The only other mobage game I play is Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls. It’s set up basically the same way that SideM is, so you might like it. The biggest difference is that obviously its cast is all female. Other than that, the only major differences:
Puchiderella: you can collect and dress up cute puchi versions of the characters and they give you stat bonuses in events. But SideM is supposed to be getting “SideMini” hopefully sometime soon (I don’t know if they ever gave an estimated date?), which is probably going to be very similar.
Instead of in-game manga, it has short 4-koma about various characters. It updates pretty frequently. They’re usually related to new events and gashas. They don’t have furigana included, though, so they’re harder for beginners of Japanese to understand.
There are a lot more things you can’t do if you’re not verified: you can’t take part in platinum scout campaigns (whereas in SideM you can) and other campaigns, you can’t use the in-game trade feature, and the only free scouting/gashas you can do are the free daily scout and platinum/SR ticket scouts.
The events function differently, but they’re pretty easy to understand.
Personally I think SideM has a better “story mode” than CG, but CG has some side stories and stuff, so it’s not like you don’t get anything.
Besides Cinderella Girls, the only game I’ve seen people play and enjoy is Granblue Fantasy, but I don’t play it so I don’t know anything about it.

SideM doesn’t have an in-game trade feature yet, so the way people trade cards is to find a partner over social media or the official circle on mobage and then give them the card of their choice as a “gift.” You have to verify your account with a Japanese phone number before you can give gifts to other players, though! You also must add the person you want to trade with as a co-worker/friend, and you must be co-workers for a minimum of 14 days.
The biggest trading account on twitter is side_trade, but it’s Japanese-only. You just mention the account in a tweet and hope that people will see it and respond to you. I mostly see people using it to trade event/gasha SRs, so I’m not sure how many people will be interested in trading Rs. I know for a time there was an English one, but I don’t know if it’s still up and how many people use it. (I also don’t remember what it was called, so if it’s still up and anyone remembers, feel free to mention what it is!)
If enough people are interested, we can always start using the English account again or make one here on tumblr, but I also don’t know how many people here have their accounts verified….
(Since I’ve been asked this before, I’ll just mention here that I’m not verified, so unfortunately I can’t trade with anyone.)
Yeah, I just tested it and they do give a little more exp than N cards at least (obviously R and above will give more though), especially if they’re leveled up a little. You might as well just use them as food for R and SR cards since they’re kind of useless. Though I suggest at least maxing out their reliability first since that’ll give you memory points to use on magazines/manga (I’m pretty sure you can only get the memory points once, though; the next time you max out that card, you won’t get anything). You’ll get memory points and more exp for maxing out their levels, too, but that also requires a lot of money and cards, so if you’re tight on those things, it might not be worth it.
Or you can just “transfer” them (i.e. sell them) and get some money.
