Just a heads up that I won’t be around for most of this week! The Goodest of Boys @abracaxfuckxyou​ is coming to visit me in Chicago and I’m draggin’ his little butt alllll over the city. I’ll try to pop in here and there where I can though! Otherwise, back to at least... semi-regular activity next week.

💗 Miss Heed went behind one of the wall and dressed her her normal looking outfit. She came back wearing a white off the shoulder shirt with black capris “Kenning, P.E.A.C.E. is really more of the villains of the organization” she said showing fear now her hands shaking and took in a deep breath to calm down.

It’s a surprise to hear her talking about Goldheart that way. The Goldheart. The one whose attention she’d used Flug to attain on multiple occasions. Flug was absolutely petty enough to feel a little smug vindication at that, but also it made him wonder. Just what had happened to her when she was incarcerated? What had P.E.A.C.E done to her that had finally been a step too far for Cecilia to take? What was it that had her this frightened? 

Don’t get involved, his better judgment reminded him. Don’t trust a word she says. When has that ever gone in your favor? 

He sighed, glancing off past the edge of the roof. 

“I, um... I need to leave pretty soon. Probably--now, honestly,” he said. “My um... coworkers? Are going to be looking for me, and I need to get home. But, uh...”

Just wish her well and leave. Don’t get involved. Don’t try to help her. She wanted to run off and play hero, this is what she got. She made her bed, let her lie in it. Why should you care if P.E.A.C.E wants to use her? She never hesitated in using you.

“... Can I... meet you later tonight? I should--be able to get away from the lab for a few hours. If there’s somewhere, uh... you think you won’t be recognized, that would be best. We can talk there.”

Flug reached up to adjust the dial on the side of his goggles, brow furrowed beneath his bag as he studied the artifact. One particular sigil on the cube caught his attention, and his curiosity turned to delight--and then a tiny flicker of panic as he very, very carefully set the cube down on the counter.

“... So! It turns out it was a very happy accident that you brought this to our shop!” 

He gestured down at the sigil in question that had caught his attention. It was badly worn from time and the elements, but upon further study, it bore a very unique shape. An archaic version of the one that was on the sign outside.

“He, ah, doesn’t really have a name per se? At least not one that us mere mortals can pronounce! But we in the know refer to him as Lord Black Hat. He’s my patron, you know! I’m one of the only warlocks in his service.” 

“... Mostly because he killed all the other ones! But! This relic probably dates back long before our time. In fact, this was likely crafted by his own hands! It’s a very rare find.”

“Maybe! Maybe there is still time for me to invent a time machine and go back to before the results were finalized! Maybe I can create a few thousand sock puppet accounts on Twitter to stack the vote in Mr. Black Hat’s favor! There’s options! I-I have options! 5.0.5. won’t grow up without a father! Ahaha--i-it’s fine! I’m fine!”

She joined, but it came at a price she wants to forget, but the amount of mental torture caused by P.E.A.C.E. made her what she became. But can’t tell anyone who’ not a hero for she’ll be at risk.

💗 “Kenning, you were the only one who was close to me and saw things in me, but I was blinded by it. I’m not a good person”

“Neither of us are good people, Cecilia,” Flug snapped. “I’m just not wearing the uniform of someone who’s pretending to be.” The remark was cold, but he couldn’t muster up much bite behind it. He glanced up, with some hesitance, taking in the sight of her properly. Her and that outfit. Beneath the bag, his jaw clenched.

It wasn’t--just that. She was afraid of something. Afraid of something other than him walking away from her again. What did she mean, If she knew then what she did now?  

“Why... did you go back to them anyway?” he asked. “If it was so awful. Did P.E.A.C.E arrange for your release? I thought you were sort of a... PR nightmare for them after the whole...”

“... Incident.” The one where she was caught kissing him on a live broadcast? Yes. That one. “I wouldn’t, um... have thought they’d have you back in that uniform.”

While Flug was limited in how much he could actually get done at the Expo, there were at least steps to be taken in the direction of a proper sale. He’d come with a few forms just for this sort of request, in fact, meticulously done up with all the preliminary information they’d need before he could even begin putting together specs. 

“We’re usually a bit backed up with orders once I get back from Expo week,” he admitted, as he jotted down a few things on the clipboard. “But it shouldn’t take me more than a week to get back to you with a quote and preliminary design details.” Which, given the number of portal guns, ray guns, and gravity guns he would need to manufacture based on the sales they’d made this week alone, was still absurdly quick. Lord Black Hat was insistent on all expo orders being filled within a week, after all. Even if it meant a week of all-nighters. Especially if it meant a week of all-nighters. Flug was convinced his boss deliberately ran him even harder into the dirt after Expo week, if only to make up for seven whole reasonably stress-free days. 

It was fine, Flug told himself, just like he told himself every morning in the bathroom mirror, repeatedly, like a desperate, broken mantra, tears brimming behind the lenses of his goggles. Besides! The Mad Science Expo was basically the closest Flug had to a vacation. 

“Now, as I said, the design would be personalized to your specific power set. Could you elaborate a bit on those for me?”
