fandom etiquette as a whole died when people who didn’t grow up on fandoms became stans during lockdown, yes, but why am i seeing people openly mocking fics on twitter. why am i seeing screenshots of fics with captions like “bro what is this 😭.” why am i seeing people mock fic writers for not knowing how sports or theater or college or any other organization operates in the real world.

“college is absolutely nothing like this” “why are we writing four people on the team scoring a hat trick in one game” “so tech work is nothing like this, hope that helps!”

if you don’t like a fic, and if you can’t suspend your belief enough to enjoy a fic that exaggerates or ignores real-world orgs, you don’t have to read it. you don’t have to screenshot it and put it on blast for twitter. you don’t have to post a link to it in the replies. the back button is literally there on your phone. it’s not giving baby’s first fandom anymore, it’s giving entitled asshole and it isn’t as cute as you think it is.

Armand was literally written as an antagonist in TVL, that seems to go over many supposed fan's heads. These are definitely the same ones that were complaining about Armand being defanged but since it's not against Lestat, apparently Armand's special brand of batshit fucking insane is inexcusable.

I'm saying this as someone that hasn't seen the finale yet but have a good understanding of Armand's character and has hated him since the 94 movie but adore Assad's portrayal and are really fascinated (heh) by his character. Really wouldn't put it past Louis to assess the situation and placate Armand to protect himself and others.

It's funny to me so many people are taking his apology as the writers favouring Armand and punching Louis. Like, they show just how crazy Armand is and how ridiculous his excuses are. Does it matter who he gets his craziness on? I'm just happy he stopped being a cowering deer, I don't care which character got the crazy.

There is something truly toxic about how academic language is being weaponized in fan spaces. Historical, literary, and theoretical references used not to critique a text or lead to greater understanding of it, but instead to bludgeon anyone who disagrees or disappoints. It bothers me because these posts often look and feel persuasive at first, but don’t hold up to any scrutiny. They are also really long, which again, looks like deep analysis, but in the end, feels more like gish galloping disguised as critique/analysis.

I would love to see more meta in fandom, and it bothers me that academic discourse is being used for clout and influence rather than as an invitation to discuss.
