Can we get some casual agere appreciation?

Like, no this character isn't using a pacifier or gripping onto a plushie or padded or wearing childing clothing, but they are hiding behind their most trusted person in the friend group, either a parental figure or close friend, when things feel too big and new.

They aren't crying out for mommy or daddy, or throwing a tantrum, but they're sobbing to themselves in the middle of the night, clutching their pillow like a person, because everything feels too big and too much

They aren't burying themselves in pacifiers, teethers, or plushies, but they're chewing on their shirt or hand when they get anxious and hugging their pillow to their chest like a lifeline

a custom wheelchair's width should leave little to no gap between your thighs and the edge of your seat without actual reason. thighs rubbing on wheels can be mitigated with side guards. unless you are anticipating growth (e.g you are 13) or substantial weight gain (e.g you just got a feeding tube after 3 years of malnutrition) then your ATP should not be adding width on top of the natural width of your hips and thighs.

"weight gain from using a wheelchair" is largely a myth but when it happens it is rarely extreme and does not warrant extra width unless you are on the edge between widths.

I see so many custom wheelchairs with 2, 3 inches of extra room on each side and it pushes these people's shoulders out at awkward angles. wider is worse for your shoulders unless your body already matches that width. wider also creates more access barriers when it comes to width of paths, doors, etc. extra width is bad for your body and your ability to access the world.

my wheelchair (not custom i borrowed from someone) is way too big for me and it makes it really hard to push so if you have the option make sure it fits you

Of all of the issues with claiming a non service animal is a service animal, one I've been reminded of recently is the allergen risk.

I have a pretty bad animal dander allergy. If an animal brushes against my leg and I touch that part of my clothing and then my face, my face and airways will swell and I'll start audibly wheezing. If I touch my eyes they swell to the point I can't see.

Several times in the last few months I've had "service animals" jump on me/my wheelchair, press against me, or try to get me to pet them. Its happened in places only service animals are allowed. Every time this has happened the animal has been near the full range of its leash and looking away from its owner (who is talking to someone else and doesn't notice their animal is getting all over me).

When this happens I need to keep track of where the animal touched me, take a Benadryl if there's any risk it's gotten near my face/airways, and immediately wash that clothing when I get home so I don't experience anaphylaxis. If I can't do laundry then that clothing is quarantined for weeks on end, until I can eventually wash it.

Service animals do not act this way. Even in training the handler is aware enough of them to keep them close and off of other people. A service animal that is not focused on or even near its owner is failing at its job and not ready to work, never mind in sensitive places like doctors offices. The handlers I know irl have had better behaved months old puppies when it comes to this, unlike the adult dogs who've tried to get their paws in my lap.

These have not been situations where the animal is trying to get my attention to help its handler. These have been situations where the owner has been acting like a typical pet owner in places where only service animals are allowed. They are making the active choice to endanger me and other people with animal dander allergies, including people who have more severe allergies than me.

I enjoy that Lila is the one telling the story in "Daddy Dropoff". I take an implication from it that she's eventually told all the details later at some point years down the line. Very cute.

I told my dad about my regression!

I’ve been wanting to tell my parents about agere for a long time because they’re generally very supportive of me and it sucks having to hide it from them but it’s still really hard for me to talk about my regression irl because I get embarrassed so I hadn’t told them.

Today I was watching bluey and eating a snack before school and my dad came in and jokingly said “are you like regressing?” and he had no idea how right he was. I mustered up the courage to tell him later in the day and he was totally cool with it and already knew a bit about agere because he minored in psychology in college! yippie!
