave and toil all your life, but receive nothing in return. 'Tis entitlement that is far more disgusting than anything else in this world, and that mentality easily falls under that category. Because life is not tailored for human beings to be consistently rewarded. 'Tis not as easy as Pavlov's dogs. Nothing is going to be given to you. But fighting against the magnetic forces that seem opposed to you. Now that..."
"THAT is truly exciting, would you not agree?"
As strange as this may sound, I kind of want to make a modern verse for Himiko - where she's actually a human and not a goddess. That may be fun to do.
senjounochou:
Chieko was well-trained in the act of approaching someone else who was armed - though the elegantly-dressed, almost regal stranger did not seem hostile at first analysis. Both testing the waters, as it were; for Chieko would not draw her sword against someone who didn’t intend on broaching the attack.
However, the confident voice of the blonde rang clear, unfaltering, with her observations and - with the mention of the small army indeed being drawn together in the area, a movement few were supposed to notice - the commander threatened to show her surprise immediately. Chieko was somewhat a slave to her own bravado, and it seemed clear that her patient smile was just dying to melt into the hard-set expression of distrust like she had always been taught not to allow; the corners of rouged lips twitched beside themselves.
❝ …You’re observant. My soldiers and I have set up in the area, yes. You needn’t be too concerned, though; civilian life isn’t in any danger…though it’s clear you have the means to take care of yourself, ne? ❞
After all, their foe in this war underneath the course of history was clear-cut, a war unlike any humanity had ever fought before. Whether it was or wasn’t the strange woman’s business was surely up for debate; there would be no risk to anyone besides themselves and the past, and many were supposed to remain ignorant for the sake of protecting history.
"Worry not. I do not start fights that are unnecessary. You are no enemy of mine. And indeed, taking care of myself is second nature - 'tis all I know."
I say this as steadily as I can, watching this woman's caution only escalate the more we converse. Although, I cannot blame her. This part of the country was involved in a full-scale WAR. 'Tis only natural that she be wary of anybody that wanders through her territory. They could very well be part of the enemy side.
And war games were always so complex for these amusing human beings!
"You have done well for yourself, setting up this battalion of yours, and keeping yourself rather well-prepared, it seems. True, I know of what is happening in this region. But 'tis no concern of mine what one side does versus the other. However, I must commend one's intelligence when dealing with such matters. After all..."
I pause, and give the woman a smile. With my gloved hand, I tip my hat upwards to reveal the eyes underneath - brimming with a soulful fire, no doubt. There was no reason for me to be flippant, dismissive, or anything of the sort when she had demonstrated only kindness to me. She treated me as she would any other passersby in the region.
With respect.
And that was to be commended, to some degree. And her reward would be patience, and perhaps reciprocated kindness of my own. Whatever that meant.
"These things require strategy. Tell me - are YOU the strategist of your side of the army? If so, then I imagine you are well-prepared for anything. The enemy shall not see it coming when you or your soldiers arrive and grant them a shocking, swift end. 'Tis this I admire most, as it is not a cowardly tactic in any sense of the word."
"It only shows the POWER one holds over the other side."
