Dippеr in his home reality is such a fucking cryptid actually.
Randomly showing up wherever there happens to be things going on.
Sometimes on opposite sides of the country or in different countries within the same day.
For a year or two of his life, wherever he's seen some cops in town go missing. (he had a brief pig-hunting phase lmao)
If he's doing a lot of big magic then radios and such don't work right around him. (His energy manifests electrically as a default, so any ambient runoff is gonna be that way unless hes intentionally changing it. Put him in a faraday cage lmao) And if he's doing BIG big magic then electronics in his immediate vicinity can short or even fail.
He has a thing about being photographed/recorded without consent, especially in his sleep(one of his least favorite things mabel would do when they were still together all the time) So he has a programmed response that within a certain range, zaps whatever's trying to capture him. (usually its only stuff like phones and shit, but sometimes a security camera is hung a little too low and oopsie daisie)
He's been seen jumping from a building or a cliff and being perfectly fine later that day like nothing happened.
Despite all the crazy shit he does, not a scar on his body (the only ones being super faint ones from when he was a 15 and younger)

Hello, and welcome to the first Descolay Week! Descolay Week is an organized ship event celebrating the relationship between Professor Hershel Layton and Jean Descole. The ship has been widely popular among fans of the Professor Layton series for over a decade, and we hope that those who enjoy it will participate in any way they can!

I've been in a bit of a depression hole the past several days (running like, 100% off of fandom indulgence with little joy elsewhere)
but after date with wife? (we had a movie night :3 We were gonna watch multiple but holy fuck phm is so good we had to kinda just sit there and bask in it afterwards.)
Iuke's stress of moving away is worse in UF shelpper au btw bc not only is he moving away but his gay uncles are fighting too.

During the future Iondon thing Dip is very much in "cоke-head-sidequest" mode* and taking everything at face value because he enjoys entertaining the idea of it all. He's allowing his suspension of disbelief to run on primary, making him a devil's advocate for the whole thing.
This kinda fucking ragebaits HersheI im not gonna lie to you man.
Dippеr is normally pretty lenient with what he's willing to believe when it comes to cases, and it doesn't usually bother HersheI at all. Having different viewpoints and perspectives is a boon to figuring out such obtuse things, it covers one's own blindspots to work with people different from you.
But this one is different, because everyone is stressed for various personal reasons. And one of Dippеr's big unhealthy stress responses that he develops in adulthood (that he has to try hard to be aware of and control) is that he gets dismissive.
This developed bc of his near constant contact with life or death, time sensitive situations. When he's not in a situation like that, he developed a tendency to sort of "let things go" when it comes to stressors both internal and external. And not in the acceptance way, in the avoidance and supression way. It's because of this that it took him so long to realize his self-destructive tendencies were getting really bad when he was younger**
And because almost nothing in PLondon gets as bad as the shit he was getting into back home, his "serious situation" sensors almost never come on bc they're so shot that even after a decade they never get back to normal. Not to say he doesn't take any of it seriously, he does, but anytime he does it's entirely concious.
At first in "future Iondon" nothing really jumps out as dangerous to him. There hasn't been any alleged murders or rumors of freaky shit. Its just a city. And Iuke seems pretty calm throughout most of it, which he does tend to gauge his responses on bc one his primary goals at all times is "make sure the kids are okay" (reminds me of how cheetah kits in captivity are raised with puppies to help them stay calm bc cheetahs look to their pack to know whether to freak out or not and puppies are chill as fuck lmao.) And Iuke isn't worried or in danger, so he doesn't feel the need to be in serious mode.
He knows that if any of these lone goons around give them any actual trouble that's more physical than giving them a puzzle he could handle it. He keeps up his body, he can take a one on one with little trouble. He doesn't get why HersheI's acting like this is all such a big thing, yeah, time travel, whatever, I've done that like 3-4 times now. "I'm here, why is that so hard to believe?" Organised crime? As long as we dont go shaking things up too publicly and keep an eye on Iuke things should be fine. They're usually focused on other shit.
And the differences between "future Iuke" and the Iuke they know don't bother him much either. his 13 year old self and 23 year old self are wildly different, he'll believe it. He believes and believes and believes. The only thing in CIive's story that even makes him raise an eyebrow is the that HersheI is the big bad boss here. At first he takes it at face like everything else, filling in the blanks himself with the internal question of "what would make him do that?" but in the end its the only thing he can't fully reconcile.
The problem isn't him believing, He's always a believer. The problem is him defending. He defends CIive's story, dismisses concerns about smaller details. And he gets uh. difficult to work with for HersheI. They try to keep their debates quiet and civil so they don't bother Iuke.
But Iuke being a smart kid, he knows, even with the social masking that tries to make it seems like any other debate over the true nature of a case, they're fighting.
But Iuke being a smart kid, he also gets the adults are fighting bone nausea and the few times that it was big or long enough for Iuke to say something about instead of being a comment or a snip here and there they both immediately stop and proceed to feel bad.
Like, oughhhhh not only is he having to leave soon but his last adventure with them is being tainted by bullshit.
And that's before we get into the fIora stuff.
When Dippеr's partial relapse into his less than great than great behaviour from his 20s gets mixed with HersheI's shit with fIora, a reoccuring topic of conflict between them, man.
Dippеr genuinely does intend to bring FIora along, but they ended up getting sucked in way deeper than they thought they would really quick and thus didnt have the chance. And in the office confrontation Dipper's telling her they didn't mean to holds more water than HersheI's. (She calls Dippеr dad sometimes and HersheI's only ever called "Professor" sooo uhhh 💀)
The ditching her thing does NOT stand. And I'm not sure whether to have HersheI even suggest such a thing in this au. Previous arguments "debates" (hated it when adults said that shit when i was a kid man, youre fucking arguing. Thats why I'm making them say it bc im tormenting Iuke) after the situation in DB cause HersheI to be less shitty about her in general. So she ends up at the yard with them and everything before going back.
But regardless, when Dippеr first realizes they'd left fIora behind, he's upset about it and communicates that. HersheI, in trying to console his husband shoves his foot in his mouth and accidentally makes it out like its not a big deal that they broke a promise to their daughter.
Dippеr is usually very understanding of HersheI's tendency to misspeak or word things in a way he doesn't mean. And he still is here, but bc of HersheI's stances with fIora in the past it does make him wary, charging up for later conflict between them.
Throughout all of this, FIora is really a rock for Iuke once she joins the party. They don't fight very often at all and around other people even less, never loudly. But still, she's heard it before and helps im a good bit getting his mind off it.
*whenever he'd be in big cities like new york when he was younger, he'd frequently get wrapped up in whatever a junkie that talked to him had going on. Most of the time it was chill and he'd just end up having a nice chat with a cool person or find out about a really good resturant or something. But sometimes it'd lead him down inadvisable paths, but he'd go along with it anyway bc it was interesting and he was confident that whatever happened he could make it out fine.
**When I say younger i mean like, ~19-25
tldr: Iuke is fucking suffering rn. he's leaving his favorite people in the world(includes fIora bc let them be friends) and his last memories of them before moving is gonna be them fighting and falling apart. Because Dippеr is being an ass and HersheI is too in his own way.
And depending on how/when I want the shelpper arc to end, there's more sadness in store for the boy >:)
(maybe he's not just moving away from his closest friends, maybe just possibly... he might never see them again)
