ooc; I'm so terrible, I'm sorry everyone! Guess it's just that time of the year though, holidays and now the flu are kicking my butt and my brains been, more or less, on autopilot for a while. So I guess I'll put myself on a holiday semi-hiatus. I'll try poking around and forge some replies, but I probably won't be back in tip-top shape until after the new year.

For whatever inexplicable reason, he could not fight it, could do not a thing to get the vision of her out of his mind. It mattered not whatever labors occupied his hours, be it menial chores of cooking or cleaning the compound - or slashing open the swelled guts of otherwise gutless ronin, spreading their glistening entrails across dirt and stone.

Her face, persistent, appeared within his minds eye, like a spirit haunting him. With succulent red lips that whispered to him -words he could never quite make out- and golden eyes with long lashes, like veils to the secrets of her soul he might never uncover.

He'd always felt a certain affection for her, had he not? No, perhaps he'd not realized it as affection, but oh, how wrong had he been? 

In truth, he'd been as apathetic and borderline distrustful of her as he was about anyone else, but it was easy to mistake such feelings as the early fluttering of ardor and desirous need, was it not?

He wouldn't be sure until he had her within his reach, though. And so he made plans to find her, to have her where only he would have her, so he might ascertain the truth of this sudden, unbidden sentiment.

He'd heard something small scurrying ever-closer to him. It could have been any number of the many creatures that had at one time or another occupied the compound, but considering the food he'd just set out and-

"Souji!"

There was little chance in his mistaking that voice, and turning around just in time, he -somewhat accidentally- caught the leaping creature against him. Almost immediately he laughed, holding Niku up in the air in front of him.

"Haa~? Niku-chan! I thought maybe you finally got bored and went away." There was a hint of self-condemnation in that remark, that he might have somehow been to blame. The words themselves, however were spoken in the usual, jestful, stabbing nature he typically shared with the creature.

Really, the thought of Niku being gone had saddened him a little, but it wasn't in his nature to succumb to such notions, let alone be entirely... aware of them, within himself. "I'll give you credit, you really are a tough one, aren't you? Maybe we should see about making you a full-fledged member of the Shinsengumi." A joke, of course, but it wasn't as if stranger things hadn't happened.
