“The breezes at dawn have secrets to tell you Don't go back to sleep! You must ask for what you really want. Don't go back to sleep! People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds touch, The door is round and open Don't go back to sleep!” On July 25, I attended a Healing Sound Circle at the Replogle Center for Well-being and Counseling at 4th Presbyterian Church on Michigan Ave. It had been many years since I had been to 4th Pres. I was happy to find the beautiful counseling center behind the church and to see the Labyrinth chapel the church had constructed there. My long-time chant friend @Mary Huddleston played the bowls and sang beautifully while we walked, each for our own cause. I was surprised to hear Mary sing this song: “The breezes at dawn have secrets to tell you Don't go back to sleep! You must ask for what you really want. Don't go back to sleep! People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds touch, The door is round and open Don't go back to sleep!” Just two days before Peter left us, I had taken in for framing a lithograph I had found in Yosemite National Park 11 years previously. These words - "The Breeze at Dawn" were etched against an orange sunrise. It was to hang above my bed in the renewed space at @theoldhomestead that was to be my combination bed and meditation rooms. Those rooms are now the suite occupied by Sam, Peter's cat, who I adopted when the unthinkable happened, when Peter's physical body left me, his family, his friends all of us, curled up in shock. Mary's song was a reminder to me, "Don't go back to sleep! Don't." http://www.fourthchurch.org/rc/events.html#healingsound (at Fourth Presbyterian Church)
Last week, I met Harmon, a friend of Peter's from @bookleggers for coffee at a place called @kibbetznest in Lincoln Park. It was a beautiful place full of light and books and even vinyl — oh no, not vinyl the quality of Peter's, but vinyl — and the books were OK, not like Peter's, but passable. It looked just like Peter's PopWunderbar but five times bigger. In fact, a poster identical to Peter's "What Would Neil Young Do?" was hanging in the hallway. It was most certainly a tribal gathering place for our ilk with its full bar and coffee offerings. Even the name — Kibbetznest. The month before Peter died, he and I had been discussing the fact that a good friend of ours was getting increasingly upset by Peter's commenting about certain rock bands — Peter’s conversation was at times felt to be provocative by this friend. But I knew that Peter didn't mean it this way. When we were discussing this, I pulled the word, kibitz, out of some long forgotten memory bank. "Kibitz- exactly!" Peter said. "It’s a New York thing. Why doesn't he understand that I'm just trying to have an interesting conversation?" Definition of kibitz : : to talk to someone in a friendly and informal way : to watch other people and make unwanted comments about what they are doing Peter would have enjoyed the place but he would certainly have kibitzed ant the records and books there. I could be in Marin or in Nassau or in Michigan but I’m not. I’m in Chucago 15 minutes from where I grew up and Peter would love it here tonight. Trying to enjoy for him. (at The Waterfront Cafe)
Peter’s bestie George and I went to check out the CRATE vinyl event and then headed back to my house to research and grade some of Peter’s vinyll. Question? How do you grade “sealed?” #mypeter #popeofpop (at Temperance Beer Co.)
