What can we learn from ants and plants?
That’s what IBMer Mauro Martino set out to answer in his award-winning data visualization, Network Earth. It explores nature’s interconnected relationships, and how they affect each other and our planet. By making the complex but important topics easier to visualize, we hope to help make more of them accessible to all.
A Really Fucking Vulgar Guide to Not Losing Your Shit in College (Condensed Version)
Bitches love to put things into lists. Moreover, bitches love numbered shit. Here’s some numbered shit in list format to help you not suck in higher education. You’re welcome.
1. Go to class. Like 210% serious. I don’t give a shit if you’re a get by on nothing, A+ slacker. You’re fucking paying for this crap so you might as well get the services owed to you. Take your ass to class even if you zone out 99% of the time. You know 1% more than you did when you walked up in there. Congrats, asshole.
2. All that free time you have during your first week of classes? Make it your bitch. Don’t just print the goddamn syllabus and be like all done. No motherfucker. Take a good fucking look at that assignment list. What’s due next week? Yeah, do that shit now bc I know you don’t have anything else to do. Then when you’re coughing up a lung six weeks into the semester and don’t feel like getting your ass up to do that calculus homework, you’ll remember this week. You’ll remember that you’ve been a week ahead this whole damn semester. Pat yourself on the back, ass wipe.
3. Prepare yo self. No seriously. You got notes to print for class? Sure you could be like all those other bitches and just shove them into your backpack, or you could actually /prepare/ for class. I’m talking looking that shit over, identifying key concepts, getting a decent grasp of the material before your ass is even in class. You a STEM major? Yeah, make this kinda shit your life because now class is like one bomb ass group review session. Again, you’re welcome.
4. Snack like a motherfucker, but save that junk food shit for the weekends. From now on, you are a fucking health guru during the week or if you’re a slacker like me, at least on the days you have class. Fruits? Hell yeah. Pack some of those. Mind wandering in class? Snack on some apple slices. Can’t stay awake? Keep eating some almonds or some shit, but don’t be that bitch with the potato chips. Just don’t.
5. Read. Yeah, you heard me. Read and I’m not just talking assigned reading. I bet my left butt cheek that your campus library has /something/ of interest to you. Commuting and don’t want to drive out there? Library databases bro. We’re in the digital age, motherfucker. I’d bet my other butt cheek that the shit you want is in a nice little PDF somewhere. But na man, you thinking maybe you want to go into computer science? Check out computer science books and eat them up bro. You don’t like reading them? Probably not the field for you. You a biology major in your second year? Yeah dumbass. Time to break out the bio books and not the ones your professor is shoving in your face. Amaze your friends and teachers with your out of class knowledge. Be a fucking star.

Surreal Art by Erika Lizee
Erika Lizee is a versatile artist from Chicago, Illinois. She earned her BFA in Painting from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, and her MFA in Painting from California State University, Northridge
Through my artwork I seek to express the conflicting feelings of wonder and uncertainty that I experience when contemplating the fluid and impermanent nature of reality.
Conceptually, my inquiry spans from the morphing of human understanding from what is unknown to known, to the creative process of manifesting our thoughts from the intangible to the tangible, to the existential questions of our relationship to both the invisible and visible realms.
In my installations, I utilizing illusionistic painting where surfaces of the gallery walls become real and metaphorical dividing lines between the realms of things that do not physically exist, and those that do.
Mysterious and abstract elements appear beyond the surface of the wall, while others emerge from this space into the physical realm of the viewer.

College is literally the best/worst time of your life. One minute you’re living it up with your friends, the next you have $3.00 and 4 exams.
hey guys!! it has been a while :’))
however, i have finished my first semester of chemistry (pre-ib) and i felt as if that i did pretty well in this subject even though i had minimal background knowledge on it. i initially struggled with the concepts we did, but after studying hard and trying my best i have gotten used to it and have been improving so here are my tips and tricks for chemistry!
please understand that i have not been through all the topics in chemistry, i have only learnt about atomic structure, periodicity and bonding so my links and tips may only help you for those topics but they should help with the other topics also. (this is most likely a general chemistry masterpost btw)
important study tips:
ask questions in class!!!!!! this is incredibly important, as also for every subject but if you don’t understand the concept you will struggle like how i did in the beginning :( if you are too shy to ask your question in front of the class, go up to the teacher when you have some time or even email them. even just ask your friends or classmates who may have a better understanding of the concept, it definitely helps having different explanations on the same topic, having different perspectives and all
find good resources, go through past tests, past exams and worksheets so that you can have good practice of what may come in your tests and exams. my teacher was very organised and had plenty of resources for me to use to revise and learn in my spare time out of class. it also gave me the experience of the ib tests and exams so i knew what was to come
as said in my maths masterpost, try teaching others when they need help (if you understand the topic and they don’t) because this really seems to help me when studying for tests, i helped my friend with her questions about atomic structure and found myself learning and revising at the same time because of this
repetition!!! you may not get it right the first time, or even the second, but after lots of tries and times you will get there!! trust me :’))
if you don’t have resources, go search for some. there are plenty of studyblrs who do chem as a subject and im sure they are more than happy to help you (me too but i haven’t through many of the topics lol) once you have been through all the past papers you own, go google for some, especially ib kids, theres some out there for you!
have a periodic table with you at all times when studying chem! its a bit obvious but you would most likely need it
apps + websites:
periodic table apps (there is loads on the app stores but here are some i found)
periodic table [ android | ios ] very indepth and informative (glad i just found this one, im downloading it rn)
periodic table (this one is different) [ android | ios ]
there is plenty, so find the app which suits you and your learning needs
molview (this website allows you to draw molecules!!)
ibchem.com for my fellow ib chem students, this website has notes and other resources to help you with your studies
2016 ib data booklet (there is probably going to be a 2017 one soon but anyways this will be useful
khan academy chemistry (honestly this website is a blessing to all students, so helpful !!!!)

Breathtaking GIFs of Blooming Flowers
These stunning blooming flower GIFs were conceived from a time-lapse video captured by Japanese artist Yutaka Kitamura. Originally a video piece from a performance art collaboration with Alexander Reeder, different flower species’ birth were sliced from the video to compose individual GIFs, which showcase the profound and grace of flowers. By immortalizing the fleeting moment, Kitamura highlights the transient beauty and impermanent quality found in nature. The results are daunting and simultaneously breathtaking.
