Here’s a collection of tips I’ve learned and use for coloring darker skin tones. I hope this helps people out who want to diversify their art!
Note; I’m not an expert, and I’m mostly drawing from experiences and my cultural background.
I haven’t posted in awhile, so why not come back in a cloud of glitter? This piece took me about 20 hours to complete. It’s based off a dream I had a few weeks ago where I was wandering this place, following the sound of someone playing the violin. I remember feeling so light as I jumped from one platform to the next. My street-clothes transformed into this beautiful, flowing—yet revealing—gown. Just before I woke up, my dream took me to the streets of Vancouver. I was walking along the sidewalk somewhere downtown, and could still hear the violin from the sewer grates. I never did figure out who was playing that song.
Finished my entry for Draw With Jazza’s Challenge of the Month!!
This was my first time trying the Challenge of the Month, so I hope I did everything alright! And, yes, it's "Color of Loss" and not "Color o' Floss" but here's to hoping that's next month's challenge.
My goal with the colours was to convey the message of the piece in the pallet alone. I de-saturated everything and washed it in blue to represent sadness and loss, but if you removed that you would find the warm pallet filled with those beautiful reds and purples that represent love. I did the same thing with the light sources. The ghost emits a blue light - again, meaning sadness - and their hearts are emitting red lights - love. I thought the intermingling of the lights to be really poetic, and I kept it because it made the piece more dynamic and gave it that spark of originality I always hope to achieve. (Also, if you look closely, you can see the man's heart breaking.)
