I never got the chance to shade this, but I’m proud of the lineart. This is also my firsttime drawing Huatli and Saheeli, so idk if all the details are correct.

Dovin Baan arrives on Ravnica, looks at the guild system and has a panic attack in 6 seconds flat

Fellow Vorthoses (Vorthi?), what are your thoughts on Dovin Baan apparently willingly doing to Ravnica what Tezzeret did to Ghirapur? I have faith the story will give him a plausible reason, but it does seem a bit…out of character? Unless of course, like the other agents Bolas has deployed on Ravnica, he does not have the full story.

Also, now that I think on it, he does know that Jace Beleren has been a shaky authority on Ravnica at best, so I guess that could be motivation enough…

According to the art book, Dovin has two primary motivations

He wants to perfect Ravnica, and he became so impressed with Bolas after meeting him that he’s now a very loyal sycophant for the dragon.

You know what planeswalker I want to see again? Dovin Baan

As much as I love Saheeli, I think Dovin had a much more interesting story in Kaladesh. To me, he felt like a good person who put his trust in with the wrong people/institutions. His whole arc is about keeping the people of Kaladesh safe, from recruiting the Gatewatch to arresting Baral for murder.

I want to see Dovin return to Kaladesh after the rebels beat the consulate and took over and see how much better off the plane is. Regretting his actions, he’d pursue Tezzeret in an attempt to redeem himself to the people of Kaladesh. He’d see how he had been used by Tezzeret, learning about Bolas and his evil plans in the process, and realize he had way more to atone for than he previously thought.

I want to see Baan return to the Gatewatch’s sanctum on Ravnica, where he meekly apologizes (and everyone can see how unused to being wrong Dovin is and how awkward this is for him). He’d offer to help in the fight against Bolas, going after Tezzeret and the planar bridge, since he personally helped ensure Bolas got that device. Right as he finishes offering his help (which is quickly accepted because the Gatewatch needs all the allies they can get in the coming fight) Bolas’s invasion starts, probably with a comedic quip from Chandra about timing.

He’d go after Tezzeret, but would find him too late to stop the invasion. They’d have an intense battle concluding in Baan disabling the bridge to keep more reinforcements from arriving, but at a great cost to him (I figure he’d survive, but be badly wounded. Losing his right arm to Tezzeret would make for an interesting comparison between them, establishing them as WU/WB foils of each other)

After the battle for Ravnica concludes (presumably the Gatewatch is going to win this fight), Baan would return home to Kaladesh, declining to join the Gatewatch but offering himself as an ally if they ever need his help. He would return and approach the renegade government, applying for a low level position. Pia, having heard about everything Dovin did on Ravnica courtesy of Chandra, would grant him full immunity for his past actions and offer him a higher position, the latter of which he’d decline. Dovin would want to work his way back up anew, not wanting to draw upon any status he may have had from the old regime. However, he would soon receive an anonymous gift on his doorstep. Inside, a new filigree arm, which he of course immediately starts to improve upon.

Finally done with these~   took about 3 days? got a cold so took bit longer than it should’ve hhh I am okay with how they turned out tho!  ( disclaimer: im a terrible vorthos so these are very basic)
