Just a heads up for anyone watching the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

If you haven’t already, read Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir.

The show won’t show how Maul escaped from Sidious after Season 5 because there was supposed to be a story arc between then and the Siege of Mandalore that showed Maul escaping and waging war against Sidious. Lucky for us, that arc was adapted into the Son of Dathomir comic. It also features more about Mother Talzin and why she was interested in Maul in the first place.

They could maybe reference the events of the comic in dialogue or the opening narration, but it’s not guaranteed, so if you want to fully understand where Maul is at and how he got from being electrocuted by Sidious to being back ruling Mandalore, I strongly suggest reading this comic.

Sam Witwer is SO fucking underrated as an actor like his narration in the Clone Wars trailer is so fucking CHILLING. The whole trailer just plays out like a ticking time bomb leading up to Order 66 with Maul as this creepy dark prophet talking about it like an apocalyptic doomsday event that’s going to destroy everything. The trailers for the animated shows have always been great at creating an appropriate atmosphere but God DAMN Sam’s delivery just adds so much to it, like it really feels like an era is ending and another beginning, which is exactly what’s happening. We stan TALENT.

I also love Sam’s delivery of all the lines, it’s so nuanced. 

The first thing I noticed about Maul’s narration in the trailer is how… lacking in malice it is. He almost sounds like he’s more in solemn awe of the great and terrible change coming to the galaxy rather than gloating about it to Ahsoka/whoever he’s talking to in a villain monologue way. The way his face looks when he’s speaking about it, too… It’s just so different and interesting
